  1. Count me in as another who really likes this session. I was bemused that it has got such lukewarm reviews - commercially sounding and 'of its time' yes but a sterling effort by Mesrs Henderson and Gasca. Nicely recorded too.
  2. John Surman 'Morning Glory' (Island pink label)
  3. I'm jealous. Enjoy !
  4. Grant Green 'Visions' (BN Liberty blue/black stereo) Ike Quebec 'It Might as Well Be Spring' (BN NY USA stereo)
  5. Art Blakey 'Mosaic' (BN NY USA mono). A fitting title !
  6. What about that Little Jimmy and his Liverpudlian ditty. Jeez, I never receovered from hearing that..
  7. Looks like it's OOP (the 'Flexi' that is). "Also included are Tantalising Tina, Rosey and Nobby, Sonias Sex Diary, Folky Fenella from Dorset ( ) whose real name is Eydie.." Me wants !
  8. Birthday Greetings !
  9. First impressions listening to this are that Braxton's alto sounds much more coherent and all-round than during the concert. The stage mikes obviously didn't pick it up very well (sounded a bit muffled at the time). Those effects that William Parker got out of the bass are just extraordinary..
  10. The lineup for tonight's BBC performance: "Cecil Taylor Quartet featuring Anthony Braxton, recorded in concert at the Royal Festival Hall, London on Sunday 8th June 2007 Line-up: Cecil Taylor - piano William Parker - double bass Tony Oxley - drums Anthony Braxton - contrabass clarinet, alto sax, soprano sax, sopranino sax Set list: Duet - Cecil Taylor / Tony Oxley Quartet - Cecil Taylor / William Parker / Tony Oxley / Anthony Braxton" 15 minutes to go..
  11. 'Tenor Madness' is hard to beat.
  12. That one track is worth the price of admission. Fantastic !
  13. I'm inclined to agree in this instance. What they played in the last 5 minutes was un-toppable. Fitting point to end it.
  14. In retrospect, it's hard to believe there was a time when Phil Collins could have been involved in such a cool record. Don't let Aric...er..."Chewy" see this post... Up for Chewy. :rsmile:
  15. John Cameron Quartet 'Off Centre' (Deram, mono). With Harold McNair.
  16. Originally on Japanese East Wind (direct cut). Very nice album !
  17. Ian Carr's Nucleus 'Alley Cat' (Vertigo) Michael Garrick 'Home Stretch Blues' (Argo stereo)
  18. I've got it on the Vocalion CD but I really must pick up that vinyl. Find the last track a bit 'routine' though.
  19. Spyro Gyra (of course), Earl Klugh, Donald Byrd (Backbyrds vintage), John Klemmer, Return To Forever/Chick (post-ECM), Stanley Clarke, Acker Bilk.
  20. With the Ornettes I have given up on the vinyl and go for the 'Beauty Is A Rare Thing' CD set. Heresy, I know..
  21. Mike Westbrook 'Tyger' (RCA Red Seal)
  22. Check out the sleeve note Clifford with Mr Trunk saying how he picked up that Argo 'Cold Mountain' for £3 in a London back street Classical Music shop. Those days are long gone, alas.
  23. Thanks for the confirmation !
  24. Looks like they have jacked up the prices quite a bit. Some of mine were 'seconds'/spares but once framed you wouldn't know it at all - they were a great deal. The others I picked up at an exhibition some years ago in London - the Shorter is marked up 1/150 in the print run and the Coltrane is 11/150 I think. They did a very fine job with the framing/matting. Still, that picture of Hank is pretty damn nice..
