  1. Chewy - point 2: yes. It even sounds a bit better to me than the King Records ‘The Collector’ although a I will have to check on that point. Definitely better than the LT, clearer and with extended range both ends. point 4: I would definitely give it a try. It is more ‘polite’ than the 47w63rd original but as my original does have a few clicks, the virtues of crisp and clear sound become apparent. My verdict is that it is good to have both. Always nice to have Baby Face on an original ! PS - you definitely also need that Lonnie Smith.
  2. Must be collectable for the Mati Klarwein cover art. The only one I saw over here was about £70. Refuse to pay that for a Liberty ! ’Demon’s Dance’ futures heading South..
  3. Nice sounding double, French pressing.
  4. The MM 2x45 ‘Exercise’ version is my one copy of this one on vinyl.
  5. I took a look. Then had a cold shower..
  6. Such a nice guy. I have a gig flyer he signed with a very nice greeting and I swear it emanates positive vibes !
  7. I’ve gone cold turkey. Too scared to even look at that site ! My next funds are earmarked for Mr Desmond and his Torontonian friends..
  8. I will be doing a UK Liberty vs. Tone Poet check this weekend. I was going to include the French Pathe Marconi version but think I can safely discount that one from the mix. Enjoying this one. Thoughts?
  9. Rumours on the Hoffman board that ‘Demon’s Dance’ is on the list, which will be good as Liberty pressings of that one are not too common.
  10. Yes, it is very good. Never heard a version of this one with Blakey’s drums so crisp. The trouble with this series is that buy one, it grows on you then threatens to take over your house like Day of the Triffids. They are not exactly small.
  11. Actually saw the Brecker Bros. live in 1980 - but they were doing a Tribute to Charlie Parker concert !
  12. Another one on the TP series.
  13. But inexplicable that he wasn’t featured during the 2005 2-day Jazz Britannia Barbican and Conservatory shows, whereas pretty well all of the active cohort were featured. Maybe he was on tour at the time?
  14. Not forgetting the perhaps unlikely collaborations with Stan Tracey over the years.
  15. RIP, fine player. He’s interviewed as Robert Northern on that H. Eugene Smith ‘Jazz Loft’ documentary film, specifically about the Monk Town Hall Concert rehearsals with Hall Overton, Monk and co. at that loft.
  16. Wish they would put that one out in the TP series though (if only for what would be a definitive sleeve). I guess though that they did a MM 2x45 - forgetting that I have that one somewhere. We are spoilt !
  17. Another winner in this series.
  18. Tone Poet version of ‘The Prisoner’. Lovely crisp sound, particularly Tootie Heath on drums - I’ll have to check against my Liberty but this will probably end up being the go-to version.
  19. Just checked Jazz Britannia Ep. 3 - not Weekend or Working Week but he didprovide a backing track for the first Acid Jazz LP (never heard it). So - no 80s TOTP appearances by the look of it.
  20. I don’t think it was Working Week, likely that slightly earlier band ‘Weekend’. There’s a bit about it in Tippett’s interview on Jazz Britannia I think. I caught Mujician too, on their home turf, but at a slightly earlier date. If I remember rightly ex forum member Bev Stapleton was also there but I never saw or met him ! This is pretty incredible ! https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2egzr0
  21. A good article on Tippett’s life and career here. https://jazzjournal.co.uk/2019/06/16/keith-tippett-spontaneous-combustor/ I might even have seen that TOTP performance with Fripp and co and if my memory is right he did another TOTP appearance with Larry Stabbins in the early 80s !
