  1. Secret Eight: take an iconic masterpiece like KOB, Moby Dick or 'Guernica' and write down how stupid and overrated and mediocre is, you gain an instant attention from your friends and collegues.
  2. Welcome to the Club! Now spinnin: Archie Shepp - MAMA TOO TIGHT - Impulse! WLP MOOONOOOO.
  3. THE NEW WAVE OF JAZZ - Impulse! WLP mono, Trane, Ayler, Moncur, Shepp...
  4. Wayne Shorter - JUJU - BN NY mono, one of my Shorter's fave.
  5. So many great characters in his career, from Billy The Kid to Butch Cassidy, from Fast Eddie Felsen to Cold Hand Luke, too many to name here. He really was the MAN. RIP
  6. Yep, I got the very same problem...and without this thread I'd had never known that a heated argument about who is more overrrated, Norah Jones or Bobby Humphrey is going on. Thanks folks!
  7. You like beer too much, that doesn't fit.
  8. MAJOR Small Faces freak here. Yeah, and this record smokes!! Now spinning: Wayne Shorter - ALL THE SEEING EYE - BN NY mono.
  9. Small Faces - SMALL FACES - Decca, mono.
  10. Jimmy Smith - THE SERMON - BN NY mono
  11. The Sound Of Jimmy Smith, BN 1556, 47 west mono.
  12. Good one Chris. Hey, this is the way of the world. I'm fascinated by antiquity. I cannot even begin to fully imagine all the marvels lost forever. . . . It's been said many times before, but this is what you get when you live in a throwaway society/culture. True, look at the old Yankee Stadium, I mean if a guy like me would visit NYC, a hot dog during a match would have been a highlight.
  13. Gabor Szabo - Jazz Raga - Impulse! mono
  14. ...or have a cat who thinks it's great fun to jump down from a bookcase and play "spin the furball"... The only solution at this problem is buying a 160 GB Ipod...and sell all your records at sale price to forum members who keep the cats outside the room of the TT.
  15. The King is very good - but the New York mono deep groove version is better I think. Well, that's my personal preference. Thanks SW, I'll spin it after dinner.
  16. I roughly agree too, though good turntables will last forever with a minimum maintenaince and care, if you don't throw them on the staircase... I mean you change oils and filters and tyres also at your Toyota, don't you?
  17. If you go for new, the usual names: Rega, Pro-Ject, Thorens, Music Hall. Most of them come fully equipped, cartridge and tonearm, often as 'promotional price' at least in Italy. I would check them out at you local shop. If you can afford it check also the entry level Linn and VPI. The Technics is a tank, perfect for heavy duty DJs and Turnatblists, but IMHO you pay for this, rather then sound accuracy and beauty.
  18. My biggest issue is that is not easy to bend it back, I mean we are talking about micron precision, not millimeter, so what about if isn't perfectly center? I presume that an off centered stylus isn't friendly with records, considering that is a 2 grams tracking force. And what about suspension? A damaged one couldn't allow a correct tracking of the groove, another potential risk for records. I am really scare of it, that would be a awful nightmare. About a loan, don't think so, maybe I'll buy a cheap MM cartridge, let's say 50/80 dollars, waiting for the baby being fixed, or just spin cds, that could be the chance to dig into RCA Ellington huge and scaring box set.
  19. I second Chris, lasers are much cheaper then inkjets in term of autonomy. And, if you're not using the printer for while, a laser will work better since the first page, inkjets have the problem of dried ink. BTW I have a laser Xerox Phaser 6110 that works as 'xerox' and scanner too, actually you could have it with a fax option. edit: Dang! I realized it's 'Out Of Print' The new one is this http://www.office.xerox.com/printers/color...-6130/enus.html Consider that I bought it one and half year ago, I used it a lot and I didn't replaced the toner yet. My old Epson, inkjet, costed me a fortune of cartridges per year. Inkjets really beat budget lasers on photographic paper prints, if you need great quality on this stuff.
  20. McCoy Tyner - Today and Tomorrow - Impulse! mono McCoy Tyner - Nights of Ballads and Blues - Impulse! mono, WLP
  21. Price of Blue Note vinyl stock went through the floor too, as well as AIG, HBOS, Lehman etc.? Don't think so: I was watching at an auction for Rollins' 'Plays For Byrd', Prestige 50th NY label and it went over 400 $
  22. I guess that roughly 99 per cent of 'civilized' life consist in such bothering BS, let me think about it...
  23. Randy Weston - LITTLE NILES - UA .......mono.
  24. Damn! I discover this just after the bastards at Wall Street butchered my billions.
  25. Ok, I talked with my doctor. Basically she said that if I am ok with glasses e/o contact lens, she didn't see any valid reasons for going under surgery, considering my age and the inevitable risk, though small, of any sugery. Now, since I have to replace old glasses I accept suggestions. I was thinking about something like these:
