  1. Who has the Live volumes 1-4 (or any of them, for that matter) mentioned on the woodyshaw.com site? Recommended? Thanks. PJJ
  2. Phew. Tough watch. Went to see it tonight, and while I'm glad I'm did, I'm left feeling very unsettled, and very sad... *SPOILERS BELOW IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT* One thing i'm VERY glad about is the fact that there wasn't a "kumbaya" moment at the end where everyone held hands and said, "yeah! We don't need stereotypes, we love each other, we can all get along!" That would have been extremely disingenuous, imo--but at the same time, I can't remember seeing a move that left so much un-settled. The acting was terrific--the characters genuinely expressed pain and anguish in a way I haven't seen in a long time on film; but...well, I'm not expressing myself well, but I'm just left..._sad_ by the whole thing. I need to chew on it and revisit this discussion.
  3. Hitting Paley's Place, a restaurant in Portland where the chef just won the Beard Foundation Best Chef award (for the Northwest region). Hope he's not too hungover to cook!
  4. Caprese salad--and some chianti! Nature's perfect foods--tomato, basil, mozzarella, and grapes!
  5. Second that. Go. They rawk live. Saw them last summer in Philly outdoors...terrific concert.
  6. Did I miss something? Where you goin', Mark?
  7. He shoots he scores! Well done, Mike!
  8. Just switched to cable (from DSL) today. Whooo-AHHHHH!!! Way faster!!! I'm using Millenium out in Seattle. Bought a Motorola cable modem/wireless all in one. I'm not looking back!
  9. Going to try to throw together some fresh halibut, peppers (red, green, and jalapeno), coconut milk, curry (freshly ground madras, yum!), cilantro, and thai fish sauce. Hopefully it will turn out well!
  10. Not much to add but the cold turkey thing worked for me. Well, that and my then girlfriend (now wife) taking me on a (intentionally devious) tour of her anatomy lab...no joke. "See, it's cool, they've pre-dissected the rib cage on this one and we can just lift it out to look at the organ systems and...OHHHHH, WOW, it looks like THIS one was a smoker!" Crushed up the pack and quit in the middle of final exams. That was 1997. Regardless, good luck to you (and to Weizen, who, if I'm not mistaken, is trying to quit at the moment as well).
  11. Sorry I missed y'all...hope to see some of you in Philly for the southern leg of Castetapalooza '05!!!
  12. Jumping in WAY late to this thread. A kind soul provided me with a compliation of Jandek tracks, which I've been digging into tonight. I've read this thread through, and I'm fascinated by the reviews and, now, fascinated by the music. A whole hell of a lot of influences going on. Dark, dark, heavy stuff--and at once completely terrifying and brilliant. So far, I'm really enjoying the tracks from the oft-mentioned Blue Corpse and also Follow Your Footsteps the most, but this is with twenty minutes of skipping around the compilation. Keep writing, all--I need to keep learning about this stuff.
  13. Nothing to add. Much love!
  14. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I'm going to make it to New York. But there will of course be a Philly Catestarama! Not sure how many of us are here, but how about lunch on Saturday?
  15. Lime, no question. Although a Meyers Lemon could get me to stray...
  16. YES!!! WTF? Might be time to convert to Opera.
  17. If I can make it up there, I'd love to join in--is this going to be on Thursday or Friday?
  18. Man, I'm feelin' the greazzzze just pourin' out the studio looking at those pictures. Right on!
  19. Hey all-- The Takács have been discussed quite a bit on this board, so I thought i'd let those in the Puget Sound area know that they're playing this Wednesday in Olympia, Washington at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts--according to their website, they will be playing Bartok No. 3, Borodin No. 2, and Beethoven Op. 59 No. 1. What a concert this will be. I just bought a ticket front and center, so they're still available. Respond if you think you might go--it would be great to meet some of you. PJ P.S. They're playing in Portland for two nights, tonight and tomorrow. Do NOT miss these guys if you're a fan of string quartets!
  20. Great news, Dan. This would be a terrific subject for a short documentary!
  21. I may owe _you_ something, Marcus, but I'd LOVE to have Cannonball in New York! PM on its way! PJ
  22. Currently working my way through a dozen Kumamoto oysters. Yummmmm... Not sure what's next.
  23. goddamn it...meant to post in the "what are you listening to right now" section. Had these for years...
