  1. Don't think you'll find any 'ogun' on Ogun.
  2. I have a couple of early Ellington magazine partwork CDs where the remastering was done by JRT Davies - I think from good quality 78s. Excellent.
  3. I put horses' heads in people's beds from I Am The Mob - Catatonia
  4. And the Beach Boys Love You!
  5. Bunnahabhain - haven't tried that. I've been impressed by the Dalwhinnie 15 year old I was given this year. Happy Birthday.
  6. .... the Guide to Good English at the back says it's no longer normal to use the apos. in abbreviated forms, such as LPs, CDs, but is used in plurals where clarity is required, eg. dot your i's and cross your t's. No mention of s'. What fun.
  7. I could swear I was taught that " its' " was valid as a possessive pronoun when I was in school. My English teacher nearly got a heart attack every time someone used it's instead of its as a possessive pronoun. It's the apostrophe after the s that I thought used to be OK. I'm off to check my Oxford Concise again.
  8. I dunno, when you're pluralising an acronym maybe an apostrophe makes sense. Personally I use "LPs" rather than "LPS".
  9. That's a classic - the wrong spelling (fuschia) seems to be winning... If I remember aright the plant was discovered/developed by a bloke named Fuchs.
  10. I could swear I was taught that " its' " was valid as a possessive pronoun when I was in school.
  11. She's featured on the London Jazz Composers' Orchestra's Theoria, if you want to hear he in a 'free jazz piano concerto' setting. Very exciting.
  12. Ebay? Have you tried www.amazon.co.uk? www.cdwow.com (£6.99) - don't these UK sites ship to the US?
  13. Well I still miss that old BNBB colour scheme.
  14. Elvis thinks we're descended from the dinosaurs?
  15. Sorry, no. They only keep for one week, but don't know what time they cycle. I'm sure they'll tell if you email. Shrdlu's idea of a jazz show may be better met by Helen Mayhew's new show from midnight until 3am on Sunday morning - the publicity promises some classic names, though the first tune last week was George Benson, albeit quite jazzy Benson.
  16. This a recording of version of the album material by his current band, isn't it? Not the original tapes spliced together?
  17. Thanks Bev - I was thinking of the Brazilian Duos album. I like Walters' pieces for bringing attention to some of the more off-the beaten-track items.
  18. Thanks Bev - I've been looking at her CDs. Maria Schneider gets a nice write-up in the Guardian today: @
  19. Well, I'll admit the postage rate (to the UK) gave me pause as well, and I'm not comfortable about it, but the music is good... better than good, and I like even better than Allegresse, I think. It's going to take some shifting from my walkman for the next week or so. Luciana Souza is a new voice for me.
  20. Get a second opinion. You wouldn't hire a builder on the back of just one quote.
  21. You've got to buy a lot to find the gems that make life worth living - it's not having time to listen to those that's the real problem.
  22. Here are ebay pictures of a 1960's Garrard 401 (direct drive) just like mine: ding! Scroll down to see the platter off, showing the idler wheel and drive pully.
  23. Does Ray's still sell 2nd hand LPs and CDs now it's at Foyles?
