  1. as much as I hate them but the Rangers might benefit from a dome in the summer. That heat has a history of wearing down pitching staffs in Texas. But they did make the playoffs 3 years in row in the late 90's so maybe its talent eval and management. I think this year was a build up to next when all the young talent will break through. Rangers could very well win the West this year with the issues the Halo's and A's are having. Not sold on Seattle's bullpen getting it done all year.
  2. Well I know I would have a heart attack if just once Dan posted after a loss that the other team had really talented players, maybe just maybe that the other teams player possibly by being really talented got a hit on a 90 mph slider on the black by going the other way with it for a clutch hit or a Red Sox hit that same slider to the warning track and left the winning run on second base that he is also really talented but just got under it and hey its one game, the other team just played a little better or got the breaks today for the win today and we will go get them tomorrow.
  3. The Lakers don't lose at home but as I see it the only two players that are tough on the Lakers are Kobe and Fisher. Since Denver doesn't have a lot of speed at the guard spots I think Fisher can hang but toughness may come into play with the big men. I felt back in January there were only two teams that could stop the Lakers from making the finals and that would be a healthy Spurs or the Billups lead Nuggets.
  4. That may be long term, WB3...the Raiders are still a big draw for the City of Oakland. I'd say San Jose has possiblities, but don't the Giants own the MLB rights to that part of the Bay?
  5. They are sort of trying, the Fremont stadium feel through (which is good, bad location, no public transpo and it would have been for corporate fans only), I doubt Oakland and the owners will be able to work something out as the owners want the county to fund everything and California is broke. So that leaves San Jose but the economy isn't so great right now for corporate money as it was when they first pursued San Jose. People float the idea of them moving to Portland Oregon or Las Vegas or maybe North Carolina but I don't see it. Someone needs to tell Bud that even though Pirates have a wonderful new stadium they still draw less than the A's. Best plan would be for the Raiders to leave (they are always blacked out for home games as is) and redo the existing coliseum and give it a face life like the Angels and Royals have done.

