  1. 'Montara' is very unlikely, I think. More of a latin fusion session and also fairly recently reissued by Blue Note on CD.
  2. By way of contrast I was sunbathing at Lake Windermere (Northern England) on New Years Day. Got a bit of mild sun-burn and it was also warm enough to eat an ice cream. Unbelievable - it had snowed there 2 days earlier.
  3. If that's the case, that should therefore include 'Inner Glow'. Not before time on CD !
  4. Interesting ! I didn't even realise there were copies of 'Search' around with the ear (just checked my copy and it doesn't). My mono and stereo 'Unity' LPs have the ear though.
  5. Makes sense ! I've come across quite a few of these. They often have the original laminate jacket and the runouts for the older titles have 'RVG' but no deepgroove or ear. The vinyl is usually noticably thinner than LPs from 'Plastylite'.
  6. Humphrey Lyttleton 'Humph at the Conway' (original Parlophone mono). Produced by George Martin, pre-Beatles.
  7. Good luck ! Comes up on ebay on occasion, maybe 2-3 times a year. Haven't seen one listed for a while.
  8. Are zweitausendeins doing a deal to undercut these? Looks a little steep..
  9. Absolutely! Many thanks for the rundown... Can only confirm that my copies of the Joe Henderson and Big John Patton have no ears But they still sound so good! Just checked my monos of these two titles and it's the same - without ears. Agree that these titles both sound fantastic in this pressing so no problems with the lack of 'ear'.
  10. That one's a beauty. Any copies discovered should be grabbed hold of without delay. Probably my favourite Melle recording (including the Blue Notes).
  11. Wow ! And I thought $51.99 from jpc was a great deal !
  12. Eric Dolphy 'Out To Lunch' (BN NY USA mono)
  13. Have a very happy and moosey birthday !
  14. Shake Keane 'That's The Noise' (Ace of Clubs mono) Kenny Burrell 'Midnight Blue' (BN NY USA mono DG side 1)
  15. Time to sell the DMMs...
  16. A Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to all ! I'm off on a short hol next week but just time to spin a few festive Blue Notes and Mosaics before I go.
  17. 'Ray's Jazz' in London have this behemoth for £90 but I think I'll wait until my Amazon Xmas certificate arrives and go for the $120 deal from the US.
  18. Very cool ! That must have been around the time that Jackie was appearing in the play 'The Connection'. Wonder who was in the band?
  19. Bobby Hutcherson 'Knucklebean' (BN blue label)
  20. Now if only JazzTimes was doing discounts on Mosaics...
  21. Is it my imagination or did the price of vintage Blue Note LPs in particular go exponential in 2005 ? I suspect that it is more economical being a cocaine addict than a Blue Note vinyl addict ..
  22. This will be a good set. I think I've got most of the material apart from 'The Cool World' on vinyl or (in the case of 'Jambo Caribe') on CD so will probably pass on this one. Some of the 'Cool World' material I have on a Diz anthology set. Particular thumbs up to the Lalo Schifrin arranged 'New Continent' - released on Limelight (as mentioned above). 'The Chains', in particular, is a real good arrangement and the whole thing is well recorded. Sounds like it won't be on this set though.
  23. I'll add the 47W63rd Horace Silvers to the list of great sounding originals. Just listening to the DG 'Horace-Scope' after a bit of a vinyl clean and it is wonderful. Superb presence ! Still can't work out why they screwed up with 'The Connection' though..
  24. Absolutely ! Very pleasing, neutral sound quality and very quiet in terms of background noise. You can't go wrong with these.
