  1. Let me guess. 1963?
  2. Dr No Dr Evil Mini Me
  3. Below -10C out there last night. Damn cold. Almost got frostbite clearing the ice off the car roof yesterday.
  4. George Stephenson Sir Nigel Gresley I K Brunel
  5. I remember pogo-ing to them, back in the day.
  6. Stanley Baxter Sting Yehudi Menuhin
  7. I don't think the natives knew what was going to hit them - although there had been a Festival there in 1969 (with John Mayer Indo Jazz Fusions on the bill, along with main headliner Bob Dylan). Lots of French anarchists wanted to get in for free, too. The ferry to IOW goes from Portsmough, of course - so not a long trip.
  8. Dana Val Doonican Bono
  9. Most people seem to have remembered the Tiny Tim show and switched off when Miles came on ! There was a documentary on TV the other night showing some IOW 1970 footage (a bit of Miles) with one of the local old ladies serving tea and cucumber sandwiches to a gaggle of hippies. As a freebie too.
  10. 'Wardell Gray Memorial Album, Vol 2' (UK Stateside, mono)
  11. NYJO Nye Bevan Bill Nighy
  12. Oh damn - I'd like those 3 Newport tracks but I've got all of the Isle of Wight material courtesy of the 'big box' (it was given its own CD in that set) and the 'Miles Electric' DVD. The music is great on that session, so you must have been at another gig TTK !
  13. Sorry to hear this. Truly one of the great photographers of jazz.
  14. The South West got hit very badly yesterday morning. It's stayed frozen through today but they are re-opening the roads and it should be a bit better tomorrow. No more snow forecast here for a few days so we need a thaw ! Tonight's temperatures don't look good though.. Designed by British Rail? I stick with my 20 year old ancient gas boiler. Much more reliable than this modern EU-approved rubbish !
  15. Tim Horton Pug Horton Captain Pugwash (and no 'Seaman Staines' please.. )
  16. One of the good things about a covering of snow is that you can see what has been rooting around the garden during the night, looking at the tracks. Some two-hoof tracks left all over the place this morning by what can only be a small deer. Literally hundreds of tracks, some right by the house - interspersed with splashes of urine !
  17. 'Chitinous Ensemble' (Deram, stereo). Paul Buckmaster, Ian Carr, Brian Smith etc.
  18. Lou Blackburn Dennis Preston Andrew Moog Oldham
  19. Joe Brazil The Boys From Brazil The Boys From The Black Stuff
  20. Sad news. Really like her work on the RRK 'Other Folks Music' album. Not too many of the B3 masters left now, sad to say. RIP.
  21. chewy Aric Eric the Half A Bee
  22. Have been listening to 'Bebop In Britain' (Charly, 4CD) - Compilation of 40s/50s Esquire material with Ronnie Scott, Kenny Graham Afro-Cubists ( ), John Dankworth etc and an excellent booklet.
  23. Cheers - Merry Xmas too. Fortunately the roads were pretty good that night. Flat calm sea and 8C registered by the pier ! Caught something flu-like after this concert though. Westbrook recommendations - that recent 'Waxeyworks' CD by the Village Band is well worth checking out. I would also recommend much earlier stuff such as 'Celebration', 'Marching Songs Vol 1/2', 'Citadel/Room 315' and 'Love Songs'.
