  1. Too bad about the shipping costs to Europe - not to mention the various taxes on arrival. Likely not much saving, if any, when that is factored in. Would quite like the Thad and Mel on vinyl though.
  2. No - no warbling that I noticed on the mono or stereo, although I wasn’t looking for it. Didn’t notice any on the Mosaic version either. Haven’t heard the Tone Poet so can’t compare.
  3. Mono NY version today. Prefer it to the stereo, although both are good. What a debut Blue Note this one was ! He’s on that ‘Jazz Loft’ documentary on French horn, rehearsing for the Monk Town Hall concert with Hall Overton. Well worth checking out ! Mono, NY. Incendiary !
  4. Nothing that I can see - there doesn’t seem to be too much logic behind it, other than the McConnell tracks on CD6 and ‘Live’ on CD7. The earlier disks were probably varied up for variety and to fit in with CD disk time limits, I guess.
  5. Kate Westbrook & The Granite Band
  6. I’ll have to dig it out ! i think the LP was purchased and signed at one of their UK gigs so it must have been literally off the press. I would guess that they were appearing at Nice and made a detour. Or maybe it was signed at the Nice Festival. Updated - Maybe I got it wrong and it is just signed by Al. The more likely scenario.
  7. I have a vinyl of that one - and signed by both Al and Jimmy.
  8. The Coltrane ‘New Directions’ Box, LPs 1 and 2
  9. The Mobley is in better sound than any previous CD issue I’ve heard of the material. Malcolm Addey did his usual magic.
  10. Yeah, i’d forgotten just how good it was and was playing the YouTube sample. I think this issue is on digital download or LP. ’Introducing the Arman Ratip Trio’ is also on YouTube. Much more conventional and from first listening, a lesser session.
  11. Interesting. I thought I’d heard he was doing more conventional jazz trios in Istanbul but I could be wrong. Good that he will benefit from this one and that it will get some belated recognition. Not sure I agree with the OBI blurb about it being one of the top 10 British Jazz records of all time but it is well up there, for sure.
  12. Very elusive on Regal Zonophone. I have one - but it is the only copy I’ve ever seen. I would like to get hold of his ‘Introducing the Arman Ratip Trio’ but that is equally elusive and the world would not only be over but converted into a black hole before that one is reissued. Tempted to pick up a copy of this reissue - it looks to be licensed from the Man himself, who lives back in Turkey these days I believe.
  13. Fontana, stereo. Sample copy.
  14. Arman Ratip ‘The Spy From Istanbul’ has finally been reissued on vinyl. And the World is about to end. A very obscure session originally on ‘Regal Zonophone’. They are peddling it as ‘spiritual jazz’ - BS categorisation . Very interesting music though, with a band including Marc Charig and Harry Miller.
  15. Unlikely - and in any event the ‘B’ event has already happened. My recent deliveries from the ‘mainland’ have taken a couple of days at most, which is quicker than it was 5 years ago from my recollection.
  16. Sigh......... golden era.
  17. NY mono labels, Liberty sleeve. Probably a radio promo copy.
  18. Sorry to hear this, RIP. I really like his two Blue Note albums.
  19. Lou Donaldson and Dinah Washington didn’t hang around. Victims of the ‘Friday Night Massacre’.
