  1. I'm a big Wes Montgomey fan. I saw an album called "Almost Forgotten" which I never heard of before. Is this a compilation album or an album of its own?
  2. I heard this tune over the internet. Not sure who the trumpet player was. Does anyone have any ideas? The station gave just the tittle and nothing more.
  3. How hard was it for Mercer Ellington to live under the shadow of his fathers name and success? He did have some success, but nothing like his father.
  4. I remember reading once Alfred Lion wanted to sell Blue Note and go out on the road as Jimmy Smith road Manager. I wonder if Jimmy was the same way 40 years ago, or has hitting the bottle made him what he is today? I can’t see Alfred and him working out. Both are so opposite of each other.
  5. Just read Oscar Peterson's book. I liked it. Now I don't know what to pick next. Any suggestions?
  6. He did you the F word at least 5 times during the show. When the show was done he sat there for about 30 seconds while the band looked very confused. He turned to the drummer and said, "I don't want to play no more. Help me off the stage." The show ended very strange.
  7. Jimmy seems to interact differently with the audience then other artists. Saw Jimmy Smith and he even yelled at me. I was sitting right up front by the stage. I was looking directly at him and after the tune was done he yelled to me, "What the hell you looking at?" He did have a drink on stage. I guess old habits are hard to stop. But he did put on a great show. Still worth seeing.
  8. It happened to me as well. I bought Art Blakey's Ritual and I got Bud Powell's The Scene Changes. With mine, Ritual was OOP and they didn't have a replacement. CheapCD's did give me credit though.
  9. What we need then is an atomic clock. sync it uo with ebay's clock and have a bid placed 1 second before the end.
  10. Jazz drummer Walter Perkins, who played with such greats as Charles Mingus, Sonny Rollins and Ahmad Jamal, died Feb. 14. He was 72. The cause was lung cancer, said his wife, Barbara Perkins. Born in Chicago, he was a leader of the jazz group MJT + 3, which recorded a self-titled album in 1959. After the group disbanded in 1962, Perkins moved to New York and began playing with musicians such as Mingus, Jamal, Gene Ammons and Carmen McRae. He appeared on dozens of albums; one of his most recent appearances was with William Parker, with whom he recorded "Bob's Pink Cadillac" (2002). In the 1970s and 1980s he taught drum classes at Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn. He lived in Queens and continued to teach and play in local clubs until shortly before his death.
  11. Now made it very clear Rooster. Thanks.
  12. Has anyone ever bought from this place? Found somethings I've been looking for there. Never knew they were put out on CD until I found them there.
  13. ...and be suspended or banned from eBay. Yes true. But $10,000 is too much for an LP.
  14. I've used dustygroove and have had luck finding what I want. Can someone tell me of other sites where I can hunt for old jazz LP's?
  15. Roster, when auction ended, there only 2 bids. Mine which was the opening, and this other person. He made have thrown in a very high bid. I don't think I can put in a $10,000 bid. I would have the fear that he would do the same with a $9,000 bid. I guess I could always refuse to buy the item.
  16. I'm baffled. I lost another auction. I was the only bidder till less then 10 seconds. The opening bid was $15 for an OOP Argo LP. I made a max bid of $26 for it. There was less then 10 seconds left and someone, with just one bid beat me out. How can you defend against sniping or whatever. Now the winner had over 1500 auctions to his name. Maybe there is a fine art to this. I refreshed with just over 10 seconds left and I was still the only bidder. The next thing I know, the auction ended and I was not the winner.
  17. This is true. I had placed bids on 2 LP with a starting price of 4.99. I made a max bid of 24 dollars for both. Went to bed with 1 hour to go and both were still at 4.99. When I woke up, I lost both. Wait till they appear next time. I'll hold my bidding till the end.
  18. I am wondering what went wrong with this session that it never made it? The one track that did make it sure sounds like it was ahead of its time. It was more of an R&B sound.
  19. When bidding on something you see on Ebay, what's the best way to increase your chances of winning? Is making a high bid better then waiting to the last moment to make a bid? I recently made to high bids, the most I was willing to pay for albums, and when the auction ended for both, I lost out. Someone came in with less the 2 minutes and out bid me on both items. This leads me to believe, waiting till the end would give you a better chance of winning. Does anyone have an opinion on this?
  20. Can anyone tell more about this organ player?
  21. I remember in 96 or 97 calling in to buy the Larry Young set. I was told there were no more. 3 days later 1 arrived. 3233. I guess in this case the license ran out so they stopped selling the set.
  22. My first sets were Larry Young and Grant Green/Sonny Clark. Both great sets.
  23. Rollins will perform free at Lincoln Center Out of Doors on August 10th. It will be worth seeing one of the last giants of jazz. I know it is months away, but I am checking out the spot where I will sit.
