I have since apologized to Jim and to Jerry for starting that thread and not PM'ing Aloc/Jerry instead. I screwed up. I was dead dog wrong on that one. But Dan Gould insists upon being a jerk about it and dumped his dog [which he had as an avatar and in his signature] in favor of the avatar he picked as an in-your-face.

His avatar doesn't seem to bother anyone else. You're the exception here. Sometimes you have to accept what the majority accepts, or if you can't, just suck it up and accept that you're different about it from everyone else. And what I have said to you about being a Dallas fan bothers noone else except you. Don't you see? If we allow this sort of piss-poor behavior for one poster, what is the justification to stop anyone from doing this sort of thing? I honestly don't remember being bothered. Or if I was, it's long over with. You freaked on me, Aggie. Be honest. Now that you have let it go, does that suddenly justify it?

I don't have a dog in this fight, since I have no idea what it's about, but as Chuck mentioned, Dan is Dan, and you're not the first to be on the receiving end here. In fact you're in good company. And although he may have chosen that avatar to piss you off, you can exercise the choice not to be pissed off about it. Hell, rostasi had that avatar months ago and nobody was pissed about it. Just a little grossed out, in my case. I understand the concept, Joe....and in large part, you would be right. It is the obvious and blantant attempt at flaming me I don't get. The words are easy to ignore. The avatar isn't. Dan knows that. If you have a function wherein I can block a specific poster's avatar then I am all for what you just said. But because the avatar is visual and cannot be ignored if you scroll, read or puruse the posts on each thread, this would be a whole different deal. The man is a complete menace to the sensible particulars Jim has set down for this BBS continued success. His promise to ignore list 7/4 and me mean absolutely nothing if he continues to visually assault anyone...by his own stated intentions. If Dan [his avatar in particular] isn't censored it is no different than allowing the verbal flaming to continue. And we're back to square one.

I don't take him seriously - that's why he's ignoring my posts or so he says and that's why I make fun of him. Bah! I understand your point, but a bully is a bully is a bully. I favor not goading posters Dan hates by purposely adopting an insulting avatar. He grabbed onto Jerry's avatar as a put down directed at another poster. None of this means anything, Guys when Dan insists upon being a jerk toward anyone. Either the flaming stops, or this BBS stops. I think Jim made that clear enough, don't you?

Just what I was thinking...what a boardkiller!

Jim, I went through a rough financial stretch a couple years ago where I nearly lost my house and almost went belly-up over it: We were only a few days away from bankruptcy, it was that bad. I know exactly what you're going through right now and it is a incredibly difficult place to be. Fatherhood and family come first and I have faced the lonely prospect of being a distant father to my own son because of my responsibilities as a teacher and as a [former] debate coach which took me away from my kids. I quit years ago to devote more time to my daughter which I [sadly] did not to my son. I know from harsh experience what you are up against and have paid the price. My relationship with my son is surface at best, but I swore I wouldn't do to my daughter what I had done to my son....so I quit coaching. Given the out pouring of support on this thread and the sheer weight in numbers of people who are more than willing to help both financially and by serving as a moderator, it seems to me we can fix this and get you the time you need to be a Dad and take care of business elsewhere, too. You make a straight forward and honest request regarding flaming and subscription concerns. I, for one, am more than willing to help in both those capacities and in any voluntary position I can to help keep this place going. Many ideas have been posed and I think there is a consensus on the money relative to subscriptions and moderators. Please know this, Jim: You do what you need to do. Family comes first and I have experienced both the benefits and the heartache and learned that when in crisis, the rest of the world needs to take a backseat. I didn't realize that with my first child...I know that now with my second child. You do what is best for you and your family, Jim....not us. Trust me. Tim
