  1. CurFu? Curfew? Curt Fu? This name stuff is dizzying my innards! FuCur? Meet the FuCurs?
  2. What do you think of the Henderson book? I've had a chance to browse through it and it looks pretty well done....
  3. This may be unrelated, but there's this 2001 reissue: The Jazz Scene: San Francisco (Fantasy) "THE JAZZ SCENE: SAN FRANCISCO contains 2 LPs on 1 CD: MODERN MUSIC FROM SAN FRANCISCO/THE CHARLIE MARIANO SEXTET (1953). Performers include: The Ron Crotty Trio, Vince Guaraldi Quartet, Jerry Dodgion Quartet, The Charlie Mariano Sextet. Recorded at The Black Hawk, San Francisco, California"
  4. I could post more images, but I wouldn't want to be accused of beating a dead horse.
  5. The others are sideman recordings from other Musicraft records. Actually, only one of them is listed as being from a sideman session (Boyd Raeburn Orchestra). The other 21 are all listed as from Gillespie-leader sessions. (Right about now we need that cool beating-a-dead-horse emoticon from the AAJ Board.)
  6. Hey, I was able to answer "no" on at least several of the questions!
  7. Yes, this series has turned out to be a lot nicer than I initially thought. I've been listening to the Artie Shaw in the car this week and enjoying the sound quality (and the playing, of course). The bonus video on the DVDs is quite welcome. Haven't seen the Shaw video yet. The Duke Ellington material is very nice. I'll have to look out for the Fats Waller set.
  8. I've seen such numbers quoted before, but surely the number of Duke's composition can be pinned down with a bit more accuracy. Really, 1,000-3,000 seems awfully broad... Well, for one thing, there are some tunes with different names that are the same composition and some tunes that have the same name, yet are different compositions. There are also many stage tunes that hadn't been recorded...
  9. Who's this by? Almost looks like a Demuth.
  10. Hey, I found it: there really is a 12-step Clutterers Anonymous with a meeting a block from my job (where some friends already go to other meetings). Maybe it's time to check it out. Now if I could only remember where I put that meeting notice!?
  11. It sounded better than "BroCli"?
  12. CONGRATULATIONS ARIC ON FINDING THE caps KEY!!! [now if only a certain person could learn how to do posts that aren't completely in BOLD]
  13. I think that one of the few exceptions to this was the issue of Esquire in which the "Great Day in Harlem" photo first appeared. Much of that issue was devoted to articles about Jazz under the gnereal descriptioin "The Golden Age of Jazz". Rarely do people realise when they're in a Golden Age. (Tv people always point out that when they were working in the '50s in what is now known as the "Golden Age of tv" everyone told them that what they were doing was crap). But take a look at that famous photo and you see it was a brief period when many of the early greats were still alive and a whole new crop of modernists were making the presence felt. A Golden Age indeed and someone at Esquire knew it. Of course, very few of even the modernists are still alive now. It's been said that the Golden Age of science fiction is 12.
  14. Only if you buy a copy of the current edition at full price.
  15. Next in series: "Jazz Master of the Lincoln Center."
  16. Only $16 for this beautiful Ralph Lauren CHAP Sweater? But Lester's great-granddaughter touched it!
  17. I love some of the listed side effects on medications, e.g., sleep meds ("may cause insomnia"), adhd meds ("may cause hyperactivity"), prostate meds ("not to be used if pregnant" !), etc.
  18. I'd like thank the Lord for inspiring me to vote in this thread! I'd also like to thank my parents, my children, my ex-wife, my lawyer, my cousins, Dan, Mike, R. and John, the boys at the video store, my 11th grade Spanish teacher (wow!), B-3 for making this board possible, my ISP, and the mailman for delivering that great batch of CDs this morning. Praise be!
  19. Amongst the younger cats, Jeb Bishop on trombone, guitar and bass guitar. (He's stuck to 'bone for the last few years.)
  20. I read a review of it that basically said her knowledge of grammer was below average. The review was amusing; haven't read the book.
  21. Maybe they were appealing to the over-40 crowd & didn't one them to have to put on their reading glassing to browse their releases!
  22. You beat me to it, Chris--a pattern I've also noticed in many new jazz releases of the past few years, where "The Creator" is often cited for thanks and/or involvement in the proceedings. God needs something to do in between sports seasons.