    Andrew Hill

I will second that, Time Lines is one my favorites by him. Must get CD tracks that are non on vinyl of Grass Roots...
  7. Correct Warren Wolf Jr. I don't know who he is but he sounds good on this. I have the advance, it comes out June 16th on Mack Avenue records. Inside Straight (I love the name) is: McBride - Bass Carl Allen - Drums Eric Scott Reed - Piano Steve Wilson - Sax Warren Wolf Jr. - Vibes
  8. Dan and Good Speak, can you guys keep the name calling and politics out of it? It takes away from both of your arguments. in my opinion there is a medium here. I live in the bay area and obviously Bonds took juice after 2000. Before that even when he was with the Pirates he was the best hitter I ever saw, I am an A's fan and I use to share season tickets to just to see Barry hit, since 93 you were in the presence of greatness. First ballot HOF in my opinion. Again as a Bay Area baseball fan my team the Oakland A's in 88 and early 2000's were the poster child for roids with Jose, McGwire, Jason and Miggy. I will say this though that we have taken a lot of shit about Barry that wasn't fair in that he was the poster child for roids when you we know he wasn't the only one using. Anybody that singled out Barry wasn't looking at the real problem and how wide spread the usage was in the league. Sellig, the Labor union, the owners, writers and fans all looked the other way. Singling out certain individuals might make you feel good so you can pass blame and have hate directed on but its living in denial.
  9. They are absolute dog shit. The tin foil hat person in my thinks there are doing it on purpose so attendance can get worst and they can go to Bud and say there is no way we can compete in this market and stadium. The owner cares more about selling the team and making a profit then having a winner. Its an odd thing to deal with because as much as I want to support my team I don't want to give a one f-ing red cent to the ownership.
  10. I think everybody knows by now I am obviously not a street teamer, so I thought we could have a thread on 09 Jazz releases worth talking about and checking out as the year 2009 progresses. Continuation - Alex Cline This one has been talked about a lot over at the Myra Melford thread but in addition to Alex Cline the contributions by Cellist Peggy Lee also need to be mentioned. Fantastic record. October Trio + Brad Turner - Looks Like It's Going to Snow Sax Trio with Turmpet player Brad Turner. Excellent inside/outside Ornette/Wayne Shorter inspired music. The Compositions are very good, a nice surprise as I wasn’t familiar with them at all. Brad Shepik - Human Activity Suite From the Songlines label that is also putting out the October Trio. This disc also features Drew Grees, Gary Versace and Raplph Alessi. Wide-ranging soundscapes from Indian to Arabic and Oriental. Shelpik was a guitarist I was not familiar with but this disc really impressed me. Enrico Rava – New York Days It’s ECM so don’t expect a blowing session but I really enjoy Mark Turner on this a lot. Boliani is fantastic as always. Jeff "Tain" Watts – Watts W/ Terence Blanchard, Branford Marsalis and Christian McBride. Lives up to the hype. Good as expected but haven’t spent a lot of time with them yet: Jack Dejohnette – Music We are W/ John Patitucci and Danilo Perez More structured than expected but still has amazing playing. Christian McBride – Kind Of Brown A 60’s retro Blue Note sound with vibraphone, a nice return to straight ahead jazz for him. Haven’t got to yet but will eventually: Chick Corea and John McLauglin – Five-Piece Band Keith Jarrett – Yesterdays
  11. So in the case of Alex Rodriguez we shouldn't limit our speculation. But according to you and Paps that doesn't apply to Manny and his time with the Red Sox. Doesn't seem fair to me.
  12. I don't think their championships are tainted, but there is no way in hell Manny wasn't cycling roids with the Red Sox. Just as I don't think Bonds, A-Rod, Clemmens ect should have a fucking * on their records because way more people were doing them then we think therefore it was a even playing field. I only said that to bring up the stupidity of the media and fans who wanted the * in the past. There is 4 ways to look at it. 1. Probably the most healthy way is who cares, its entertainment. 2. Mine, I don't like it but I get it. If 40% more college eligible kids are trying to break into pro sports then in the 70's then DUH they will do anything they can to get an edge to be part of the that 1% and keep doing it once there in.* Since its impossible to clarify eras anyway the sanctity of the records are overrated. I never thought I would say this but Jose Canseco is looking smarter everyday. 3. Screw em all Im done. 4. Your way which is only selected players that have already been pointed out have done them and need to be punished to the full extent of the law and all of my guys are clean is hypocritical in my opinion. * I bet there was poll in america right now that asked would you take an illegal drug to get paid like a CEO I am guessing it would be close to a 90% yes.
  13. I am going to assume that you meant to say "I don't think he did them with the Red Sox" since its quite obvious that he in fact did them as a Dodger. Unless, that is, you are of the belief that steroid cycles are eight years long, followed by a ten month break, then an intensive effort to jump start the production of testosterone. What is everyone going to say if a respected doctor - not some guy running a store-front script mill - comes out and says "Manny has had erectile dysfunction for a long time. OTC medications have not helped, and therefore I prescribed a female fertility drug that is known to trigger a massive increase in testosterone production in an attempt to treat his problem. I did not realize this would trigger a positive test in MLB's drug program. I am sorry and have already reached a settlement agreement with Mr. and Mrs. Ramirez." Because as embarrassing as it may be, if that is Manny's explanation, he's got to get it out there and not just put out a statement and disappear for 50 games. Then you can bet that Manny was cycling steroids in the off-season. and I believe Bonds was taking flax seeds. plus he never failed a test with the giants. even k? testing was much more stringent when Manny was a Dodger then when he was a red sox. your killing me. Manny's not dumb, he cut his cycle too close.
  14. Good idea then you can grab lunch at Matt's At The Market. If they don't have it then the Elliott Bay Book Company in Pioneer Sqaure will. That bookstore is always worth a visit.
  15. ^ it was HCG - the fertility drug is commonly used at the end of a roid cycle to kick-start the production of testosterone. There really isn't any reason for him to do so unless he did roids in the past. I don't think he did them with the Dodgers. As I said before stop the witch hunts with only some players and clean up the game. I do think if Albert Puljous gets caught it might end baseball as we know it.
  16. Yeah that's what I'm saying. It comes down to does Manny Ramirez have the prescription slip? If so its unfortunate that he has do 50 games, but so did J.C Romero.
  17. I bet it was weed! "Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was OK to give me," link Now I blame Ahnold for re-opening the debate. I wonder if Manny got a Medical Marijuana card in his name, citing stress at work?
  18. Of course it would be impossible and a nightmare to retroactive the record books. So stop the witch hunts. Everyone roided, yes, it was still a level playing field. So given that, the media, the public, and the government need to remove themselves from the ballsacks of Bonds, Clemens, and anyone else selectively mentioned in the self-admittedly incomprehensive Mitchell Report. EVERYONE needs to recognizes that everyone roided.
  19. time to put an * on those Red Sox world series. probably the last clean world series winner was the 87 Twins. Defending champs your 1987 Twins!!!
  20. link on Manny. Dodgers should still win the division but if I were the Giants I would try and trade for a bat right now and take advantage.
  21. The Joe Dorn interview is fantastic, what a great read and story about him writing to Atlantic at 15 because he couldn't find any Ray Charles records to interning and working for Atlantic in his early 20s to discover and record new talent. How things have changed.
  22. Spike Lee was sitting by himself with a ton of empty seats around him ....I thought it was because no one liked him. You might still be correct.... I like Spike, I liked his bass playing dad better but Spike is cool with me. The Yankees will rue the day they priced out the true fan and took away their home field advantage. Screw em. Big Al, congrats on the Rangers this year since its safe to say they won't come in last thanks to blunder by the bay in Oakland. I am getting to the point I can't even watch anymore.
  23. No worries, the A's will catch up soon. The A's are due for another game this week where 4 players go on the DL and bullpen has to pitch four innings at least (the bullpen part is a everyday event, the DL part just weekly). As Yogi said "it gets late earlier out there", its going to be a long summer. I would have been happier just having kids who aren't ready for prime time rebuilding and getting their brains bashed in all year then being offered this joke of contention by fielding an aging team of ex stars that can't hit or stay on the field.

    Miles Davis

Even though the Verve Original's re-issue is just the 10 track album version and even if you already own it in some other form its worth picking up just to hear the job they did on the remaster. Generique is sublime. Its probably the best sounding CD (US release anyways) from an audio standpoint in the whole Miles catalog.
  25. Saw it last night, love it. They both deserved Oscars. I look forward to reading your blog entry on it Alexander. Great flick.
