What vinyl are you spinning right now??
Kevin Bresnahan replied to wolff's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
My copy has turned out to be an actual Christmas Day present from my wife. Can't wait to hear it. At least, I hope it was in that box that came in the other day. -
True, but we do need to be a way more understanding that others might not appreciate it, nor do we need to celebrate it. How do you think a lot of the "Me Too" women feel about that song? It seems like almost every Christmas CD today has a version of "Baby It's Cold Outside". As I said earlier, "Say, what's in this drink," with what just happened to Bill Cosby, is probably upsetting to any woman who has really been roofied.

In general, I find that the LT pressings aren't the best for sonics. -
Record labels and rightsholders means what exactly on a bootlegged live recording? If it's an unauthorized recording, there is no record label and the rightsholder is the artist (if alive, estate if not), who likely doesn't even have the recording and seems to have no say in whether or not it should be released.

I own The Zombies' "Greatest Hits" CD, bought mainly because Hoffman remastered it and his board members were raving about it. It has 18 songs, only 4 that I had heard before and one of them, "She's Not There" was a much bigger hit for Santana than it was for them (and rocked more too). Granted, they were well before my time, but so is a lot of rock that I listen to. During their heyday (1965-68), they issued 2 whole albums and I didn't know anyone back in the day who owned either one. Jethro Tull has not one but two greatest hits CDs and another that combines the biggest of them ("Original Masters"). I knew all of these songs before I bought any of these albums/CDs. They also issued 11-12 LPs during their heyday, which, depending on how you look at it, likely spans a good 10-12 years. Personally, I'm not a big fan of anything past "Heavy Horses", but that's me. I also know a ton of people who have a majority of these albums. From my perspective, this is no contest. WTF stands.

I tried buying that when it came out and it was sold out everywhere i looked. I completely forgot about that.

They only started allowing fans to vote on the inductees in 2013, which is why bands like Yes, Roxy Music & The Cure have finally gotten the nod. They never would have gotten with Wenner in charge. But the problem is this: An artist or band has be "nominated" by the Hall to get their name on the ballot. A band that hasn't been nominated cannot get in. So the fix is still in. The Zombies over Tull... WTF? I have a dream of Jethro Tull getting in next year and at the awards ceremony, they modify the lyrics to one of their multiple hits to give the Hall and Wennr the middle finger. Sorta like a "Zanz Can't Dance" thing.

You know what upsets me the most here? That is took allowing the public to vote before they allowed any prog rockers in. This year, to continue their blockade on Jethro Tull, they didn't even allow them on the nominees list because they KNEW that they'd get in on a landslide, thus proving how fucking moronic Jann Wenner truly is. Janet Jackson & The Zombies over Jethro Tull and Todd Rundgren? Fucking stupid.

The title of this thread is "Bargain Audio Equipment", not "Cheap Audio Equipment" so with that in mind, if you happen to be looking for a "bargain" in the tube amplifier space and you want something decent, check out Quicksilver's Mid Mono amplifiers: http://quicksilveraudio.com/products/midi-mono/. Yes, I get that $1895 (that's for a pair, not each) is not cheap. I understand completely. But it is definitely on the more affordable side when it comes to higher-end tube amps.

Ronnie Cuber Kicks PERMANENT Ass w/Lionel Hampton!
Kevin Bresnahan replied to JSngry's topic in Artists
Ronnie kicks some ass on that one!! Love Ronnie. He has a new live recording coming out soon. I'm pretty sure that it's live from Scullers Jazz Club. I was at that show and Ronnie was cookin'. BTW, am I the only one who noticed "EXECUTIVE PRODUCER Sheldon Cooper"? In this clip's defense, it really is The Big Bang Theory for sure. -
Given the recent craziness around the limited edition Rendell-Carr Quintet LP boxset selling out on pre-sale orders, it would seem that Mosaic's future is better tied to LP reissues than CDs at this point. But since they got killed by poor LP sales in the past, maybe they're less willing to take that chance again?

All in stock at CD Japan for $23.79.

Who are you kidding? I just got lucky. That's all. Nothing proactive about it... oh, and just in case I'm not clear, "whining" is not what I was doing and you know it. You just won't admit it. You like Dusty so they can do no wrong. I pointed out that their ordering system is messed up but you disagree. We'll just agree to disagree here.
-
Supposedly I got one winging its way to me now. Maybe Dusty reads these posts? If anyone else wanted a copy, try ordering one from Dusty and then call the store so they pull it off their shelf. That's what I just did. Sorry - it's back to being out of stock already.

When you act like this, I really wonder why Jim has you as a moderator. You don't moderate at all. You preach. That's it - you read it from Jim. He's right and everyone else is wrong.

All of this stuff about it being "the way it always was" does not somehow make this the proper way to do it. This box is a limited edition that's in big demand right now and if they somehow manage to get in another couple of boxes, there is very little likelihood that I will get one. I'm just not that on top of my personal E-mail waiting for Dusty Groove E-mails with bated breath. And no, I am not giving Dusty Groove my work E-mail. A lot of people have bashed Mosaic for their perpetual backorder system but, hell, as screwed up as they are at times, at least they have a backorder system. And if you use a credit card, they don't even charge you until they get it in and it ships. Imagine that. How would everyone feel if over the years Mosaic Records used the system Dusty Groove is using? Say there's a box set running near the end of its run and you place an order but it's temporarily out of stock. Mosaic cancels your order and expects you to wait until it's back in stock, then re-order it. I bet you'd be pretty upset if you missed that notification and missed out on that box... the box that you already ordered.

I order stuff online all the time. Stuff I order is out of stock by the time they get to my order all the time. What happens almost everywhere, is that I get an E-mail that the item is backordered. Normally, I can either wait or E-mail them or visit the website to cancel that order. If your item is backordered for a certain period of time, most websites automatically cancel your order and notify you that the item is no longer available. This is a system in use at most online vendors. This is normal business operation for online vendors with variable inventory. Clearly Dusty Groove is not normal. I believe that it would be more like honoring the orders already placed and not giving equal treatment to someone who may have gotten on the wait list the day before. It should have nothing to do with a waiting list. If the "In stock" button was the "Send In Stock Notice" button (like it has now), we wouldn't be having this conversation. That's what the woman on the phone said too, "That's been the way they do things here from before I started working here". My response was, "Well, that doesn't make it right. It's bad business". I have this nasty part of my day that prevents me from waiting for Dusty's next "Back in stock" E-mail - it's called work. They can notify me but with the pent up demand this set is garnering, I doubt that I'll get it the next round.
-
Although Dusty Groove has the sobriquet here as "Da Bastids" due to their ability to separate us from our hard-earned money, they've earned that title recently (from me) for the screwed up way they handle "orders". I got Dusty's E-mail notice that this Rendell-Carr LP box was in stock on November 30th. I immediately went to the website, saw it listed as "In stock" and ordered it. The next morning, I got a notice that it was actually out of stock and that I'll be notified when it comes back in stock. Little did I know what that actually meant. Today I went to check on my order and I see no order listed. Nothing. No order. No cancellation. Nothing. So I call. Their answer? Well, it turns out that when you order something and it's not in stock, they cancel your order and put you back on the "Notify me when it's available" E-mail list. WTF? Seriously, WTF!!! So now when it comes back in, I have to hope I'm online and that I click the "Buy" button before all of the other people on the "Notify me" list?? I ordered this set, therefore, I should not have to order it again. When it comes in again, I should get the first one in the door shipped to me immediately. You have my credit card info. You have my mailing address. You have my ORDER. Seriously ticked off at these guys right now.
