  1. Even if they got the out, the game would have still been tied. Basking in the glow of yet another Giants road victory That was cool. But the Nats are seriously struggling to win the series. I'm guessing Game 5 won't be as pretty.
  2. Really, a great comeback by the Giants, I didn't think they could pull it off. You know Dusty must be dying over this one. It will be interesting if Lincecum will start in the next series or not, I don't see how Zito can be allowed to start. If they play the Cardinals, the Giants will have home field advantage. I don't know which team would be tougher. The Red Birds have been there before. The Nats seem like this year's version of the Not Ready for Prime Time Players out there, but have been kicking butt all season long. Home feild would be a plus, though. That E6 opened the flood gates, to be sure. On to the NLCS!
  3. GIANTS WIN!!!!!!!!! WOO-HOO!!!
  4. I dunno. That Grand Salami Posey hit was totally legit!
  5. On to Game 5!!! GO Giants!!!
  6. Twister is definitely on my list.
  7. Giants live for another day. One day at a time....
  8. Here's hoping my guys can avoid the sweep. Grrrrr I don't think they have #5. I believe it's the first two in STL and last 3 in DC. I don't think it's fair to the Division winner in this format. I agree. However some feel the 2-3 is more fair as it allows the team with the better record the chance to win the series at home. Baseball might return to the 2-2-1 format next year. I like the 2-2-1 format better. It offers more parity, IMHO.
  9. It wasn't much better with that floating strike zone in the Giants vs Reds game last night. I mean, how do you ring a guy up on a marginal called strike three? Twice. This is the Post Season, not some meaningless game in April. You'd better be damn sure it's a legit strike three before you call it, Ump. Two batters later and that same pitch is called a ball? Please. High strike/ball or low strike/ball. Didn't matter. The HP ump was all over the road. Then came Santiago "Only-good-for-two-outs" Casilla....Grrrr Tonight is a must win: Go hard or go home, Giants.
  10. Have a blast, Brad!
  11. It made the division races meaningful. I think you get that with the previous system of allowing only one WC team. I agree, I felt it all meant less this year because the teams were all in, no one was risking being eliminated. Last year was good because someone was going home with a loss. I hate this new system So do I. And as Matthew pointed out: Bud Selig is an idiot. It made the division races meaningful. I think you get that with the previous system of allowing only one WC team. With one wild card there's no premium to winning the division, as the wild card only gets less home games. With two wild cards, you run the risk, if you're a wild card, of one game and you're out. With one wild card there's a five game series for the wild card. That scenario is what drove the Yanks and O's to battle it out to the end, as neither team wanted to face a one and done situation. I'm a Yank fan through and through, but much respect and admiration for the A's & O's and their battles to make the playoffs. Both teams have just about no household names, but they both play hard and give it everything they've got. I think for manager of the year in the AL we need two winners, Showalter & Melvin, both deserve it richly. A side note- the A's traded Gio Gonzalez in the offseason, he might win the Cy Young, and the A's STILL make the playoffs- amazing!!! I see your point. Although that AL East race had more to do with winning the Division than the WC, IMHO. Call me old fashioned, but I just think the regular season is long enough [with 162 games] and provides sufficient motivation to get to the playoffs. That one and done scenario plays out almost every year in some form or another during the season, I figure. I dunno. Maybe I'll come to like the two WC system over time. We'll see.
  12. It made the division races meaningful. I think you get that with the previous system of allowing only one WC team.
  13. I just worry about baseball going to an expanded NHL/NBA playoff wherein everybody makes it in. I'm still not convinced the extra WC team is a good idea.
  14. What Matthew said. I sure hope you're right, Matthew. The Giants struggled mightily against the Reds during the regular season and Dusty Baker is certainly motivated after getting the heave-ho shortly after the 2002 WS as the scape goat for the loss. So we wait and see.
  15. My condolences, Jim.
  16. Padres in 2010...I think.
  17. It would be kind of cool, though, er, that is...if my Giants don't get there first. That would be even cooler
  18. Wow, have your psychic powers told you the braves will beat the best hitting team in the NL? Ok, Rockies are hitting 2 points higher, but they don't count! I'm talking about the Cards.... That's a load off my mind! I also thought "we" were going to have to face the Nats. Don't tell me who wins, let me be surprised! Quincy, you if no one else will appreciate this. Hunter Pence has 104 RBI's(Well, Goodspeak is probably happy about that fact) in 101 games with the Phils, 59 RBI's. .271 BA. in 57 games with the Giants, 45 RBI's, yet is only hitting .224. How do you do that? He must have gotten some tips from Adam Dunn... I don't think the Cards or the Dodgers [assuming they can sweep SF and the Cards lose two] can beat the Braves. Hence, my point about the Giants getting the Braves in the 1st round. Secondly, I'm not sure what all the hub-bub is about Pence. He seems to be doing just fine for my guys. Go Cards! Go O's!
  19. To wit: When I was back there in seminary school There was a person there Who put forth the proposition That you can petition the Lord with prayer Petition the Lord with prayer Petition the Lord with prayer You cannot petition the Lord with prayer
  20. No worries, Jim. Rangers are in regardless. One win [or loss by OakTown] and they get the West. I'm pulling for the O's to beat out the Yankees for the East and the A's to clinch a WC spot. Looks like my Giants will take on Chop-lanta in the first round. Dodgers are toast unless they sweep the Giants. What I really hope for [and I don't want my guys to lose, but...] is it comes down to Wednesday's game for LA...and the Gigantes usher them out of contention with a blow-out win
  21. I thought this was a pretty cool shot from yesterday's Reds vs Brewers game:
  22. need a SS. Yeah? Yeah...they got one too....the personality challenged(Just like his older bro) Stephen Drew..but I may have been wrong about really needing one, they are really on a roll...Baltimore and the A's are the most unlikely teams to be playing so well coming into September... Oakland is a bunch of f-in' bulldogs. If it weren't us whose legs they were trying to chew off, I'd be all GO OAKLAND. But can't do that, not now. St\ill, them some tough bastards, Oakland is. They have to be. Next year, anybody good is traded away.
  23. I like Beltre's reaction, which basically is: "Name names and don't hide behind 80%" Which is true, Gagne has put everyone who was on that team under a cloud now. My reaction: *Yawn* Does anyone care anymore? I took a look at the LA roster for his record breaking save season. If 80% were juiced it wasn't very good juice. Eric Gag-me would top the list of that 80%. Either it wasn't very good juice or the stuff doesn't do what people say it does. Just sayin'
  24. So much for trying to break the union. Apparently, union workers do a better job than scabs. Who knew? The NFL needs to get its collective head examined after this fiasco. Idiots.
