  2. I think I'll buy it for the nice blue cover. The CD mastering of this one probably sounds like s**t but I don't care..
  3. As well as the Joe Williams session there's also the album Thad & Mel did with Ruth Brown, also left off of the Mosaic set. Both of these, although excellent, extensively feature the vocalists so I guess that's why they weren't included.
  4. One of my local shops has got that blue-rinse Leo Parker. Gotta have that one !
  5. Ging Gang Goolie Lord Baden Powell Baden Powell
  6. Manfred Mann 'Chapter Three' (Vertigo). Some nice playing from saxophonist Bernie Living on this one. A very successful late 60s rock and jazz hybrid. Followed by: Gerry Mulligan/Shelly Manne 'Jazz Combo From I Want To Live' (London label UK original mono pressing) Slide Hampton Octet 'Sister Salvation' (London label UK original mono, DG)
  7. I've held off buying the individual LPs and CDs of this one just so that I can get the Donaldson set..
  8. The Count Kermit the Frog Kermit Driscoll ← Kermit Moore Bobby Moore Pele
  9. Clarke-Boland Big Band - 'Plays Famous Themes From Great Motion Pictures' (Campi)
  10. No doubt a few glasses of 'Jesus Juice' are being filled at this very moment..
  11. This happened before a month or so ago - some of the Selects disappeared for a while then too. Just a temporary blip. Or maybe it could be a weird side-effect of the Jacko verdict...
  12. Amazing to see 'Oblique' heading back onto the racks after a long stint off the radar. Superb session !
  13. First track on 'Mother Ship'. After a relatively subdued start to the solo, it goes absolutely apeshit. Amazing stuff - I wonder what they thought of that in the studio .
  14. Dave Alvin Paul Simon Brother Theodore ← Brother Jack McDuff Brother Ah Ahmed Abdul-Malik
  15. Maybe she can do a piano/guitar duet with Tony Blur next time she visits ol' London town..
  16. General 'Stormin' Norman' Schwartzkopf Norman Bates Blaster Bates
  17. Herbie Hancock 'Speak Like A Child' (BN Liberty stereo) Gil Melle 'Gil's Guests' (Japanese Victor)
  18. The Elvin 'Lighthouse' CDs were definitely issued as 2 separate CDs by BN around 1989 (ish). I have Vol 1 of this (now superseded by the Mosaic). Other 'Doubletimes' include, I think, the Stan Kenton 'Innovations' set ( ). As mentioned previously the McIntyre was also a 2CD Doubletime, probably my favourite of these. Just recently picked up the Grolnick ( ). Hiding in the shelves in a London store until I spotted it. Two great sessions on that one. HMV have also been selling some of the 2CD sets at £4.99, including the Dorham, the Burrell and the Green/Clark. Bargain of the century !
  19. Friedrich Gulda 'Music For Piano and Band Number 2' (UK CBS). With Tubby Hayes.
  20. Jack Daniels Jack McDuff Macbeth
  21. Fantastic - that would be amazing if my hunch was right ! Here's a link to what I think might have been the show. First came out in 1967 so the timing is about right. World About Us
  22. 'Mirrors - The Amazing Benny Bailey' Arranged and Conducted By Francy Boland (Freedom)
  23. Who the $%*& is 'Arthur Treacher' ? Never heard of it !
  24. 'Deep In A Dream' by James Gavin is sat on my shelf and this thread is just the incentive to pick it up again. Very good book. Also have the 'autobiography' which I have yet to read through. Incredible 'ear' player - truly great natural melodic sense but not a great technician. Shared Miles' gift of making the most of the technical limitations and working round them. Enjoy the Mosaic studio and live boxes very much but also like the Prestige material recorded for Richard Carpenter where Chet is mainly on the flugelhorn. The story behind those sessions is pretty harrowing, to say the least !
