  1. Happy birthday Mr Shorter ! Good to hear that there's a European tour coming up.
  2. I've been pretty happy with the sound of the Rearward/Schemas on vinyl and haven't had any issues so far with warping or print quality. Sonically, the early ones (e.g. the Strauss 2LP set) were probably the best though.
  3. Aha ! It'll have to be on my radar then. Maybe Dusty will get it in stock?
  4. The surface mail option usually works fine for me - and $12 is OK cost-wise. Most of the time it gets shipped Air Mail anyway (although I have visions of it ending up in some Russian-registered bulk carrier taken over by Somali pirates ). Too bad the cut-off is $100 otherwise I would have sneeked in a Carmell Jones.

Maybe the same tape that Toshiba used for their LP issue? I have one of those and it's definitely not a needle drop.
  6. Just ordered it. No brainer - once the NY to Bognor packet steamer has arrived it'll be on my racks too in a jiff..

Maybe Gigi Campi has a master - as Rearward/Schema looked as if they would be issuing it earlier in the year (and seem to have retracted for some reason).
  8. What's 'Sahib's Jazz Party' like?

  10. Head out to the Rearward/Schema website forthwith ! And take some $$. First it's gonna be back to the Atlanta used record store where I got Sax No End - they had a couple of others by the band. Better 40 years late than never.... Lots of other great things to recommend. 'All Blues' and the two Ronnie Scott's live recordings on MPS/BASF for sure. And 'All Smiles'/'More Smiles' on MPS. My faves on MPS are actually 'Latin Kaleidoscope' and 'Fellini 712'. Then there's also the Verve 'Changes of Scene' and Black Lion 'At Her Majesty's Pleasure'. Followed by the various Shihab, Boland, Bailey and Sadi projects, some of which have been reissued by Rearward Schema. Wonderful stuff !
  11. Very cool re: the Farlow jam. The nearest I got was a personalised signed flyer with a nice friendly message on it that someone fixed up for me. He must have been a great guy. Good move re: the Farlow set. You would regret it I suspect if you hadn't bought it and it went OOP. Pergatory !
  12. Can't fault that. The two teams seem to have got on very well IMO. Some of those previous team clashes could get pretty heated (and I'm thinking in particular of the era of Dennis Lillee/Jeff Thompson/Rod Marsh v T Greig & co. and the infamous Botham/Ian Chappell spat).
  13. I've got my eye on a '56 set. I'll pick it up over the next week or so. Sad news there in that email to Yves, sign of the times.

  16. Definitely a catalyst for sure - and can't fault the heartiness. However his test average with bat and ball is nothing special.
  17. Yes, I think he did leave and return before. A shame - good that his blog is up and running though.
  18. Not really - not since he capsized that pedallo whilst out of his head on booze showing off to women when on overseas tour (West Indies? can't remember). Great ambassador for the country - so of course they made him an MBE ! No subtelty in his cricket - it's literally all or nothing. That run-out was damned good though - and in retrospect, crucial. Strauss is much more a class act, as was his predecessor Vaughan. Yorkshire have a very promising young spinner called Rashid who has been hitting 1st class centuries recently - he could well be the long-term all rounder they are looking for, if not Broad. Predictably, Gordon Brown has invited them all for a photo op to bask in the reflected glory. Straight out of the pages of T. Blair. SOB !

  20. No doubt the inevitable 5-0 drubbing on Aussie soil to come in response, in 18 months time. Cheers things up over here for a few weeks though, until Gordon Brown gets back from his 'work experience' !
  21. Gilles Peterson 'Impressed Vol 1' (UK Universal, 2LPs)
  22. Yeah, it's very unfortunate for Ponting - a really great player. Very impressed yesterday with the way he spat the bust tooth out and got one with the game - also his very generous applause to the now-departing Fred Flintoff (predictably in and out very quickly - way over-rated IMO). I wish I had access to Sky TV to watch it live but I will make a drive this afternoon to someone who has. Without doubt, Strauss and (especially) Trott's steady innings yesterday made the big difference. Strauss as captain has been lucky in this match too (not least winning the toss and playing the spinners). It's a good thing we have these two South Africans in the team..
