  1. Is that the Andorran Andorrans or the ones in Wisconsin?
  2. Is that a domestic water boiler just to the right of all those acetates/tape reels? Never realised he was responsible for those Session Disk and Ozone LPs. Still have a few of those around. "He told me once that he took great delight in confounding collectors and discographers, whom he regarded as the bean counters of jazz."

  5. A rare sight !
  6. Visions of the jobsworth ARP warden in Dad's Army! Makes you proud to be English. There could be a nuclear first strike going on and these guys would still be clamping.
  7. Don't be. Saves blowing a whole wad of money fur dubious benefit. Let the mafiosi pay and the rest of us watch the in-match pitched battles in comfort for free in HD. The project management of the Russia total country rail/road infrastructure upgrade programme should be interesting, to say the least. I hope the air cond breaks down in Qatar and Blatter and the backhander boys are stuck in a sweat box for hours on end. And lets hope they enforce in full the 'dry' licensing laws for the duration.

  12. And nominated for best Album Notes: "Side Steps Ashley Kahn, album notes writer (John Coltrane) [Prestige Records]" Shame there's no sign of any nominations for Mosaic this year.

  14. Interesting that Putin wasn't sweating over all the last-minute histrionics over the past few days. Hmmm...

  16. Damn cool. Wish I could be there. Hope everyone has a great time at this !
  17. You should be OK, Sidewinder, as the North West is relatively unscathed, being further from Russia than Lincs. or Notts. As long as the M5 and M6 are open I should be fine. I'm told that the place I'm staying up near Warton has a habit of being freezing cold though. Not totally dis-similar to the scene outside my front lane this morning. Substitute English hedgerows for those trees though. Quite nice ! Only marks in the snow were from a fox or badger that must have been snooping around overnight. More than likely a fox (there are hens just over the way).
  18. Not just my imagination. The cover photo dates from the 50s/60s. I remember those times well. No man would have been caught with a headscarf like that back then Could be the Elephant Man? I'll take on the cement mixer... Combine Harvester anyone?
  19. Snowed in !

  23. Too true ! Still no significant fall of the fluffy stuff here, although a sprinkle is scheduled overnight. I have a drive to Alpha Centauri/Lancashire to do on Monday afternoon so hope it thaws out up there !
  24. Thanks ! Not a major issue though for the South as we don't have the dumps of snow that you guys have had. That forecasted thunder storm, perhaps? Certainly some strong gusts of wind first thing but it has calmed down now. No snow, just around 0C. Positively balmy, indeed.
  25. No, 'fraid not. Although I sometimes eat Danish salami and might have some distant Viking blood from Erik Bloodaxe's troop, perhaps ! UK weather this week is unseasonably cold. It's been around -10C in the rural area around my place. If the gulfstream has shifted then we're stuffed and I'm off back to Canada to warm up. Wish I was a teacher like Bev and got the week off !
