  1. Used to have that on LP; should get that one back.
  2. AK, The one with Berger is a cooperative group with John McLaughlin, and it's called Where Fortune Smiles. It should be included, at least in part, on the Dawn Sessions CD. How Many Clouds is an amazing record; the first half is mostly large ensemble, and the song "Galata Bridge" has to be heard to be believed. I don't have Algonquin, but I'd like to. It was reissued on CD a few years back, and I know the first two are OOP so you'd better be quick! Enjoy, CT
  3. John, Run - don't walk - and pick up "High Won, High Two" (Black Lion) and "After Love" (Verve-America). You will be a convert if you're not already. CT
  4. Yes, it was on the now OOP (AFIK) Columbia Realm reissue series. Probably still findable on Gemm, etc. ... great record!
  5. Um, my tongue was fully in cheek...
  6. Uhhh... have you ever tried listening to "Guitar Forms" and "Echo" at the same time?
  7. Don't think so... I think Jazz Kat didn't read which Burrell we were talking about (though apparently they are cousins).
  8. Shit, I can't understand anyone not loving that record to pieces in the first place.
  9. I don't understand what the deal is with fidelity complaints on that record - it's one of the better-sounding radio tapes I've ever heard, for sure, and the music is probably the best Rudd and Tchicai recorded together.
  10. Thanks - I'm glad you guys liked it! The interview originally appeared in Paris Transatlantic magazine (paristransatlantic.com). I think there are a few chunks missing from this transcription, though. B-) CT/CA
  11. Yes, as far as I know, "Maren" is Barbara Donald and "Rachel" is Becky Friend.
  12. I think that the LP sounds good, though a bit muddy - still, it's a bootlegged radio tape source, so far above par when you think about it. CD can't be any worse, right? Funny, Universal reissuing a bootleg concert LP. Great record, though!
  13. Elvin Jones and Richard Davis "Heavy Sounds" (Impulse!)
  14. Amen to that; ditto wrt Waldron on the Five Spot...
  15. I didn't know he'd died of AIDS. Still, I doubt from touching the blood on the keys one could 'get it.' It's actually a fairly difficult disease to get.
  16. Shorter hardly solos on any recordings from the 70s, save Shepp's "Coral Rock." He was going a bit (more) out of his mind at that point, so the story goes.
  17. Sangrey's right - Tes Esat is certifiably insane, and possibly beyond 'out.' I mean, we all know Shorter's a weird motherfucker, but have you ever heard Gary Windo's "Dogface" record, or his work with Ray Russell? I mean, the guy's a nut. I bet Dyani was having a blast working with that bunch of crazies. CT
  18. I've never heard an ESP jazz release I didn't like, but recommending the Marzette Watts and the Giuseppi Logan records to someone who prefers more 'tonal' saxophone playing (not to mention 'hates clarinet') is a might dubious... Just trying to keep 'em out of the used bins! CT
  19. Coltrane - Kulu Se Mama
  20. Could somebody give me a track listing on the Wright and the Emergency? I'm reviewing both but going from my vinyl copies. Want to make sure there aren't any takes I'm missing... Thanks! CT
  21. Steve Lacy "Forest and the Zoo" (ESP) One of my all-time favorite Lacys...
  22. I think that's the ticket... the Rudd is a really nice record, like the New York Art Quartet on ESP only more traditionally arranged.
  23. Yeah, and that whipped copy of the Jazz-West Lawrence Marable record they're selling is going for over a grand...
  24. Fine, fine, I'll fess up and admit it...
