  1. Too many. Every year it is too many.
  2. Same here, before this thread, I never heard of her. Now reports are saying she had flu-like symptoms for the past few days.
  3. Bird was at his zenith in 47' and 48'. I have the recordings from the Onyx club, which are from either April or September. Not sure of the actual month. I've seen both months listed. But I believe this is the only recording either studio or live from 48'. I think there may have been a musician's strike around this time, but despite the poor sound, Bird is brilliant on all these sets. The takes on the live music, albeit not much longer in length then a studio take, exhibits why other musicians saw him as their prophet.
  4. I have both of these. I remember when the Washington concert was first released I listened to the LP over and over. This one I don't have, and with two thumbs up, I will attempt track it down.
  5. Of all the live recordings of Charlie Parker discovered over the years, what are your favorites? Try not to take into account the fidelity of the recording, but just the pure genius of Bird's playing.
  6. I have to admit, I might have gotten tempted too. Paid for Not Showing Up Anthony Armatys is facing up to six years in prison for his dumb move. But he's not the only dummy in this story. Armatys accepted a job in 2002 with telecom equipment maker Avaya but then changed his mind before he started. He was already in the payroll system however, and the company started depositing his six-figure salary into his checking account. For five years, Armatys did not notify Avaya of its error, but his attempt to make an early withdrawal from his 401(k) prompted an investigation that led to his arrest. In October Armatys pleaded guilty to theft and was ordered to repay the $470,995.53 in compensation he received. He faces full sentencing in January. Story
  7. Jacques Cousteau Jane Goodall Dian Fossey
  8. WOW! This is a great upgrade. The board is flying through each section.
  9. lower left cabinet, silly! those folks are no doubt limber. Aha ! Even some space for the Mosaic boxes.. :rsmile: I can't tell if they are really Mosaic sets.
  10. The one thing I just noticed, that just about all the knickknacks in the place are bottles containing alcohol. Just look at the shelving between the windows and all the bottles of wine. They can drown their sorrows when they say, "Oh, what did we get ourselves into?"
  11. A few years ago we had London, http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...ondon+apartment Now, NYC. The Prokops hold a tape measure across their tiny Manhattan apartment. The couple has come up with a creative lifestyle to fit into their microstudio apartment. NY Post Where do you eat and cook?
  12. These pop into my mine. Sadly there were many more. Blossom Dearie Les Paul Dick Katz Rashied Ali Soupy Sales ( not a jazz musician, but a long supporter of jazz).
  13. Wow, I'm pretty sure I see myself in the photo. Two behind you Michael, the one without any hair. Thanks for posting.
  14. Wow, my topic disappeared. Anyway, my question was a simple one. I listened to about 30 to 40 Count Basie sessions, and not one does Freddie Green ever solo. On one Count says, "This tune will feature our guitarist" and all Freddie Green does is play cord at the end of the tune. Even his one session as a leader he doesn't solo. Did he ever take a solo on record? If yes, what is that record?
  15. Cy Young Ty Cobb Chipper Jones
  16. I learned to always shake the CD before I buy it. If the CD is moving around in the case, the teeth are broken.
  17. There is just 5 still with us from that wonderful photo entitled "A Great Day In Harlem." It was just amazing how many musicians were able to get up to take the photo in the first place. Maybe a lot of them were still up from the night before.
  18. Anyone here attend the concert? I am going to see him on December 6th in Tarrytown NY. I am looking forward to 2010, Sonny says he may do a trio album. Sonny of old will return.
  19. It is actually a blues about viagra. Lou says, I am going to rap to you about the blue pill.
  20. The late set Saturday the band played this. This was recorded from someone in the audience. Close to the Wednesday's night set I saw. I guess it is basically the same tunes over and over but, a new set of same tunes. 1) L-O-V-E (12:10) 2) Everything Happens to Me (10:52) 3) Gravytrain (10:45) 4) I Almost Lost My Mind > (1:43) 5) "Lou's Viagra rap" > (2:14) 6) Whiskey Drinkin' Woman (5:17) 7) Band Intros (1:44) 8) Secret Love (12:23) 9) Things Ain't What They Used to Be (8:15) 10) Tenor Madness (3:51)
  21. This is what was played. Gravytrain Everything Happens to Me Caravan Now’s the Time Lou's Viagra rap Whiskey Drinkin' Woman Stella By Starlight Secret Love Don’t Get Around Much Anymore Tenor Madness
  22. I was pleasantly surprise to hear a entirely different set list from him last week. It was wonderful, he only repeated one tune that he always plays, "Whiskey Drinking." Thanks Lou, you can still play beautifully at 83.
  23. How many sessions for Billy Higgins?
  24. Pat La Fontaine Bryan Trottier Denis Potvin
  25. This question was asked many moons ago on this board. The answer was Billy Higgins. I can't locate the old thread. Maybe someone else can find it.
