  1. Sounds like a potential 'Mosaic Vinyl' project, if it was done as an audiophile 4LP set with a nice nifty booklet.
  2. They charged me for shipping for all titles I ordered including the ones they cancelled and never sent me. I have sent several e-mails to them over a week about this, both to orders@oldies.com and webmaster@oldies.com. No reply whatsoever so far and no refund. I may write more about this if it isn't rectified soon. Makes me glad I avoided the whole thing - this sucks. The shipping charges overseas were just ridiculous.
  3. Grant Green 'Live at the Lighthouse' (BN blue/white UA, 2LPs)
  4. Dill The Dog Parsley The Lion Sir Basil
  5. Thanks ! That's a nice photo of Feldman with the late Allan Ganley and Tony Crombie on the blog. A brief audio exerpt of 'Kid Krupa' in action can be heard at the beginning of the Concord LP 'The Artful Dodger'. For sure, Miles Davis' impecabble talent-spotting antennae were spot on with respect to Victor Feldman !
  6. Tootsie Dustin Hoffman Steve Hoffmann
  7. For sure. I think there's a whole secret Hank society out there, complete with funny hand-shakes and worshipping of stick-insect cover art altar friezes. If Mosaic were to do a Complete Hank 60s vinyl box, I would buy it in a flash. Aint gonna happen though - but nice to dream about.
  8. Fawn Hall Ollie North James Findlayson
  9. Definitely up there with Holland, McLaughlin, Shearing, Surman and Derek Humble !
  10. Just reading that is like being in a 1995 time machine. Aren't both of them long OOP?
  11. Captain Slow The Hamster The Stig
  12. After yesterdays shock total Aussie batting collapse at The Oval let's hope that Strauss and England hold it together and achieve a suprise test and Ashes series win in the next couple of days. The little bottle of dust is long due another stint under English glass. With a bit of luck it may be over as early as today !
  13. Clarke/Boland Big Band 'More Smiles' (UK MPS/BASF)
  14. Early morning Zap/Pow action: Sun Ra/Blues Project 'Sensational Guitars of Dan and Dale' 'Batman and Robin' (Universal Records) Freddie Hubbard 'High Blues Pressure' (Atlantic, stereo)
  15. Agreed - and there's also a good site maintained by Frank Eichler in Germany on www.westbrookjazz.de (might be of particular interest to Ubu). All Euro bases are covered !
  16. Well, I for one am grateful for the reminder of the CDs available via the Mike and Kate W. site. I often visit it to check out their up-coming gigs but a reminder was no bad thing. Like lots of people on here I rarely visit AAJ so a heads-up on this is appreciated.
  17. Noel Redding Jimi Hendrix Keef Hartley
  18. The CBC Winnipeg film actually has film of Lenny and Tal playing together in duet at a location in New Jersey. Tal's home? There's also a very fine documentary put together by Lenny's daughter with Judi Singh - 'The Genius of Lenny Breau'. Approx. 90 minutes.
  19. Up again for this one. Just been watching that CBC Winnipeg documentary about the first Chet Atkins RCA recording session and the session boss on there actually says on the film that they are going to bombard radio stations with copies of this album, with an aim to get it heard by students/young people. Guess it must have worked.
  20. Top of my list. I think I have all of his stuff on LP and CD (and most of the boots). Then it is Blakey, Mobley, Lee Morgan and Wayne Shorter. I think I only have 1 or 2 of David Murray though.
  21. Is that the guy who got to number 1 many years back with Barbara Gaskin? With the synth tied around his neck, I think. Always thought that that one getting to No. 1 was a bit of an aberation. Especially with 'Aggadoo' etc. dominating the charts at that time. Yikes !
  22. Roger Riskin Spear Viv Stanshall Vernon Dudley Bohay-Nowell
  23. Great record, Sidewinder! I've had it on Prestige vinyl since the sixties. Totally agree. I have it on CD in the Eric Dolphy box but the Esquire LP is a treat, sonically !
  24. The 'dead hand' of this lot in action, yet again. Come the revolution.... etc. etc. The UK media has never done jazz any favours. The sole exception being that phase in the 1980s when it was half-way cool with the likes of Sade in the charts' Lasted all of 5 minutes after a few jazzy TV commercials seling lager. Funny as it is, that 'Fast Show' comedy sketch pretty well sums up the attitude of 99% of the UK listening public to jazz and anything challenging in terms of improvisation. I think there's allways been a more open and healthier attitude to modern jazz in particular on the Continent - young people are prepared to give it a listen and are more receptive. It's not automatically labelled with the 'awkward squad' - especially in Germany and the Benelux countries. Hence the reason why the likes of Mike Westbrook, Nucleus etc. spent so much time touring there in the 1970s and 80s. Our eternal loss.
