VIDEO: Boris Rose interviewed by Dan Morgenstern
Hardbopjazz replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous Music
A friend and myself have contacted the Thelonius Monk Institute and they will try to contact Rose' daughter to see what it will take to aquire the collection. If the Thelonius Monk Institute is able to get a hold of this, I don't know what that will do. I bet the collection will sit somewhere do to legal reasons. But at least my friend was told, they will make an effort to obtain the collection. -
Ah. I missed that thread.

It's always a real treat when a new Dexter Gordon recording is found and released. It is his 89th birthday. I will be getting this one. Dexter Gordon - Night Ballads: Montreal 1977 CD CD Universe

Happy birthday

Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed the music. None of the music has ever been commercially released. I felt like doing a blind fold test of music that exists that no one would have heard. In fact I could offer the complete sets from each track if someone wants. As for track 8, I feel akin to this one for some reason.

Happy brithday.

What do you think this quote means?
Hardbopjazz replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Possible. I agree you need to learn as much as you can as a musician but then throw it all out the window doesn't jive with me. -
Christian Mcbride said this in the BBC Sonny Rollins special. "To be a great jazz musician you need to learn eveything, and once you learn it, you need to forget it."
-
I am watching this on line right now. Wow!!!! You will need the software from the BBC to watch the gig. http://download.cnet.com/Expat-Shield/3000-2092_4-75211377.html And the videos are here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01c30k0/Arena_Sonny_Rollins_74_Rescued!/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01c30jy/Arena_Sonny_Rollins_Beyond_the_Notes/
