  1. I'd bet it was John Blake, who recorded a couple of times with Tyner in that period. Possibly some overlap with this lineup?: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horizon_%28McCoy_Tyner_album%29
  2. Here's a nice remembrance of Sam from Brian Carpenter: http://briancarpenter.net/content/2011/12/remembering-sam-rivers-1923-2011.html

There was also flak about Sinatra and a young Natalie Cole on one of his specials in the '60s. In Brazil, although there's plenty of racism, those same constraints didn't exist. Elis Regina and Jair Rodrigues had a great TV show together. And here's Elis with Wilson Simonal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvJt59HrA3Q These days Colin Powell isn't allowed to touch Harry Belafonte.

  6. The problem with your comment is that there are plenty of people with high IQs who are stupid and full of unjustified machismo. Not in New York. Here, what you see is what you get. I've lived in NY all my 56 years and I've met plenty of stupid people with high IQs, especially at NYU, Columbia and the "financial services" sector.
