  1. Shazzam!
  2. Neither did I. A paper tiger. And Green Bay was only picked over the Niners because of Aaron Rogers. The Eastern media, once again, refuses to pick any team from the Bay Area. Atlanta didn't exactly overwhelm Seattle. Oh - & it's RODGERS Niners lose to Patriots in the Super Bowl. I dunno. It was 27-3 at one point in the game, wasn't it? Hm. As to the Niners they still have to beat Atlanta in Atlanta. Not a slam dunk. The Pats, OTOH, will struggle mightily against the Ravens.
  3. Happy Belateds to my favorite Canadian!

  5. OK, but here's the deal: There are wife beaters, alcoholics, drug addicts/users, womanizers, adulterers, etc ad nauseum. What I don't get is why the writers suddenly draw the line a PEDs? Again, PEDs do not create HR hitters and lights-out pitchers. Talent does that. And to even suggest that Bonds [who won several gold gloves, MVP awards and batting titles] and Clemons successes [who won 7 Cy Youngs] were all a result of PEDs is an absolute absurdity. If they don't get in the HOF is a joke. Lastly, the writers are reflecting their own personal issues and not doing their jobs which is voting in deserving talent. That is just plain wrong and on so many levels.
  6. To which Tim Lincecum is eternally grateful for that CBA! And has, IMHO, messed up his ability to pitch.
  7. Why should Bonds, Clemens and Sosa be punished for something that MLB encouraged them to do? Even when Bonds was going after Aaron's homerun record, Selig did nothing, absolutely nothing about these players, other than to make sure the baseball made all the money it could off of them. When McGwire & Sosa were doing their homerun chase after the labor strike, they were commended and hailed for "saving baseball", and McGwire was very open about what he was taking at the time, I remember reading articles about it at the time. So, I'm sorry, but for me, it doesn't make any sense to punish players, especially when nothing has been prove through testing, or even in the courts. I'm not saying that these three and many others did not take PED's, I'm saying that MLB turned it's back on the problem, and did nothing. Or another way to say all this: If these three are out of the Hall of Fame, then MLB better make damn sure that Bud Selig doesn't get in either! You are spot on here, Matthew. Excellent post. And here's the other side of the coin: The stats Bonds and Clemons put up before the so-called steroid era alone would make them first ballot HOFer's. The writers are turning the HOF into a not what you know but who you know good ol' boys club. And since we're on the subject, are guys like Goose Gossage going to call for the removal of those HOF players who used amphetamines during the 80s? And Brad, you're OK with "whispers and suspicions" then why not let Pete Rose in the HOF? He only gambled during his managerial days, not his playing days. But those "whispers and suspicions" suggested otherwise. Look, either we keep it to what a guy accomplished or we vacate the entire HOF and start all over. This pick and chose crap and on the basis of non-baseball issues is a big bunch of selective garbage.
  8. The sporting press who vote for the HOF are COMPLETLY clueless and display a penchant for pointless hate. They are either a bunch of weeny whiners who never played the game or are the towel boys of the baseball world. If Bonds and Clemons don't get into the HOF, the HOF is a sham, a travesty and a bad joke on those of us who are fans. In short: FUCK the sports writers. They all need a collective diaper change or a swift kick in the ass. I am amazed at the arrogance. [My apologies for the bold face, I am not allowed to change it for some BIZARRE reason...Google sucks]
  9. Funny you should mention the security scam....we just switched back to Comcast [to get Giants games; ATT arbitrarily changed their viewing area saying we are an LA market. Sure. LA is some 250 miles to the South. Somebody needs to buy a map.] and one of the first things the sales dude on the other end said was they were offering a special on ADT home security. I thought that was pretty odd
  10. I really liked his PBS California's Gold series. He sought out the obscure right along with the mundane and made them both seem like something special. At 67, he died far too young. Rest in Peace, Huell. http://media.zenfs.com/en_us/News/Reuters/2013-01-07T222529Z_486753229_GM1E9180HOM01_RTRMADP_3_PEOPLE-HUELLHOWSER.JPG
  11. As well you should, because the Falcons may have their hands full with Seattle. I don't know how many people have figured it out yet, but the Seahawks are for real. Don't be too surprised if you see a rookie quarterback in the Super Bowl after all. For real? They played a pretty soft schedule this season and with that pretend win against the Packers and an injured RG III, I'd say luck had plenty to do with it all.
  12. Have a single malt on me, OK? Hope it is a Grand Day Out
  13. Good point. Maybe the Niners will pick him up as an Offensive Coordinator. The one they have now is so predictable, he could mail it in. It might not be the OC who is the problem, but Harbaugh himself. He strikes me as a coach who is pretty conservative with his offense, just limit turnovers, limit risk in general, and count on your defensive team to hold the other team. If that's the case, he wouldn't go for an OC who likes to take shots downfield with any frequency, etc. and you wind up with vanilla play calling. I dunno. Harbaugh has called a few gadget plays this year and gone for it on 4th down several more times. IMHO, the Niners haven't had a decent OC since Mike Holmgren back during the glory years.
  14. I have never even heard of this one. Is the NCAA just making things up as they go along?
  15. It would be better than who they have.

  17. I don't get the Lovie Smith firing. 10-6 in a tough division doesn't seem like a valid reason to fire anybody.
  18. Lakers are back to .500
  19. Aw, gee wiz, SS1. And after I tried to help you through a dismal baseball season with words of encouragement....where's the love?
  20. You could make a good case for Peterson, but I think Peyton Manning has meant a lot to Denver and he's raised the level of play all across the team. My Giants are dead as doornails, but they did win the big one last year. This year? Which Giant team will show up, the world beaters or the easy to beats? The NY Giants won because Kyle FREAKING Williams fumbled the NFC Championship away. Had the Niners rightfully gone to the Super Bowl, they would have wiped the floor with Tom Brady and the Patriots.
  21. So Budweiser and Miller are no longer beers people want to drink. Gee. How about that. Give me an Anchor Steam or Newcastle Brown Ale or Shock Top or Fat Tire any day.
  22. One can only hope. I wish the same on the Dodgers.
  23. Frank Gore.
