They were a boring rock band by then, IMHO. Don't let this discourage you from picking up the good stuff. You were right, a boring rock band.

An answer for all the posts: 1) I do care about enviroment, so I said only that usually big screen TV's are power consuming. As JLarsen said Inch for Inch LCD is similar to CRT, true, but the trend is going for biggest screen. Household appliances, at least in Italy and in EU, is certified with a scale from A to F for power efficiency. When I have to buy any of them, computer and printer included, I look at the power consuming too, and, if I can, I buy the best energy saving stuff. 2) You're free to use big screens, computer and huge tubed power amp and leave all the stuff switched on all days. And pay the electricity bills. I tend to switch off all the stuff when I am not using it, even plugged off, because I do care about enviroment. For the same reason I don't leave my Hi-Fi system always hooked on, though most of the components have a stand by position. Maybe it will sound worse for the first hour, but I can bear it. 3) About car, I use it once a week for the big shopping at grocery's market, daily I use a motorbike or I walk. My car is not an hybrid, but considering that I scarcely use it, IMO buying a more efficient car would be more power consuming then keep my old car. I mean that producing and building my new car would use much more energy that I would use in the next twenty years with my old car. 4) A little saving of energy multiplied for several hundred millions, roughly the industrialized countries' population, would save million of oil's barrells. 5) In rich and industrialized countries I don't buy the argument that my energy consuming is less then yours, so I DESERVE to consume more energy, aka my computer is better then your SUV. You shouldn't buy SUV as well as big power consuming stuff. If you have to, or if you like it, or if you need it, I think you should use them with responsability and be aware of what are you doing or buying. period

Did the aliens steal it? I sold around 15,000 lps a few years ago to finance some cd reissues of my catalog starting with the Art Ensemble Box. Last week I found it "free" for download on one of the "Blogger" sites. Good to see the music has such fine fans. Sorry to hear it, I fully understand your commitment about copyrights issues that you showed in the forum several times. I mean that nobody likes to be robbed. You have my fully support.

You only need three albums: Face to Face, Something Else, and The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society. While I generally go for vinyl, I would seek out CD releases of these that contain bonus tracks. (Ray was VERY prolific for a while there). You're asking me really something: cd instead of vinyl...not sure I could. Actually I have the live "One For The Road". I'll give it a try tomorrow.

I was being ironic. Dude! Take it easy. I try to avoid youtube because I got trapped in the labyrinth...and from Crosby I can surf all the sixties...and suddenly it's four a.m. and I am drunk. No good for my health and my working day. I've been there. Try watching this stuff at work while your on the clock, so you can get a good night's sleep. I work as film editor, no youtube at work.

I don't want to be unpleasant, but, generally speaking, most of the big screens are huge power consuming, low efficiency hardware. Thinks about it if you care about enviromental issues.

The Kinks is one of the many black holes in my musical culture. Love the Small Faces, though. In general, a part few exceptions I tend to catalogue classic rock bands and musicians by ages: there are some rooted in the early sixties, some in the late, then Punk: Clash, Televison ecc wiped all away. It doesn't mean that there aren't crossing eras musicians: Dylan, Young, Pink Floyd, The Stones and some others, but...my two cents. Obviously there are a lot of interesting music beyond that. I mean the late Who are zombies' crap compared to early Talking Heads or The Buzzcocks, or The Smiths or Joy Division, but My Generation or Live At Leeds...well...my other two cents...and it makes four cents. I spent too much for one post.

All the forum's members are kidnapped by aliens now and then, that's the reason the time stopped. Ask Chuck for the experiments the aliens use to do on forum's members.

Funniest album title ever, considering the artist. For sure underrated at times, and probably the best of the so called "west coast" sound in retrospect IMHO. Now spinnin CSNY FOUR WAY STREET Japan Atlantic pressing. DC definitely has his moments, but he was also inconsistent, as his version of "Hey Joe" at Monterey attests. I wasn't at Monterey, my parents didn't allowed me to go, (as 5 y/o child I couldn't get a passport, nor the money for the flying ticket. ). I just always found IICORMN fascinating: a pure essence of freedom from the past (Byrds) and the present/future (CSN&Y).

Damn, my next coming TT will have a clamp. Never thought about this.

I basically like all the albums, that I have in vinyl, from "The Who Sings My Generation", (gorgeous mono Brunswick pressing) to Quadrophenia (Uk Track pressing). I understand your points about Tommy and Quadrophenia, I totally agree with Shawn about Who's Next, desert island record. I totally disagree with you about the sound, at least on my vinyls. Love it. IMHO.

Definitely, just plug your Mp3 player and drive.

8th November, a scorpion, you're going to facing a tought and marvellous job. Congrats! Is it still a tradition to offer cigars for a birth in U.S.?

I think that, overall, as "western" or "civilized" or "rich", call us whatever you want, we lost the capability of big dreamin: a better future, space travelling, ecc. I mean that science maded huge progress since I was a boy in every fields: medicine, physic, computers, communication, but we lost hope for Biggest Global Achivements. I look at my 18 y/o stepson and his friends and I feel that they suffered our lost of hope, they have minimal goals: a secure job, a house, a decent living standard. I know that this is far to be accomplished by poor countries, but still I suffered for our sons. Probably we are simply facing the decline of our old world and the future owns to China, India and the so called "developping countries". Anyway I am a bit sad I will not spend holyday on Mars's Holyday Inn during my lifetime.

That's a good reccomendation.

When I was a young boy I imagined the future like Kubrick's 2001 or Dick's novels, it depended on the mood. Now we are in 2007, we still deep rooted in the earth, wasting natural resources and engaged in any sort of religious wars... My god, I really need a good psychiatrist. ...or I will have some joints and spin some Jefferson Airplane's records...

Attention Vinyl Freaks: Bitches Brew in Last Chance
porcy62 replied to Ron S's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Mosaic vinyl's quality is generally good and, overall fairly priced. I mean 18 bucks each plus the booklet is ok. And their customer service is top quality, just in case you got a defective record. BTW I have other Miles' sets on cd, the ones who are not realased by Mosaic obviously , and the mastering is not such bad. -
Well, the Mighty God of Rock'n Roll should condemn you to one hundred thousand years of Purgatory because of your blaspheme analogy. Some sort of Ludovico cure where you are forced to watch all the 80's videos: from Duran Duran to Back Street Boys. Porcy, Have you heard the two albums in question? I really don't think my comparison is that off the mark. Guy Not at all, I was only joking. Though in general I dislike most of the brit pop of the eighties, an era with good producers and bad/fake musicians and composers, a part few exceptions IMHO, so maybe you're right. I'll look for these album in my used record shop because "Astral Weeks" is one of my fave record.
