I take it his Gold Glove winning days are over. In the limited role the Yanks used him for Chavez actually played pretty well. His body is rather brittle, so he can't play everyday or he'll break down, but as an occasional 3b/1b/Dh he was just what the Yanks needed/need. Right now it's third base, I don't know!!! I used to watch him play when he was with OakTown...even got to see one of his Gold Glove ceremonies. I'm glad he's still playing but thought he was much older than 35. The Dodgers just plunked down another $36 million to get LH'er Ryu Hyun-jin. This on the heals of that mega-money deal for Greinke. Apparently, bankruptcy doesn't mean what it used to any more.

I don't know what your link was to ... but here's another source: http://hardballtalk....t-can-add-more/ Furthermore, 36 million over 6 years adds ... presumably six million to their 2013 payroll. And, posting fees are not calculated for luxury tax purposes. I don't really care about the logic of these salaries, I only know that the team has the revenue to support them. I think its the teams like the Astros and Marlins, who can put an absolute piece of shit product on the field and laugh all the way to the bank where they count all the millions they've made from TV rights and revenue sharing. Reality is that we might as well start getting used to even more ludicrous baseball contracts. The game is awash in money and that money is going to chase the biggest free agents. Unless you're an owner who only wants to bank the money yourself. Not sure why you can't see it but here it is again. Who knows how much it adds to next year's salary. It could be front loaded as well.http://www.mikescios...gicillness.com/Taking out the posting fee it's $237.86. With the luxary tax and without knowing exactly what is being added it's now $279.48. Still trying with your link. But more to the point: Above you claimed their payroll is $340 million. Now you're down to $280. How's that? And how the hell do you come up with one six year/36 million dollar contract raising the 2013 payroll by almost 42 million dollars??? That's some seriously fucked up math. Maybe this will help: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/breaking-down-zack-greinke-signing-050340056.html

On a front-loaded six year deal which provides him with an opt-out after three. Uh... yeah, ok. New York Yankees West. Wow.
-
Somehow, I'm OK with that possibility.

I guess one good thing is Bobby Valentine is gone.

I take it his Gold Glove winning days are over.

Eric Chavez is still around...? They must be putting batteries in him by now

True dat. Part of me holds out hope that he will return to form and be that dominate "lights out" kinda guy he once was. Then reality of the past season and a half sets in....so, we wait and see.
-
True, but will Lincecum be OK with a reliever role? I kinda doubt it.
-
One. He goes to free agency after this season. Ah, ok. Given how well he came around in the post-season, my hunch is that he stays, and if there's any need/desire to deal him, it will be at the trade deadline next year. I think they could get more for him then. Right now, it's like, Tim Lincecum? Hmmm...Yeah, ok. What else is out there? Whereas in the heat of a pennant race, it's like Tim Lincecum? Yeah, remember how he came around last year? Let's go rent Lincecum! And then you get value back. Of course, if he gets it back together (and he definitely showed that he could) and the Giants are in the race, he ain't going nowhere. But that's just my hunch. I'd like to see Lincecum stay on, too. But remember, his success in the WS was in coming out of the bullpen in long relief. As a starter, he just couldn't get untracked. However, this being the last year on his contract, he may dial it up a bit to stay competitive in the Free Agent market. We'll see.

One. He goes to free agency after this season. Marco Scuturo re-signs and Gregor Blanco is still a question mark. as baseball continues the ridiculous wasteful practice of throwing each ball out of play after it has been breathed on, i suggest that every new glove be thrown out of play after every touch. I think that has more to do with souvenirs for the fans, TBH. Though scuffed-up baseballs can cause an issue for batters.

Happily, I was fortunate enough to have seen Dave Brubeck perform in concert a couple times. Needless to say, he will be missed. Rest in Peace, Mr. Brubeck.
-
Pagan re-signs with the Giants; 4-years, $40 mil. Affelt is back. Now on to Scuturo. Possible trade bait: Zito [dare I hope?] and Brandon Belt. I also think Lincecum's days are numbered in SF.

Your team has Aldon Smith. Your complaining privileges are revoked. And Justin Smith....but not the refs. Tough room. Sheesh.
-
OK...so! When is a pass out of the end zone which makes it by the line of scrimmage a safety? When is player down by contact on a fumble recovery a touchdown? And when is a simultaneous slide by a QB and a Corner Back a 15-yard roughing call? Answer: When the referees work in St. Louis vs. the Forty-Niners. What a big bunch of officiating garbage. Amazing.

Yup, it was out there. Winning championships gets expensive, and it's a smart move on the Giants part since they appear to have an another excellent (& goofy) fireman. I dunno, Guys. Romo, though virtually unhittable when he's on, has had numerous meltdowns and when his confidence is shaken he's serving up meat balls. Nope. I don't like this one at all.
-
Whoa...I never saw this one coming Wilson is cut loose from the Giants- http://www.sfgate.com/giants/article/Giants-don-t-tender-contract-to-Wilson-4082635.php

Fair enough. However, when the Lurie Family owned the Giants and put a less-than-stellar product on the field then threatened us fans with moving the team to that monstrosity of a stadium in Tampa Bay, I felt like we were being punked....but I still came out to the ballpark. Jed York did the same thing to us Niners fans but mainly because the Little Boy Yutz is so inept he couldn't grab his butt with both hands even with a running start. I still turned out. But I get your point. Ownership needs to treat their fan base with a little more respect than that.
-
No doubt. However, what the management decides to do is not the player's fault. I just figure we fans need to be there to either cheer them on or voice our disdain regarding their performance [or lack of same]. There have been plenty of times I have railed against the teams I support or the poor performance of players on those teams. I have also decried the idiocy from the owners, as well. Giving up is not an option, IMHO.
-
Looks like Colin Kaepernick is the Niners starter! Dare I hope the Alex "huh?" Smith era is coming to a close...?
-
Sounds like he's given up on their 2013 season already. If I were an Indian fan, that would be enough to turn me off completely. What say you, SS1? Sounds to me like the guy is just being honest. Fans need to support their team regardless of the W-L record...being a Giants fan, I think that gives me the creds to make such a statement.
-
Just my two cents... Braves might struggle a bit @ 3B with Chipper Jones gone. Unless they have somebody with a good glove and a big bat coming up from the minors. I figure if Hunter Pence keeps playing like he did the last few months of the Giants season, he may do all right in free agency...as long as he isn't asking for crazy money.
-
It's Holiday Season and so we're back to the Broadway/Hollywood "big show" crap. I don't understand it either. I was pulling for your Brownies, SS1....glad they got the best of the Steelers
