My questions centers around the "your recent call about a medical brace". If you didn't call anyone about a medical brace, why would you talk to these people? If you did call about a medical brace but it wasn't these scammers, why would you talk to these people? I just don't get why anyone would talk to someone who starts off the conversation with a lie. I have great sympathy for those going through life in pain. My uncle is going through this right now. I was glad to hear that this particular scam got busted. People who prey on those in distress are the worst kind of scum.

Do not hang up! This is not a sales call. We are calling in response to your recent inquiry about a medical brace. Really? Who the hell falls for these things?

Mosaics you’re still on the hunt for
Kevin Bresnahan replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I've gone back & forth on that Quebec/Hardee box many times over the years but I always come back to the fact that it just has too many alternate takes for my taste. One third of the set is alternate takes and they're programmed back to back, which I really hate. -
So true for many of the old Jazz greats. It was pretty common back then. My mother & father both quit cold turkey in 1964, when the US Surgeon General came out with his report that smoking caused cancer. They tell me that a lot of people quit at the same time.

Chewy needs to lay off the meds... or maybe he's actually Alex Jones and we're just finding out now. -
I finally received my copy from this UK seller and I am glad to hear this (again?). If it's live from the Scullers Jazz Club, it doesn't mention it anywhere in the artwork. No mention of the recording location at all.

What live music are you going to see tonight?

Seeing Regina Carter tonight at Scullers. I haven't seen her in a while. I wonder who she's bringing? -
If I remember correctly, overly long bass solos were a bit of a trademark for Pharoah's shows. Did he "play" the metal bowl then?

Although it's been a while since I've spun it, I do remember that when I got the SACD and compared the SACD layer to the CD layer, the SACD layer sounded much better to my ears so I gave away my old CD version. Has anyone heard the gold CD version? I am listening to my work copy now (Q0 VBR mp3 file) and I can definitely see the sound issues being described. The instruments do sound very isolated, which lends a rather unnatural, sterile sound to the whole thing. I don't think it sounds bad by any means though. The music is very good though. Joe plays great.

Get well soon Pharoah. I'm lucky that I got to see him several times. One of my favorite Sanders CDs:

I actually have the SACD version of this and I agree that it's a good one. It's one of Chesky's better dates in my opinion.

Do not miss The Cookers if they come through. Great band to see live. -
Are there any box bargains currently available?

$2.75 per disc. Wow. I might buy this just to fill out my collection. -

That time I saw Foghat in 1977.... ringggggggggg... and my right ear shut down for a few hours after... ringgggggggg,,,, and that time I saw the Allman Brothers Band and Dickie Betts was on fire... ringggggg... Tinnitus sucks. I always have ear plugs with me now, especially if there's a trumpeter. I'll never forget that time I forgot them and Jon Faddis blew my right ear out at the old Scullers when they had those wood paneled walls that reflected sound like mirrors. Ouch. I couldn't even stay in the room when he was playing. -

Wear ear protection. You can't undo ear damage. -
What vinyl are you spinning right now??
Kevin Bresnahan replied to wolff's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
I have this on CD and I agree that Bunky's playing is very nice on this date. -
Hank's last years... no matter how many ways I read about it, it still depresses the hell out of me. Addiction is a horrible thing. I have a friend that saw him at that Angry Squire gig. She got his autograph there. There is a bootleg recording out there. I had a cassette copy of it. Mobley was playing so badly, I got rid of it. I prefer to remember Hank in other recordings. Edit: you can find almost anything on YouTube. Damn - that piano sounds like shit.

2.5 Amps through your tweeters' voice coils is a lot of current. I would not be surprised to hear that both tweeters are damaged. The fact that both tweeters' fuses blew is a very bad sign. -
I've seen 6 and just missed a few others. 2. Benny Golson 7. Johnny Griffin 29. Hank Jones 31. Horace Silver 44. Sonny Rollins 50. Milt Hinton My biggest regret was missing Blakey on his last swing through Boston, which happened as I was just getting into Jazz. I also blew off Gerry Mulligan and Art Farmer a few times, figuring I'd see them the next time they came through. I had several chances to see Dizzy, but I just wasn't into his later recordings so I decided to skip. So may shows I skipped that I should have gone to...

I still have about 9 or 10 years myself, so I live vicariously through these retirees posts.

This is one of those few times when it is not advantageous to be posting under your real name as I am going through something very similar with my mother right now. I will say this - it is very very hard to get a parent to voluntarily leave their house. It seems to take a catastrophic event for them to "see the light" and realize that they can't do it alone any more. I wish you luck. It's tough.

Didn't Melba Liston have short hair like that?
