    Gene Shaw

Nothing of his on Spotify. When I typed Clarence Shaw it asked if I meant Clarinet Shaw, and when I typed Gene Shaw it asked whether I wanted Gone Show.
  2. Is it possible that Pullman never mentions the 1946 session with Sarah Vaughan, or did I just miss it somehow?
  3. Nelson Goerge's Motown book has been mentioned, but I'd add his Death of Rhythm and Blues.
  4. The good news is that there new drugs out or in the works for macular degeneration. http://www.webmd.com/eye-health/macular-degeneration/news/20051017/new-eye-drugs-treat-macular-degeneration Anyway, re: cataracts, everybody I know who has had the surgery has had no ill effects and excellent results.
  5. This is one of the most significant moves in the transition from print to digital since the advent of the e-reader.
  6. Ah, but if Reig had recorded that session when he was with Savoy, surely the man who ruined Jimmy Scott's career (Lubinsky) wouldn't have let Reig just take them, n'est-ce pas?
  7. Ironic, since the book was one of the major vehicles that helped to inspire support for the abolitionist cause. It had been long suspected that the Roost sides were backdated for who knows what reason, bragging rights?, so Pullman's "revalation" was not news to me.
  8. Allergies, more than a month earlier than last year.

  11. I used to knock about with a man called MacGregor. I called him Mac. You remember Mac? Eh?
  12. I was privileged to see the Irene Schweizer-Pierre Favre duo in their U.S. debut (after 40-some years of playing together) at The Stone on Saturday night. There's a nice clip from the show on YouTube (I'm blocked at work). I'm glad I swapped seats with the guy who is now in the frame the whole time.
  13. That must have come through within the past year or so.
  14. I didn't go with Magic Jack because you can't port your number, so I use Callcentric instead. I use it through a softphone on my computer and headset, but you can also buy phones that connect to your modem. http://www.callcentric.com/
  15. I can't figure out how to download them as mp3 files. I'm listening on the computer. Can anybody help? Looks like maybe I can't download them without an Android device, which I don't have: https://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1067233

  19. First time I've come across that particular fetish.
  20. In 1974, IIRC, when I was 18, Grappelli came to NYC and played the Bottom Line. My friends and I said to each other, "He's ancient, we'd better go, we may never get a chance to see him again." He was great, and of course he had more than 20 years ahead of him on earth and on stage. I just found this on Spotify. Check out the lineup.

  22. Some totally new names to me. Let's see what Spotify can do for me on these names...
  23. I like this one for the great rhythm section and the differing styles of Burrell and Bucky.
