  1. Yeah ! I'll spin some of that in his honour tonight.
  2. If I had known, I would have bought one for you, Bob. I managed to grab the Washington and the Donaldson before they disappeared... I guess you have most of the music on LPs though. Thanks - not to worry. I can live without the Donaldson as I have all of the music on vinyl (and mainly on originals), which is the reason I didn't pick one up already. After all, we have had quite a few years to think about it ! It would have been nice to have that box for the purposes of convenience though. I think I can live without the Dinah Washington. Most of the Selects that I've wanted I've managed to order too - I think I can live without Freddie Slack. Don Pullen would have been nice but like Hans I've got at least 2 of the sessions on the original CDs. Life goes on !
  3. I've just managed to 'score' a Dexter Select and a Brookmeyer Select at reasonable price. Let's hope they come through. - and looks like Big John Patton has just left 'Last Chance'.
  4. Meanwhile - Shank/Cooper and Pacific Jazz trios have just disappeared off of 'Last Chance'. Yikes
  5. Well, I just pulled a very late trigger on the Pearson, Shank/Cooper and Pacific Jazz Piano Selects. Wish I could have added a Donaldson..
  6. You may have had quite a wait to find a spot on an NHS dentist's list Allen; a lot of them gave up NHS work as it doesn't pay well. Yeah, my dentist is no longer taking on new NHS patients too. I guess you need a valid NI (National Insurance) number to be even in the frame.
  7. Lou Donaldson seems to have gone as well. Damn - I wanted that one. Can't believe it. I go on the road for two days and look what happens. Tragic..
  8. I had a new gold crown fitted the other week and it cost £190 on the NHS. They have sliding charges by treatment band now so for crowns it's considerably more expensive than it used to be. £45 for root canal looks a bargain. Had a root canal around 10 years ago - into a crown. I remember at the time it was pretty painful at the time it was done. To be honest though the temporary fix they do on crowns is probably the most annoyingly uncomfortable, when the occasional twinge of pain hits (caused by adjacent teeth touching it). Alleviated when the permanent crown goes in. The biggest work I got done was an extraction and titanium implant into the jaw and funnily enough that was the least pain of the lot (and required over 10 visits, including quite a few X-rays). That one was private (fortunately my dentist is a specialist in this area) and the end results have been at least as good as the real thing. So far, I haven't set off any metal detectors.

  10. Thanks Folks. Not yet got my Tubbs Lps but they will be in the mail later this week. At least I have 'Equation' on CD for now.
  11. That's a bargain ! They were quoting over $200 shipping to the UK when I tried when this deal was originally 'aired'. I gave up... Wow - $200. How many were you buying? I think it was about 30 in my 'basket'. Went quickly to 0.

  15. According to Tom Perchard's book the 'Both/And' engagement in San Fran was over 2 weeks in June 1970. The band headed down to play the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach after that (and recorded there for Blue Note).
  16. I'll stick with the original Complete Coltrane on Prestige big box !
  17. Sal Nistico 'Neo Nistico' (Beehive). Ted Curson on trumpet and Ronnie Matthews on piano. Doesn't get much better !

  19. Thanks Chaps ! Just acquired two original Tubby Hayes LPs as a birthday treat ('Equation In Rhythm' with Jack Constanzo and 'Palladium Date' with Cleo Laine, on Fontana) so I'm a pretty happy camper.
