  1. The story of Schroedinger's cat (an epic poem)
  2. I somewhat know her producer (we had kids in the same school a couple years ago [small world, isn't it!]). If I can locate his email address, maybe I'll put in a plug...
  3. He toured Europe, loved Europe, stayed in Europe. He's said in interviews that had he stayed in America after leaving Blakey he could have had a bigger career and higher profile, but he dropped off the radar at the height of his success. Schnitter turns up on drummer Jimmy Madison's recording 90 Degrees with 100% Humidity which is nice set of neo-bop, circa 1996. I think he moved back to NYC from Europe 10-15 years ago, but has mostly been teaching. He's only been drawn back to performing in the last few years.
  4. Congrats, Jim! But, did you remember to rotate your tires?
  5. Is this an anthology or were these recordings done specifically for this release?
  6. I'm enjoying your book quite a bit. Just read your two items on Hank Mobley -- I'm going to have another listen to some of his recordings with your comments in mind. There's a lot to think about throughout the book. Maybe you could get Fresh Air interested? Terry Gross enjoys jazz...

    Steve Lacy

I love that photo. Wonder if he's on the balcony of his Paris apartment?
  8. They even produced a Jazz record guide!
  9. "You can tell her ... or ... you can not tell her."
  10. I guess one thought could be to use "wish lists" that some sites have. (Amazon, for example.)
  11. I found one cover image by him: Thomas B. Allen illustrated this album cover, "The Jazz Odyssey of James Rushing," in 1987.
  12. Nonexistant! Not exactly true. His trio will be appearing in Philadelphia on March 5, 2005 with Steven Bernstein's Diaspora Blues. [PhillyJazz.Jazzmatazz.info]
  13. Herb should have called his friends on Thursday night instead of waiting until Saturday!
  14. Hey, 7/4, are you doing all lizard posts today?
  15. Does Jerry play on that one?
  16. No real advice other than to be persistent with asking the doctors questions. Sometimes they're busy, or paternalistic, or think the patient doesn't want to know what's going on or won't understand. I wish her good luck and a quick recovery. And be persistent. Keep calling back until they get sick of you. Ask questions. Be a pain..
  17. He already knows I hate his guts. I was making some calls a couple months back and unknowingly called a bank customer who grew up with my boss. "Did he have a personality back then?" I asked his childhood friend. I'm sure that one got back to him... That's one way to give yourself motivation to search for a new job! In any case, congrats and good luck!
  18. The stout beer looks a lot like a lager.
  19. Her voice seems a bit eerie to me.
  20. I'm kinda thirsty, how 'bout a pitcher?
  21. Bev has a lot of good suggestions. "Seven" is another jazzy Soft Machine album. If you end up liking National Health, I'd also recommend Hatfield and the North, which has a similar appeal.
  22. Hmm, when did Blue Note record the Birth of the Cool?
