  1. So far I've been on Cannonball Adderley in my collection. This a great test to see if you really like an artist. Nothing but the same artists can start to bother you. I am finding it hard to really listen liek I normally would.
  2. YES, I MEANT IT WAS WITH STRINGS.
  3. Yes, it was with strings.
  4. I found myself digging the muzak playing at work just now. I was playing some Cannonball Adderley. When the CD finished I heard this tune over the speakers in the ceiling tiles. I started listening for some reason I then realized it was a cover of Lee Morgan's "The Sidewinder". It was like Velveeta cheese, not really jazz but still Lee Morgan. Anyone else ever heard some hardbop melted down like this?
  5. There could be worse addictions then buying CD's and rare LP's. I could collect vintage cars or stamps. CD's are more fun. Good for the soul.
  6. Smoke has Steve Davis Quintet with · Eric Alexander and Harold Mabern. Pat Martino is at Birdland. Ron Carter at the Blue Note. I would see Ron Carter.
  7. I remember a year or so ago reading that the widow of Blue Mitchell received 2 checks each for 50 thousand. Intel had used Mitchell's Fungii Mama in a TV ad. Then I recall reading on the Blue Note site, asking for help to locate the estates of some artists. Some of these artists have children that are in the music industry. I recall Don Cherry being one of the names. Isn't Eagle Eye Cherry his son. Maybe Eagle Eye isn't the aire his dad's estate.
  8. Thundering. No rain yet. But the sky is black as can be.
  9. How royalties don’t get to the artist. This is Jutta Hipp as written on Allmusic. I pretty sure there are others. Do you know of any others? ...She lost contact with the music world to the extent that Blue Note didn't know where her royalties should be sent until 2000. Three years later, at the age of 78, Jutta Hipp passed away in the Queens apartment where she lived alone.
  10. I've started this today. I am also going to give each record a rating of 1 to 100, 100 bing the highest of course. Music Collector has a field for this.
  11. I can do this. I have everything entered in Music Collector and I have dates. This would also force me to listen to music by styles. I would start with Bop to post bop and fusion. I think I would like to break it up by styles.
  12. I looked at my profile and I post the most in the Miscellaneous Music at 42%. Too bad you can't see the break down from all your posts.
  13. I've tried this approach. But I end up always breaking it. I find I still leave off stuff I haven't listen to in a while. I realized I have many CD's that I've listen to on'y on the day that I bought them. And it's not due to a dislike of the CD, they just became orphans among a ever growing collection.
  14. The listen to him first was the best. A woman's thoughts and conversation isn't as important as his.
  15. I can listen at work. I usually go through about 5 or 6 CD's a day. This woul dbe the best way for me.
  16. You lost me with that that sentence. I was with you up to then. B) Let's try this again. I’ll get through let’s say the letter K and I’ll buy some new Miles Davis and then what, I’ll have to start again from the beginning.
  17. I do have some Adams. I'll have to start with him.
  18. You’re probably right. I know what will happen, I’ll get through let’s say the letter K and I’ll buy some Miles Davis and then what, I’ll have to start again from the beginning.
  19. I have an old copy of this and I love it. I hope the RVG will bring out better sound.
  20. Has anyone here every tried to listen to his or her collection from A-Z? I mean listen though your whole collection without repeating any recordings. I plan on trying this. I will start with Cannonball Adderley and go all the way to the Z's. There are some recordings I might have listened to only once since I've bought them. This came about after hearing a recording on the radio. I wrote down the title and said, I have to get this. When I went home I realized I already had it. I can only remember listening to it the day I bought it, and never after that. By doing this I hope to discover some other gems I’ve forgoten about.
  21. Thanks, this helps a lot.
  22. Yeah, but I still like this board the most. It has the most activity of all the boards out there, and the better threads.
  23. Where do you get 52? I see 54.
  24. Does anyone knoe what key is the Tenor Sax in? How about Trombone? I know the Trumpet is B flat. I'm working on an idea that came to me and want to write out the parts for Tenor and Trombone.
  25. Still looks like 52.
