  1. I like all those early Garbarek ECMs quite a bit, as well as the Esoteric Circle LP on Flying Dutchman. Wouldn't have pegged "Chicago" so much, but either way, they are interesting and quite heavy.
  2. Hey Pierre, I'll see what I can dig up on this side of the pond as well. University of Texas jazz periodicals in back issues, etc.
  3. Yeah, for decent to good seats it's up to $200 in Austin. Unbelievable.
  4. Anthony Braxton's Ghost Trance Music.
  5. I have it on CD. That's fine - not my first go-to of the 50s Mobley BNs.
  6. I can deal with mono UA pressings okay, prefer a good King or recent-ish CD (not being able to plunk down on a w. 63rd).
  7. Another tautology
  8. I actually can't comprehend that trio working, but maybe I think of Evan differently than Evan thinks of Evan.
  9. The Golden Age of Gospel Singing - (Folklyric) I didn't have any gospel, and this seemed like a good place to start.
  10. If you do vinyl, they're fairly cheap and easy to come by. Pity that IN's catalog is woefully under-represented in the digital realm.
  11. Got this in my to-listen pile as well!
  12. Wow, thanks for the heads' up.
  13. I don't know First Avenue but it does have that American Clave feel to it.
  14. I particularly like that one. Living happily with a non-mono edition of it. (Fred Cohen's prices be damned!)
  15. Probably the least 'talked-about' of the Mustevics but shit, it's verging on retarded. I wholly agree with your analysis. Reid & Boykins definitely made those Tyler LPs what they were. Surf Ravin' indeed...
  16. I don't agree with Iverson that a Waldron record is entirely 'made' by the presence of Blackwell vs. somebody like Pierre Courbois or Fred Braceful. Sure, Workman and Blackwell are amazing, but I don't think any of those European or Japanese trio records "suffer" because of different/more obscure personnel.
  17. I have gone through periods of really not liking Hill's music, but like I've said elsewhere, it still feels like there's something there that I'm not getting and consequently find hard to put into words. Otherwise, why would I keep buying his releases?
  18. I like that LP. Bob Degen is from Pennsylvania, and I think a fine player.
  19. Certainly one of the finest of the 70s trio dates. I also like Number Nineteen.
  20. I'm going to have to think about this some more and get back to you.
  21. RT, those are wonderfully sacrilegious.
