  1. Oh right, he's on the Mosaic Select. Forgot about that discographical detail...
  2. Is this the Teddy Robinson who played drums with Byron Allen?
  3. Planning to play something from this on Sunday's "Cutting Edge" episode, featuring newer pianists' work.
  4. Nate Wooley/Christian Weber/Paul Lytton - Six Feet Under - (No Business)
  5. Man, I love me some 70s Elliott Gould, but "Busting" wasn't all that great. I did like the supermarket shootout but even that could have been better. Oh well. They can't all be "The Silent Partner."

  6. Tex Ritter reference?
  7. Nice find. Wouldn't mind hearing this one as well.
  8. Wonder what these insane-looking privately pressed Babs Gonzales LPs will go for (Fred's got a few on auction)? Also I've never, ever seen the J.C. Heard on Argo. Sick!
  9. Yeah, that was - strangely - one of the first 20 or so jazz LPs I bought, and got it pretty damn cheap (NM- as well).
  10. Ha! Well, Seldon Powell is apparently on it, too, though he didn't get front-cover billing.
  11. I'm jealous! Just got a trio disc on Emanem with Veryan Weston, Hannah Marshall & Laubrock. Really looking forward to digging into it. Glad to hear this new Kris Davis album is worth the ducats.
  12. On the air in a few covering for Commercial Suicide - KOOP 91.7 FM. Tune in if you can.

  13. Too much brunch. Just call me "Firestone" from now on.

  14. Yep. This is the LP in its US forms (the Elektra is the original):
  15. Sounds up my alley...
  16. Leo Wright - Flote und Alto-Sax - (Amiga) with Candy Green and the guitarist Andre Condouant, who's quite a revelation. Have had this LP for a few years but never "really" listened to it until now.
  17. An old favorite: Archie Shepp - Yasmina, a Black Woman - (BYG Actuel) Side two is what gets me going these days, though there was a time when I couldn't get enough of the title composition. I still think it's one of the better-organized (rehearsed) BYG large group sessions. But the track with Mobley and the version of "Body and Soul" are great.
  18. I somehow never could get into the Beastie Boys, but it's hard to deny their importance in a certain sector of music. RIP MCA.
  19. What am I doing? Just looking at the online finding aid for the Horace Tapscott Jazz Collection, like any modern gentleman would do.

  20. Oh the OAC. They've done great things. I think Chuck mentioned on another thread that Sackville returned the tapes to Mitchell because they had a print-through problem or something like that. Aha. Yeah, the AECO/Tizona reissue is what I was thinking of.
  21. Not too common - only seen it a few times and each one has been trashed (for obvious reasons). Nice find!
  22. Hm. Yeah, that Mtume LP is almost always hammered when I see it. Hence, it's never entered my collection. I've heard it and it's a really neat record. Who's handling the AECO label catalog now? I saw they reissued one of Roscoe's Sackville albums, which seemed odd but I suppose he owns the material. Not sure how Sackville handled that kind of thing.
  23. Some cool stuff on that LP set. Not too common, I'd say probably a "great find."
  24. And on that, yes, he plays the same regardless of context. It's a 'signature sound' I find not that purposeful. And it doesn't seem to have that many imitators, for some reason, so I might not be the only one to see it this way. Whose purpose should he have been serving? Yours or his?
