  1. New copies of 4 Seasons available from UK and German Amazon UK Marketplace sellers here: ping! , for under £5.
  2. Lee Konitz suggested his own tendency to play sharp was a subconscious attempt to draw attention to his playing above the rest of the band - interview in Jazz Review a couple of years ago, I think.
  3. Could be true for all I know, but I'd have to read it somewhere other than the Daily Mail before I'd give it a second look.
  4. Plenty of music. Click on the lnk above, then on the 'Radio Player' link, then 'Jazz Legends' in the right-hand panel, and the programme starts after a minute or two.
  5. The only point I can see to a list like this is that it may give you a sense of security if you don't live near an offender; however 'The typical sexual predator will assault 30 - 60 times before being caught', so the list only tells you about a fraction, and anyway, some of them may even have learned to drive.
  6. Well I'm enjoying the respect Rifkin showed for the compositions, even if he does give them a classical slant from time-to-time. There's a real concert hall ambience to these recordings as well. I'm looking forward to hearing the Lamb and Scott now, too: probably look for the Nielsons.
  7. Sort of: IASW, even the box-set, is more likely to be bought by people not into jazz.
  8. Following my nose into ragtime from Jelly Roll Morton and Air Lore, I found all three original Rifkin LPs this weekend and snapped them up. What I've heard on the first LP seems all quite stately: really lets you hear what's going on in the compositions. A bit of online research throws up the name of Max Morath as an ideal interpreter of Joplin: anyone heard his stuff, or feel like recommending anyone else?
  9. Great stories. Unsung and out of print for years, but at least some of the stories have been back in print over the last 3 or 4 years, and even more seem to be available at the moment - see Amazon UK, listed under J Percival Martin. Very British, very odd, and genuinely enjoyable for adults.
  10. Capt Adventure's a tremendous album: my favourite Stan, after the inevitable Under Milk Wood. Great Art Themen, but the whole band buidls up a head of Steam. Think I'll wait for the Classic Records 180gm double LP edition I expect's on the way, though.
  11. So did I! And Subconcious-Lee.
  12. I'll keep an eye out for the vinyl. There's a Folkways site HERE that looks like it's selling it on CD and tape.
  13. Are the Swaggies and CJMs interchangeable then - same content on each volume?
  14. Found this on the net: a little bit from John RT Davies on his involvement with the Swaggie and CJM LPs, plus something from Bill Nowlin of Rounder Records. HERE. Looks like there's plenty more interesting stuff on that site. I'm going to look for CJM LPs I'm missing (all but 7 and 8). The 1923 solos on the Retrieval LP are stunning - Jelly Roll Blues always has me filling in the rest of the band from the Red Hot Peppers recording.
  15. Yep, copy-controlled in the UK too.
  16. Exactly what I thought.
  17. He's playing in Cardiff on 24th May, as part of what's billed as the 'Louis Stewart/Gilad Atzmon Quintet'. Looking forward to it.
  18. How was Texier? I bought the new album as a first sample of his music - must admit I find the North African flavours a bit off-putting at the moment, but there're many things I like about the album.
  19. Didn't you know? We've relocated: we're parked next to New Zealand now.
  20. Mark Isham's Miles Remembered: The Silent Way Project had a few plays chez moi.
  21. ONLY IN SPLOTT. Feels good to say it out loud, doesn't it. Type it into Google for a quick primer, but don't bother with the charming Splott Girl cartoon.
  22. Isn't it bad BB etiquette to change your handle without telling people who you 'were'? If not, it's at least mighty confusing.
  23. Some of the posters on the Kind Of Blue thread seem to have had their heads shrink wrapped.
  24. Bev, taking your question at face value.... 'ogun' = organ. Yep, I think Jim's talking hillbilly.
