Miami Beach Hooker bites Vince Shlomi's tongue
WorldB3 replied to Christiern's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
are you afraid of a disease, or do you think prostitutes are unworthy of kissing? not that I know first hand but I thought it was a known rule that they don't kiss. Line of intimacy and all that. -
I think you scored with Where Fortune Smiles. Although I don't own it, the samples I've heard are awesome! Just have a cd player and the cd is pretty rare nowadays. I know something is worth only what someone would pay for it but I was surprised to find Where Fortune Smiles for 5 bucks after seeing the CD go for 40 on amazon. Its some killer free jazz. Gave all of these a listen so far and they are all excellent. I think side one of the Szabo and side two of the Burton I have enjoyed the most so far.

1K for a hooker? does this mean the stimulus package is working? Who kisses a hooker? -
Villanova - Duke and Gonzaga - N.C will be the ones to watch. Im thinking Duke goes down tonight.

Made the way down the hill from work to Amoeba (gorgeous today in SF!) and picked some OOP releases on vinyl at great prices. Lee Morgan – Taru John McLaughlin – Where Fortune Smiles Gabor Szabo – Live (w/Charles Lloyd and featuring a NSFW cover) Gary Burton – Ring Comments on these are welcomed.

Thanks Jim, I will be ordering this one. I just saw Stanton Moore last weekend with Medeski and Bernard and they were amazing. I miss having Charlie Hunter in the Bay Area. He got unfairly bashed by the Jazz purists and the rockers for having success with both crowds if that makes any sense. I always thought he wrote good tunes and had a unique sound.

Let us know how the "Pure Jerry" is. I didn't order it because Jerry's voice was done by then, coma year etc.. but the sample of Bird Song sounded great. I was just spinning Love Light from the Filmore box set yesterday and was loving the energy on it after having to skip that dud of a song Cosmic Charlie. I should break down and order DP31 since I love 74 so much.

If not then Dreams So Real would be the obvious choice for the Carla Bley factor. Great record.

Initial thoughts, had a brutal couple weeks at work and couldn't get to this. BFT 63 – disc 1 1 – like the groove, it has a little Gene Harris thing going on but I find myself I want to like it more, its not bad by any means but I feel like I keep waiting/wanting for it go somewhere else. 2 – ooh, I dig this, kind of reminds me of the Prince Lasha /Sonny Simmons record they did with the double bases but I know its not that. Has an Ornette Coleman feel. 3. Love this, nice Joe Henderson and Chick Corea 70’s thing but its not them. Will want to get this someday. 4. Not my thing. But I think I am starting to pick up the theme of the mix. 5. Pretty, no clue but I like it. 6. Not a vibest I am familiar with, its nice enough but not sure if its working for me. 7. Gets better after the head but it still feels rushed. Guitarist is trying to sound like Sco. 8. Sounds familiar, I may have had this at one point but didn’t go back to it. 9. I like this so far. It has a 70’s African/NY/Free vibe to it. Good energy, I feel like I should know this. 10. This is quite pretty but the new age synth tamber ruins it, however its gets a lot better once the real piano comes in with the solo. For some reason it makes me think Kenny Werner. 11. At first I wasn’t crazy about it at first but I like it once the solo’s start. 12. Reminds me of the Jimmy Giuffre Fly Away Little Bird record.

As for the title track itself Wayne's solo is just so damn sweet I can't see how anybody could not enjoy it. Its also a fun tune to play but getting the right feel/groove for it is not as easy as it sounds.

Walton has gotten a lot better than when he started and to his credit even when he over exaggerated when trying to be funny he had great timing and he never interrupted the flow of the game where Van Gundy's commentary is all about him and never the game. Its gotten to the point where I won't even watch the ESPN games he does anymore or I turn the sound off. I can count at least 10 times this year where there would be a block on one end and a fast break slam dunk or 3 pointer and Van Gundy is still talking about something only he cares about instead of letting the play happen or letting the play by play man do his job on the most exciting play of the game. I can't stand him. Besides I use to love the Waltonisms. Since he is such a Deadhead it would be fun to have the a option for Bill Walton commentary for live Dead recordings. First song, first solo: "the greatest Garcia solo in the history of the Dead's organization!", oohh, Donna, coming in off key, what was that? horrible!"

