  1. Yeah, not an easy hike for me, either, but I wish you luck on the gigs. Sounds up my alley.
  2. Bonzo Dog Band - Keynsham - (Imperial)
  3. A quick hit on Popsike for some of that Tiger Lily catalog, and the stuff gets pretty expensive nowadays...
  4. up - anyone? I think I paid $15 for a 1st stereo Liberty, but that was a few years ago. Not a bad date.
  5. Mal Waldron - The Quest - (NJ mono/Prestige blue label)
  6. I enjoy hearing the alternates but don't obsess over them; if I was a musician or a musicologist analyzing the solos of Player X across versions of "Stardust" they naturally might have a little more bearing. I'll admit to having a hard time with the inclusion of false starts or truncated cuts on discs and those being counted as "alternates."
  7. Cool story. Unless they mix it up with some unique bands, however, I can see something like this being just fine in a three or five disc set.
  8. Frank Rosolino - Quintet - (Mode jacket, Premier wax)
  9. Happy birthday, Chuck, and thanks for doing all that you do.
  10. I enjoy Ballads for Bass Clarinet. Also his work with Dave Burrell, in general, has been pretty satisfying.
  11. I had a few of their early things on Hat LPs and didn't "get it" at the time. Maybe a revisit is in order.
  12. The Dead - Terrapin Station - (Arista)
  13. Ironically, I have the most difficulty listening closely while at home. Housemate, pets, tasks - unless I can put the stoney-phones on and lock the door (which is how reviews get done). At work I have the iPod but find headphones and fluorescent bulbs taxing.
  14. I listened to him just the other day. The Strata-East hasn't been pulled out in a while, though. Nice date.
  15. Ware has done some really enjoyable, excellent stuff and some really annoying, boring stuff. The quartet got really tiring toward the end of its life, with some corny and almost "poppy" approach to rhythm, I thought, but the new solo disc is awesome. His playing with Cyrille, Hooker, and Beaver Harris is/was fantastic, though I saw him in a duo with Rashied Ali that made me really depressed for the state of the music (ca. 2000/2001). Wasn't even listening in the slightest to what Ali was doing.
  16. So chewy, what do you think of it?
  17. I think you're reading too much into some of the comments in this thread. If you're feeling guilt, then you've got other issues to deal with. Thanks for clearing that up.
  18. Jeez, it's funny - I like some of Murray's work and all of a sudden I'm an apologist for his entire body of recordings / persona.
  19. Olu's kid is a rapper, and Dennis' kids are punk/metal musicians (as well as improvisers). In my book that also makes Dara and Gonzalez wonderful.
  20. Dang, very sorry to hear this news. RIP.
