  1. The ‘3 Bs’ - Barber, Ball and Bilk.
  2. RIP. An important, influential early figure on the UK scene and also very open to influences (he recorded with Harriott). Due to tour as late as 2019 until that was cancelled by a fall, with his ‘Big Chris Barber Band’. Duo gig with Tony Crombie?
  3. Very good concert and 2CD set !
  4. Did they throw in some baby powder with that?
  5. Just booked both of mine. The first one in a couple of days time.
  6. Very sad - I chatted to him briefly once as a young guy. At the time it was looking as if he might be coming up to Canada to take up a college teaching job which didn’t happen in the end. Caught him a few times with Don Byron - RIP.
  7. Interesting. I recall the Scott bio mentioning that Majorca stint in the 60s with Graves.
  8. Pretty good. I have the Rendell/Carr on preorder too, the Russell is on the cards.
  9. Incredible that the music survived - the BBC sessions were ‘assumed lost’ until they turned up in the Hiseman archive. And in such good fidelity too.
  10. A real find from the Hiseman archive and another excellent release from this label.
  11. I had one of those sweeper things on my old deck in the 1970s - can’t say it was much use.
  12. There does seem to be a lot of irrational group think misinformation festering there, which is having a very adverse impact on their vaccination programme. Quite a percentage of idiots are also going for a complete opt out - totally ludicrous and sadly, at a cost of lost lives.
  13. Time to dig out my LP copy of ‘Insight’ on the UK CBS label. It’s not one you see here too often and was never reissued here - a bit of an oddity, in a good way. Don’t think I saw that Dusty CD reissue over here - will grab it if I see it. Nice find !
  14. Just the live interview section seems to be available on the archive.
  15. Remember seeing the Italian Instabile Orchestra at the Bath Fest quite a few years ago now. Back in the days when jazz was a significant element of that festival.
  16. Strange, this mis-match between traditional/swing LP sets and modern jazz LP sets. If this set had covered the modern era it would probably be worth at least 10 times as much. I think my copy cost about £90-100 in NM. Must dig it out !
  17. Yes, next time I saw him was in 85. The band with Scofield, Bob Berg and Robert Irving III. Fine performance - but Al was missed. Miles played quite a bit of organ. Teo captured Foster’s drums very well on ‘We Want Miles’.
  18. Hidden in the sleeve - my programme for Kenny’s 75th Birthday tour. In addition to Konitz, I’d forgotten that Dave Holland was in the lineup that night.
  19. That Jazzwise article and the cover has a couple of photos from Hermosa Beach and also what looks like the Last Session which I haven’t seen before.
  20. Thanks - they obviously got their wires crossed.
  21. Remember seeing him with his trio in that early Blue Note period. Can’t recall too much of it though !
  22. Just read an article in this month’s UK Jazzwise magazine on Morgan and Live at the Lighthouse and it mentions that this new set will be 8LP and no mention at all of a CD version - presumably they got their information wrong? Or maybe this is a special UK expurgated version?