What live music are you going to see tonight?
WorldB3 replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
This show was incredible. The band was locked in, the energy level and musicianship was off the charts. I can't believe I had never seen Medeski or Moore live before. I hope these guys can make time from their other bands to put out more records and tours. -
Dave Steib was great in his day, too bad the expansion Blue Jays were not. He was a favorite of mine growing up because I always felt sorry for him.
-
I never ever hinted at that, I just never liked the way he talked negatively about his teammates to the press or his politics. Except for winning a big post season game now and then he never seemed like a guy I would want on my team. If character means something to get in the HOF as others on here say it does then being a good teammate should go into consideration.
-
No, no and no. 214 wins considering how long he was in the league isn't good enough. Plus if the HOF takes character into consideration Schilling is a class A jerk. Great post season pitcher and I would have loved to have pitch for my team in the post season but personality wise I never liked him, even back when he was in Philly.
-
I heard this show is one of the all time great ones, I don't think I have any 68 in my collection so I just ordered it and very much looking forward to it.

Anybody who would dismiss this record has probably never bothered to play side two or the second half of the CD. Even though the first half is like a Wayne Shorter Greatest Hits Album and I love those tunes its Chief Crazy Horse and The Collector that make this one of his best, what more do you need? Interesting writing, great energy. I also love how those tracks point to where he would go on Etcetera which is a classic. I don't play my 60's Blue Notes as much as I use to but I never grow tired of this one.

I am happy to remove this post if it breaks any rules but I found this off of Rolling Stone and its not an official release. http://www.rollingstone.com/blogs/smokings...-live-in-74.php Link here: http://www.aquariumdrunkard.com/2009/03/11...w-london-013174 Living for the City and Superstition are insane, what a band!

More hype than substance. Overall, it's ok, with disc 2 being much better than disc 1. The problem for me is that the music does not have any "sustained heat". That and the fact that I'm not crazy about McBride's electric bass playing. FWIW, I believe that the Return to Forever reunion is a much better listen. Oh well. Corea is still a standout musician, but, and I hate to say this, McLaughlin may be on a steep downward spiral, especially considering his last few solo releases. Thanks for this, they are playing in the bay area and it looked like it was too good to be true but on the other hand it also feels like a money project. I haven't heard it but I think I will pass on the live show as McLaughlin hasn't been his self in recent years and for what ever reason McBride's electric bass playing disappoints. Mostly due to how much I love his acoustic stand up bass playing.

Will Bernard John Medeski Andy Hess Stanton Moore Friday, March 20, 8PM Great American Music Hall Will was a local bay area kid I have been following for years and I get the bonus of seeing Medeski and Moore in a small venue. Looking forward to it. It's also one of those shows where I can get some friends to go with me. For so many jazz shows I find myself going alone. -
I checked again, and the game is listed, I must have passed over it. Sweet, it should be a nice game to watch. I don't get it in my area via Comcast unless I want to pay and extra 160.00 for the year and its not even in HD. I hate Comcast.

Cool, After giving Apti a few spins over the last couple weeks and based on the reviews here I think I will grab Kinsman.
-
A good starting point for the later years would be the compilation "The Original Jam Master Ain't It Funky Now Vol 1". People can rip on the album Carryin On all they want but you won't find a better solo then the one on Ease Back or a better grove than I Don't Want Nobody to Give Me Nothing which are both on the comp along with a great live version of Its Your Thing. The problem with the later stuff isn't so much Grant but the band and the tunes were not up to the earlier stuff. However when Grant is soloing over a Idris Muhammad drum beat like on the live album "Live at Club Mozambique" all is right in my world. The organist Ronnie Foster is pretty good on that one also.

I saw the term a couple years ago, basically what I get is its a term for people that have a taste for more underground hip hop acts with a lighter style of rap, more up beat. In addition to the Roots, groups like Blackalicious, Black Star, De La Soul, Jurasic 5, Mos Def, Pharcide. I would say my taste in hop hop would make me a "backpacker". Originally it was a slang term from the 1980s for a graffiti artist who always wore a backpack containing his music collection.
