  1. There was an OK vinyl reissue of that one some years ago but I guess that one is hard to get now too. That’s what I’d heard too - was looking forward to that cancelled Bristol performance with Matthew Bourne being rescheduled.
  2. This is a fairly recent release - and an excellent one.
  3. Terrible news. He had heart problems in recent years but before recent events I saw mention of performances lined up in this part of the world and I was looking forward to catching at least one of them. 72 years is far too young; deepest condolences to the family. A gifted, grounded and most committed musician and one of the greatest things to ever come out of Bristol. What a great recorded legacy though - the early albums, Centipede, King Crimson, Ovary Lodge, the Ogun years, Mujician plus his various small and larger groups of more recent years. An important musical legacy. Grateful to have caught him solo on a few occasions and with Mujician. I think the favourite performance I saw has to be the solo recital at Bath Guildhall around 2003-4, using ‘prepared’ piano.
  4. It’s on my (growing) list ! The Burrell reissue is an absolute blinder. Astonishing for something that is now 65 years old.
  5. There’s a link to an interesting interview with Don Thompson about this recording and its circumstances in this week’s Mosaic mailshot.
  6. The BBC World Service also recently did a good Hazel Scott bio programme, which can be found via their Sounds app I think. That Debut session with Mingus and Roach is excellent !
  7. Probably the latter.. Listening to the stereo version on Spotify. I may pounce on the Tone Poet LP so demoing on my streamer. Nothing profound but very enjoyable. This one is more profound though - Conn reissue Really like that ‘Three Originals’ series. They were a bit elusive/expensive here when they came out though. George Shearing had a very happy period at MPS, by all accounts.
  8. I picked up a couple of straggler spare CDs from that box back in the day - I wonder if it was one of the ones affected by the reputed CD plant pilfering? Candid
  9. I might hold off on those - I have both of those sessions on the Mosaic LP sets. Tempting though. Happy Birthday !
  10. Highly recommended ! Kenny Clarke and Candido are captured very nicely.
  11. Another Tone Poet. This one is tremendous.
  12. Tone Poet version. Not the ‘in your face’ excitement or sonic saturation of the DG original version but a bit more detail is apparent. Pretty damn good !
  13. Local dentists are just opening up but it is only limited super-urgent cases at present and limited treatments.
  14. After being suitably impressed with my first bundle of these I have ordered a few more, including Herbie’s ‘The Prisoner’. That one is a real favourite so can’t really ignore this version. if only Pathe Marconi had done their early 80s DMMs this way back in the day !
  15. Reminds me of the ground plan for Silchester in Southern England. Only parts of the wall for that site remains. Is that a theatre/amphitheatre in the bottom RHS?
  16. Unmissable for the Corky McCoy devil with hooves cartoon in tracing paper at the front !
  17. The new one from Kate Westbrook and the Granite Band
  18. Damn - now I’ll have to get the CD as well. Typical ! Sounds great on the vinyl though. Sure to be good.
  19. Another one by Pete (LaRocca) Sims to check out his his ‘Swingtime’ on Blue Note. A more recent recording and only on CD I think.
  20. It sounds pretty good.
