Steroids are performance enhancing drugs. They are used in concert with the training you refer to, helping athletes recover faster, build more muscle and stamina (throw more pitches, extend careers?), etc. This is pretty much universally accepted. Why anyone would feel it necessary to take the position that steroids (or other performance-enhancing substances like HGH) have no effect on an athlete's performance is beyond me. Enhance performance? So does aspirin, Ibuprofen, cortisone shots and that boo-boo juice trainers routinely spray on hitters nailed by a pitch. Why people like Dan continue to ignore the obvious is beyond me.

Steriods don't make you throw the ball accurately and expertly, Dan. Skill, natural talent and traing however, will.

Steinbrenner's death is already

So will Hitler. -
How you can blame Steinbrenner for taking advantage of the rules baseball imposed upon itself. The only thing you could possibly cite him for was being better positioned to take advantage of those rules than anyone else. Would you have had him not do so in the interests of fairness? Since when has that entered into the equation in any professional sport? LIke it or not, It is, always has been and always will be about winning. He did what he thought he needed to do, and could do, to affect that outcome. End of story. It's called a moral compass. The BigShit Boss had only one goal in mind: Buy the World Series. He singlehandedly ruined baseball and turned it into a get all you can while you can greed fest. I cry no tears for this self-serving jackass. None. The bastard. Check the NFL and the when the Hard Salary Cap went into place and how many Super Bowls the 49ers won before and then after. Hint: one is five, the other is zero. I have said it a million times, while baseball doesn't need a NFL type salary cap they should try to emulate the NFL TV revenue sharing to level the playing field. Who's talking about a salary cap, WB3? I'm talking about crossing the line from making a very good living to making multi-millionaires out of people who play a kid's game for a living. The ButtHead Boss changed the game from one of getting a good salary to one of wanton greed and a fuck-the-fans mentality of zero loyalty. As a dedicated fan of baseball, I hope he rots in hell. I hear ya but he was allowed to take advantage of the system by the commissioner, players union, other owners and even the fans. Of all teams that can afford to have a privately financed ballpark it would be the Yankees but the people of New York still voted to help pay for it. I still can't get over that one but I don't live in NY so I don't know what was promised. Good point. But he still made the choice to abuse the system and thereby attempt to buy the WS by throwing suitcases of money at players who might have signed elsewhere if the playing field was still a level one. He created an artificial corner on the market.

For her silence. Makes sense....but that still seems extreme to me. Call me spolied. I guess this quote remains true: "Hell hath no fury than that of a woman scorned". -
BTW...the NL is beating the AL in the AllStar Game. Bottom of the 7th. Thbbbttt!!!

...and yet, I'll bet it was Tiger who suggested they marry, not Elin. Just sayin'... Your point? Two kids and she wants $750 MILLION dollars? Really...for what, pray tell? ...and yet, I'll bet it was Tiger who suggested they marry, not Elin. Just sayin'... I don't think that's why she married him, either. She seems to have far more integrity than he does. Integrity must be awfully expensive these days. -
OK. I can die now. I've seen everything. The Red Sox fan who defended Steinbrenner. Wow. Hypocrite.

Fuck Steinbrenner. He ruined baseball. And I mean that with every fiber of my being. -

The words "gold digger" spring to mind. Just sayin'. -
Let us bang the drum slowly for the man who ruined baseball and turned players and owners into disloyal greedheads. I will miss him like a dog misses fleas.

Congrats to Espana! El Rey del Mundo! A dull game, but relatively free from bonehead ref calls. Here's hoping for instant reply next WC.
-
Octopus, schmoc-topus. Spain will will beacause they are that good.

With a rolling LeBron James big, giant ego storm cell in the forcast. What a self-involved jackass.
-
A roasty, toasty 97 today and with more Tropical moisture on the way. Wheee.
-
LeBron to the Heat! And he has to announce this on a special ESPN show? Seriously...who cares besides Heat fans and Cle'land fans? What an ego maniac.

At first, I thought this was something straight out of the the Onion. After watching the video, I am completely disgusted. Yet another clear indication of how teachers aren't the reason why kids fail in school. -
I seriously do not know how you guys live in that stuff. Ack.

I was in The City last week to watch the semi-pro Giants vs. the [hated] Dodgers. Long story short, I went through Priceline and got a deal on the SFO Hyatt. So I called ahead to ask about the temperatures. They told me it had been hot, you know, in the mid-70s to low 80s. Well, there ya go! Perfect. Hey Brooks? Thbbbttt!!! I figure on being up there again before school starts and I'm smackin' the first guy who tells me it has been hot. Sheesh.
-
Hey! Madison Bumgarner got his first win last night Now the Giants need RUNS!
-
To be fair, "fucking" isn't monosyllabic. Of course. I stand corrected. Perhaps monosyntactic is more to the point.

What's a reasonable time to wait in a doctor's office?
Tim McG replied to papsrus's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Soccer practice, what...are you kidding me? So bleeding is the only emergency? Seriously? My emergencies involve kids passing out, fighting after school, reporting abuse, breaking up gang altercations, consoling a kid in tears, drug/alcohol use, parents pitching a nutty, health issues and general pandemonium. But I'm made to wait. Oh, that's fair. You're right; I don't know what I was thinking. Let the SOB bleed to death so you can get back to grading papers. Who said grading papers was an emergency? OK...so next time I'll just let the bloody gang fight continue that way I won't be late for my doctor appointment. Such nonsense, Mark. Wasn't an emergency in my case. In fact, the appointment was originally scheduled for two weeks ago and his office called me the day of the appointment to cancel because the doc had to go to the hospital. While I was in the waiting room today, a young, attractive woman came in and was ushered directly to the inner sanctum. I assumed she was a salesperson. My previous doctor was quite good about being prompt with appointments. Rarely more than a 5 or 10 minute wait. And once in the examining room, he was always pretty quick to come in. I was in this guy's examining room for almost 45 minutes -- and that's after more than a half hour wait in the empty waiting room. On top of all that, he was unprepared for the specific nature of my visit once I finally got to see him. He's a dip-shit and I'll be looking for a new doctor. Good point.
