  1. My reaction too on seeing most of these festival lineups these days, alas.
  2. I quite like that series. Remember when they first came out, MPS boxed up 10 of the best and sold them as a boxed set. Never seen one here ‘in the wild’ though.
  3. They were indicating that deliveries were due to start next week but looks like mine is early. I did contribute some ‘source’ material so maybe it is priority service, perhaps. The book can be ordered via the JiB Bandcamp page under ‘Merchandise’. There’s also a bit of info on it on their Facebook site. A rare example of where we on this side of the Atlantic benefit ! I must admit, the most recent CD order of the Rendell/Carr and Trevor Tomkins arrived literally overnight. Both are recommended. Next order for me is probably the new Barbara Thompson. Net profits go to the Parkinsons charity so in a very good cause. There’s also Barbara’s memorial concert coming up in London in June I think. With regard to the Ardley book, I think the size/weight pushes up the price of shipping, even here in the UK. Hopefully Dusty will order it in. It looks like a labour of love by Viv Ardley and JiB and comes with 2 CDs of previously unissued music from the Ardley archive, plus a download of the sold-out RFH ‘Kaleidoscopes’.
  4. Just got a message to say that my copy of the Neil Ardley bio with the two CDs of Ardley material has been shipped by Jazz In Britain. Earlier than expected - excellent !
  5. Reads like a personal and somewhat idiosyncratic tribute to me and definitely not an obituary. Seems to stop at 1949 !
  6. Video with sound through hifi - George Coleman Octet, Camden Jazz Festival 1981
  7. Acoustic Sounds series.
  8. This is, surprisingly, turning into one of my favourite issues in the Tone Poet series.
  9. Maybe the Poole Lighthouse gig I saw was in 2003 as well. That feels about the right timeframe I think. That was the gig I ‘hijacked’ him near the band bus to sign some LPs.
  10. My shipment now declared officially ‘MIA’ and Mosaic have shipped out a replacement. Looking forward !
  11. Wish they would release offers like this over this side of the pond !
  12. Mosaic - CDs 1 and 2. Parker/Gillespie with Red Norvo and Slam Stewart !
  13. Everything about the production of that programme was sort of odd. I agree that it had more of a Barbican look to it, although there is an online review from 2001 which says RFH. I’m still not sure I was at that performance but around that time I did see Wayne and co. at Poole Lighthouse, so might have been part of the same tour. I’ll have to see if I can find the old concert tickets. It turns out that this show was originally made for the ‘BBC Knowledge’ channel, a short lived entity that preceded BBC4. Probably originally broadcast once at some impossible hour, which would explain why I never saw it at the time. Might also explain the slapdash tune titling.
  14. Definitely RFH in 2001, according to this program. They got the tune titling wrong on the first number - not ‘Sanctuary’ but ‘Chief Crazy Horse’ I think. Nice to see that snippet of Weather Report film with Eric Gravatt on drums.
  15. Would have missed this but for a chance check of the TV listings. I guess this must have been originally broadcast back in 2001, hadn’t previously seen it. My recollection is that Wayne played a fair bit of tenor but was possibly a bit ‘underpowered’ at times on the blowing front. Maybe the sound didn’t help. * * - Updated to say that my recollections are of the Barbican performance, which according to the Internet was 2006, was definitely at that one. If this 2001 gig was at the RFH, not entirely sure if I was at that one. How frustrating !
  16. Good to point out that ‘Zeitgeist’ album. It came and went very quickly when it was released, around 1974/75. I have a copy of the LP and that is another one to dig out.
  17. For anyone who can pick up UK BBC4, there is a broadcast of Wayne Shorter at the London Jazz Festival (presumably Barbican) tonight (Sunday 19 March) at 9.10 pm (half an hour).
  18. I think that tour of Coe/Horler was in about 2010-2012. Literally they did a countryside Festival performance just down the road from me and somehow managed to miss it. Regretting that now. I think I saw him also at one of the Swange fests in the 2000s as part of a bigger lineup but have forgotten the specifics.
  19. From the Milestone box.
  20. Review of the set on the London Jazz News site.. https://londonjazznews.com/2023/03/18/classic-jazz-at-the-philharmonic-jam-sessions-1950-1957/ Still waiting..🙁
  21. I’ve actually got an LP copy of it, will dig out this weekend. Not Philips Art Dept.’s greatest hour. Cousin of the Late Her Maj. ? That review is bizarre - the last tune I would consider ‘seldom heard’ is ‘St Thomas’ !
  22. CDs 3 and 4 from the Henderson Complete Milestone Box.
