  1. This series were almost Tone Poets before Tone Poets were ever invented. Minus the fancy gatefolds.
  2. That was one of the ones that suddenly disappeared on the ‘Friday night of the long knives’ I think. Remember finding a copy at HMV London a few days later, with relief.
  3. Columbia - in connection with the other thread.
  4. Yes, that’s right. Very sadly, Judi passed away last year, she was very prominent as a jazz singer in Edmonton over that 70s-90s period. In more recent years she relocated/ retired to Victoria, BC I believe. That early CBC MOR LP with Tommy Banks is a real collector’s item, although it was reissued I believe on vinyl, a couple of years ago. I saw her perform on a number of occasions, one of which I recall was a quartet featuring trombonist Julian Priester. By coincidence I was spinning that ‘For Sure’ album last night and have always enjoyed the Judi Singh tracks (Shaw played Edmonton in the late 70s so that arrangement must have resulted in an invite to participate in the album). In fact thinking about it, Michael Cuscuna’s notes in the Mosaic booklet confirm this.
  5. Maybe it is an inner city thing then - or more specifically Manchester and London ? I’m surprised to hear this, as there has been nothing on my list for months now which hasn’t been fulfilled. One exception - spicy red peppers last week but hardly a deprivation and a very easy substitution.
  6. Not a situation that I recognise one bit, to be honest. I have a fairly regular list of staples and with no notable exceptions, have been able to get everything without fail for some months now. Not Sainsbury’s though.
  7. No shortages that I’ve noticed here.
  8. Pure Pleasure have been doing a stellar job with those vinyl Strata-East reissues. I’ve just got hold of the Tolliver Slug’s and ‘Loosdrecht’.
  9. Earlier - Xanadu I think he recorded for Storyville (or was it Sonet?) in the 70s but it was a brief comeback.
  10. Must have seen David Williams at least 10 times with Cedar Walton - and most of those with Billy Higgins ! Now up - Stereo green label deep groove.
  11. Didn’t Chewy track down their HQ location on an old thread?
  12. Interesting - I’d recognised Wofford and Chuck Findley but just couldn’t place it. Even suspected that it was something on Discovery. Grrr !
  13. I had a strong hunch it was Teddy Edwards. Garcia draws a blank with me though.
  14. NY, mono Yep, saw that band playing many of the tracks on Eastern Rebellion 2 but with David Williams in place of Sam Jones.
  15. The CD medium really came into its own for Mosaic on those gargantuan Basie Studio and Maynard Fergusson Roulette sets. Hernia-inducing on LP !
  16. I always remember an episode of BBC ‘Sounds of Jazz’ back in the 70s (1977-ish) where he was due to be interviewed by Peter Clayton in London and never turned up, having gone AWOL in the city. As I recall it, not much had been heard from him over here for many years, he had recently made a recording comeback and the radio interview was eagerly anticipated.
  17. Stealth Kenny Wheeler and Derek Bailey on the second (unissued) film soundtrack, from 1971.
  18. Wouldn’t be George Arvanitas, would it?
  19. Track 9 sounds like Frank Foster. With a very Harold Mabern-ish piano. Live performance - Europe?
  20. Bring it on ! More than happy with CDs and LPs. Never got into purchasing downloads and in general I use Spotify to check out albums I am unfamiliar with. CDs over the last decade or so have been a bargain. In contrast to the price-gouging (especially here in the UK) in the younger days of the medium. It used to be £15 and up here back in the early 90s !
  21. Frank Foster?
  22. CDs 4-7. Roof-raisingly brilliant.
  23. There’s three volumes I think - I have copies of all 3.
