consumer reports rates supermarkets
Tim McG replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
The only Trader Joe's we have is about 40 miles from here, but not a bad drive. Having lived in SoCal, the LA traffic would deter me, too. We shop SaveMart and WinCo in our neck o'the woods. -

I liken self-checkout to drum machines and computer generated musical loops: They eliminate jobs. Besides, I get real tired of trying to figure out every store's list of icons and mechanics; standardize the damn things! Give me a human being anytime. -
I have to agree with you, Matthew. Everytime the athletes and their agents get a wild hair, the teams throw crazy money at them...then we fans pay that much more for a seat at the ballpark. And don't even get me started on the price of a lousy beer and a hot dog. Gah!

First it's pennies, then nickels....can socialized medicine and cancer research be far behind? Gah!

april is national organ donation month
Tim McG replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
With all due respect, I don't think any of us knew of your daughter's condition...and I am very sorry to learn of this. I take organ donations very seriously [i am a donor, too] and had a cousin who got a heart transplant when she was 15. I feel for you and have removed my previous post. My apologies. You and your daughter are in my thoughts and prayers, Dave. All the best. -
Well...as much as I like Magic Johnson [Lakers fan here], I have absolutely no wish for the Dodgers to become suddenly successful anytime in the near and/or distant future. Sorry, Noj. Dodger Blue makes me want to, well...it isn't pretty.

Sure beats being a scene out of Soylent Green. -
He is an amazing SS I just wonder if his BA has gotten any better.

Well, the good news is we Americans won't have to worry about the cashier fobbing off Canadian pennies to us any longer.

Oh, I like money alright...I just have no use for the Dodgers or the Yankees. But I would love a piece of the far more likable Giants Likeable Giants? Hmm... To each their own Thanks! The Giants have a family friendly ballpark, success in baseball [three WS appearances since the Dodgers' 1988 WS] and sold out games which rival the [hated] Dodgers. If you want to make money, invest in the Giants. If you want to deal with shootings and beatings with the ensuing lawsuits and in a ballpark named after a ditch, invest in the Dodgers. The Yankees, OTOH, are just plain detestable. Nuff said? Relax, I was just kidding. No need to get your knickers in a twist, as they say on this side of the pond. No worries. I was just having a little fun is all. I dunno. $2.15 billion doesn't sound very cheap to me Disclaimer: Dodger hater since birth.

I wouldn't give you ten cents for either of them. As far as the Yanks, why not? Through their sports station, YES, they are pulling in incredible amounts of money, plus there is marketing, etc. I'm not sure they're worth $5 Billion but they are worth quite a bit of money. I couldn't sleep at night knowing I actually spent money on either team.

I teach teenagers and, sadly, more and more struggle with reading an analogue clock. -
FWIW... It has been my experience [since in my biz, I have to do a lot of research regarding current events] most on line newspapers just want you to give them your e-mail and name in order to access all articles. The LA Times, SF Chronicle, Christian Science Monitor [a surprisingly unbiased news source], AP News Services as well as my local fish wrap Sacramento/Modesto/Fresno Bee all do this to some degree or another. If you want to copy an article or photo, you pay. TBH, this is the first on line newspaper I have heard of asking you to pay beyond a certain number of articles.

When do the half court drills start? LA Times story:

Winning the NL West is always a struggle. The division is very competitive when everybody's healthy, so we wait and see if SI got it right. Picking the Angels to make it to the WS is a fair bet, IMHO.
-
I was surprised at the Boss move, too. Don't they still owe him for three more years? TBH, I was pulling for them to make the play-offs last year, but those last few games just blew it for them. Give Palmer some big targets and the Raiders will be fine, IMHO.
-
Things are not looking good at 2B for the Giants; Sanchez' shoulder is taking much longer to rehab. That leaves the light hitting Emmanuel Burriss, Mike Fontenot or Brandon Crawford. I think the Giants' front office is going to regret giving up on Jeff Keppinger. Dumb move, IMHO.

what are you drinking right now?
Tim McG replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Yes, I camped in Rock a couple of years back. Lovely countryside, pity about the yachts! I know Doom Bar from down there. If you don't mind my asking....what is the alcohol content of most bottled British beer? -
Today...rain. Badly needed rain.
