  1. Nucleus 'Solar Plexus' (Vertigo, swirl)
  2. Just about to give a first spin to the new Basil Kirchin issue on Trunk Records. Two movie soundtracks. The second session was apparently John McLaughlin's last as a session musician before he left to join Miles.
  3. There are usually plenty of them hanging out in my garden staking out the bird life. That's as close as they get.
  4. No way would I allow one anywhere near my place - with the turntable. That - and throwing up hair balls.
  5. Thinking about it, I would probably also add the following: Rebecca Nash Group 'Redefining Element 78' Corrie Dick Quintet Both at the Swanage Jazz Festival and both interesting projects. Also at Swanage - Tony Kofi and Dennis Rollins' excellent 70s Adderley Brothers Tribute.
  6. Well, I guess anyone in Europe (or indeed anywhere outside the US) who buys this set is going to be financially fleeced whichever option they choose. Such is life. The variable is whether you get the set this year or some (currently) indeterminate time next year.
  7. Eric Gale actually made some nice recordings with Quincy Jones in a (slightly) more straight-ahead style. 'Smackwater Jack' has an 'evolution of jazz guitar' thing/suite (called 'Guitar Blues Odyssey I think) where he covers most of the stylistic bases.
  8. Sorry to hear that. Sounds like the Belgian TYQmusic or jazzmessengers might be the way to go for future sets.
  9. It's a good read. I also have his Jon Hendrix book in my 'to read' pile.
  10. Byas set has just arrived - surprise re-delivery.
  11. Are they also bringing back Sanyo 'music centres' tinny quad speakers and four-track players to get that authentic 1974 vibe? Wouldn't surprise me, based on some of the crap peddled at the moment. Next up - kipper ties, loud checquered jackets and flares, multicoloured platform pimp shoes..
  12. Too damn right ! Off the shelf for some Xmas season spinning today.
  13. A candidate for a Tone Poet reissue on LP, for sure. I have a CD reissue which I think was put out by Water in the US, sounds pretty good.
  14. Apparently my set is here in the UK and Fedex tried delivering it today.... but I was out ! It is at the local depot so I can either pick it up or get the delivery on the 22nd. Either way - just in time for Xmas !
  15. About 1976/77. If I remember correctly, he was advertising his second hand jazz LP list at the back of 'Jazz Journal'. Sent in SAE to get the list. That list has stuff like Tubbs 'Mexican Green' on Fontana for about £2 !
  16. Mine's left Memphis.... (and hopefully not to 'New York, Split'). I even now have an AM delivery time window on the 18th. Good stuff.
  17. Aha - got you. I remember those Mole paper auctions but never took part. Funnily enough, my very first second hand LP, a Miles twofer, was purchased from Ed at his home address from a typed list, possibly his first and before the Mole shop. No longer have the LPs but still have the list !
  18. Ed Dipple collection?
  19. Mine's apparently in Memphis with a scheduled delivery for the 18th. I admire their confidence. 🙂
  20. There's an interesting recording circulating with Cliff doing a gig with Warne Marsh and Lee Konitz in the late 70s. Whitley Bay, Northumberland, of all places. I think Ind is on that one too (audience recording).
  21. This BBC radio documentary on Scott is an interesting listen: Rewiring Raymond Scott I was thinking - surely he must have influenced Sun Ra? Some of that Electronium music could have fitted in on 'Disco 3000'.
  22. Whoopee - Just been notified that my order is at 'Label Created' stage so with a bit of luck I'll get the Byas Mosaic before Xmas. Shipping will be via Fedex International Connect Plus. 😀
  23. I've known that cover since the DMM Pathe Marconi LP in the mid 80s and never had an issue with it. The overriding feeling was 'mana from heaven' and just how good the music was.
