  1. I agree with Claude: at least in Europe a good old Thorens IS the way to go. I had a long and happy relationship with a TD 166 with a Sumiko Blue Point before my today's Linn.
  2. ...or Hell, it depends on how much addicted you will be and on how many pops and clicks on your latest ebay bargain
  3. I've got the original with its cover Maybe the original stamps or the address handwritten by Mingus will raise the price
  4. Welcome to the Delta House Fraternity Did you place your TT on some dedicated stand?
  5. Dvorak Symphonies, London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Rowicki, Philips
  6. I think they should cancel it because of the howful match they played with Italy, and I am not a believer of greatness of today's italian team. Even more if you consider that our best player, Totti, is out for a serious accident.
  7. The Elligton Era 1927/1940 Volume 1, Columbia Box set
  8. Donald Byrd At Half Note Cafe 1 43 West, mono
  9. I always used poly inner sleeves similar to the early Mosaic or Mobile Fidelity Original Master Sleeve. I bought them from Acoustic Sound, just placed some pack in the vinyl orders. Now they discontinued it. Have you got a good source for buying them on the web, or similar sleeves?
  10. W. A. Mozart Early Symphonies, Berliner Philarmoniker, K. Boehm. DG
  11. When I was reading the interview I realized that I am not a "collector", because I play my records. A good news for my analist, he has to cure my obsession about high heels and women's legs only.
  12. Beethoven's Piano Concertos, Barenboim/Klemperer EMI. What I found unbeatable about music is that there is always a perfect record for your mood, from Ayler to Zappa, from Pink Floyd to Brahms, from Nusrath to Bach, from Miles to...
  13. Mahler Symphony 3, Decca, London Symphony Orchestra/Solti
  14. Just found in my sister's garage some old classical records, Decca, DG, ecc. The nicest is a first stereo pressing of Beethoven's symphonies where Karajan conduct Berliner Philarmoniker, the 1962 Karajan recording, the best of his Beethoven. After a hard cleaning they are still gorgeous. I dare any digital supporters to store for more then twentyfive years some cds in a humid vault full of building material.
  15. I love this band, most of the tracks are like movies, you are in another place, another time. I am asking myself if I am the only fanatic here.
  16. I'm not trying to cast aspersions, but how can you tell that's an original pressing? It probably went through scores of repressings within weeks of issue. MG True, but I assume that: 1) I didn't burn it from a cd 2) I didn't download it 3) It's a 1841 Broadway label 4) It sounds gorgeous 5) It's not a cassette 6) It's not a bootleg 7) It's not a later reissue Now, tell me: Did I say it's a 'original first' pressing?
  17. LED ZEPPELIN III Atlantic US original pressing
  18. Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers MEET YOU AT THE JAZZ CORNER OF THE WORLD 2 , 47 west stereo
  19. Don't know about Telarc, my 'classical age' was earlier then that, late sixties, early seventies, my father's influence, at that time 'the' labels were DG and Decca. And the guys were Karajan, Solti, Giulini, Gilels, Klemperer. For a bizarre short circuit of my brain I always associated the greatest performances of classical music with 'cold war'. I should visit an analist for it.
  20. Obviously there are some rare pressings and titles, but the average prices are good, I mean that mint original UK Decca or german Deutsche Grammophon are usually well under 15/20 bucks, and the box sets cost less then 5 buck for LP. They are even cheaper if you consider reissues instead of early pressings. The pressing quality is generally very good, and used records are generally well cared by previous owners. So you can find classical music on vinyl at the same price of new cd. At least in my experience.
  21. Don't know if you're interested, but Sundazed reissued the first three JA records in mono from the original master tapes on 180 gr vinyl. I have Surrealistic and it sounds ok. I didn't listen to the new remastered cd, I have most of the original Lps, Probably I should check them out again in term of sound quality, but I am too lazy for it, otherwise I could post on SHoffman forum. About Crosby's, try to listen to a good original pressing, 1841 Broadway, it blew out, and will probably ever do, every attempt to reduce it to a series of '0' and '1'.
  22. Hey, two wheels good, four wheels bad! I think George something-or-other said that in a book called "Motoring Farm" or something... Actually I have two bikes, so it makes four wheels, but I think it's twice 'good'
  23. Does old motorbike count? I have an old BMW R65, named 'Old Betsie' from my son.
  24. Freddie Hubbard BACKLASH Atlantic Mingus THE CLOWN Atlantic blk label mono
