  1. I remember seeing Applause pressings in the Canadian mall cheapo racks back in the early 90s (I bought 'Am I Blue' for 99 cents ). And Liberty issue cartridges/8-tracks going for cheap UK mail-order with Melody Maker back in the mid-70s ! That was how I first heard 'Sixth Sense' and 'Caramba'.
  2. Woolworths scene? You mean the pic 'n' mix? Don't know about the 'scene' in the US but here in their esteemed high-quality UK outlets one of my family got a deletion Buddy Rich 'Mercy Mercy Mercy' on UK Liberty for less than 10 of our old shillings..
  3. Wayne Shorter 'Speak No Evil' (BN NY USA mono)
  4. I have a very soft spot for 'Mingus Moves' on Atlantic - although it rarely gets the plaudits. The first Mingus LP (actualy a 2LP set) that I first heard is probably still my favourite - 'Charles Mingus - The Atlantic Years' from the mid-70s. There's so many brilliant Mingus albums to choose from, it's hard to single out the best. Also a shame that CBS haven't issued that session recorded live in the UK at Ronnie Scotts !
  5. Late but - Happy Birthday !
  6. On the LP12/Aro combination I use there isn't even a cueing device for getting the arm in on the run-in groove, you have to do it all by hand. Consequently, there is a 1-beer limit to driving this deck.
  7. A favourite of mine. Well worth picking up.
  8. Funnily enough this one is also a cutout and they want £5 for it. May just pick it up next time I am in (always regretted not buying this one 'back in the day'). That's where the Arista/Savoy 2LP set 'Second Nature' comes in useful. Superb compilation !
  9. I came close recently to buying an ABC/Impulse 'Dancing Sunbeam' 2LP set - but now I think I'll wait for the Select. This one looks a winner.
  10. Over the last few weeks we have had huge swarms of starlings in my area - in particular a major problem at work where I have to run to the car with an umbrella every night to avoid getting shat on by massed formations Even more bizarre - a kamikaze operation in the locality.. Starling Kamikaze Anyone else having trouble with these suckers?
  11. Ditto - and mine has a white label one side (albino mutant? )
  12. That's wild, I just happened to be on the Mosaic site late last night and the Curtis Amy and Bennie Green Selects were there as well as the Farlow. Same here - Curtis and Bennie were still on deck when I checked too.
  13. All of this is good to hear. Long live Mosaic !
  14. The blue vinyl 'Kind Of Blue' sounds OK..
  15. Is this back on TV? Haven't seen it since 1967/68 as a 'wee nipper' (I think it only got one showing in the UK) and always wanted one of them cool desert jeeps with the multiple machine gun installations ! Back to the topic at hand..
  16. Yeah, I'll bet that was the one from 30 years ago, looked well used even then. Topped off with levis, sneakers and a boot-lace tie. I was sat right at the front and got inadvertently dragged into the 'audience participation' so remember that gig very well. Not a place to sit with the Prof ! Still remember Ronnie Scott sat stage-left chuickling away to the Prof's act. Also that Corey asked if anyone in the audience had any requests and some wit said 'When's Cedar Walton coming back on?' Great to hear that he's still going strong.
  17. The best we can all do I guess is to order a set or two from Mosaic. Sod the value of the £ !
  18. Troy Tempest Helen Of Troy Menelaus
  19. Ivar The Boneless Erik Bloodaxe Hagar The Horrible
  20. Soft Machine 'Fourth' (UK CBS, stereo)
  21. Great news Stefan - congratulations !
  22. Arthur Pewty The Lumberjack Mountie Chorus
