I saw Drew perform several times over the years and he was always impressive. His fingers flew across those keys. So young.

What live music are you going to see tonight?

I would love to hear Renee Rosnes play, but she's probably never been to these shores :-( If it makes you feel any better, Renee doesn't come to Boston much anymore either and we're only a car drive away. -

Peter Leitch Exhilaration (Reservoir). Van Gelder pressing. Nice date that I've enjoyed on CD for years. Of course, I got it for Pepper Adams and he doesn't disappoint. -
I was lucky enough to catch Idris many times over the years and he was a blast to watch back there. RIP sir.

Has Sam Rivers' BN "Beatrice" appeared on any comps?
Kevin Bresnahan replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Discography
This is fairly cheap: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007ZIZ1Y/ref=dm_ws_ps_cdp?ie=UTF8&qid=1406719548&s=music&sr=8-2 I do agree with Lon that Joe's version is well worth getting. I prefer it to Sam's original. -

Joe Henderson - Page One (Music Matters/Blue Note). 33 rpm series. Another perfect-sounding, flat, dead silent Music Matters pressing. I like this one. -
Questions regarding Slide Hampton's "My Blues"
Kevin Bresnahan replied to Jim R's topic in Discography
It's funny you mention this because when I first heard "A Day In Copenhagen", I was trying to figure out this very same thing. I thought it was from a Blue Note date as well but after extensive searching, I never found it. -
I picked up the deluxe 2 CD set of Led Zeppelin II over the weekend and I have to disagree with you here. This new remaster sounds nowhere near as good as the old original CD that was issued way back when. It's overly loud and trebly - painfully so when cranked up (and Zep NEEDS to be cranked up!).

Isn't that LP from the series of LPs that were almost $80 each list price? Yes, it is. Not cheap, but original mono BN albums are very scarce and highly priced. ( Holland ) I buy these albums on Ebay for about $ 40/60 a piece. Does this reissue use the sound "fix" that Kevin Gray & Steve Hoffman originally created for the 45 rpm LP release? Supposedly, the mater tape has "Do not use - dropouts" on the box but they figured out that it wasn't dropouts but Sonny walking around the mic during the recording so they somehow managed to level it out. According to Hoffman, it was a tough tape to master. Since Kevin Gray cut these Japanese mono LPs, did he use the same technique over again or does this have those "dropout" sounds? -

Smallish Stereo Speakers with Decent Sound
Kevin Bresnahan replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Audio Talk
I still think the "B&W sound" is well suited to the acoustic bass. It seems to me that it's strength is in the mid-range. I've not found any of my B&W speakers to be overly bright. -

It's been a while since I've shopped for a sub but back when I did, there were typically stereo line level inputs and a mono RCA input. I see now that many subs offer stereo RCA inputs as well. Cool. -
I wouldn't mind picking up that Denon turntable for the right price. It's a nice one.

Greg sent me a zany email hoping I'd be at his gig with Phil Woods at Woonsocket, Rhode Island next month. I told him it was a bit beyond my range. Can't even make Swanage! Greg is taking Phil with him to little ol' Methuen, MA August 12th (http://www.jockosjazz.com/). Tomorrow night, Jocko has Harry Allen there. Harry puts on a great show. -

This is true, but you would have to pick up a Y adapter to sum the left & right channel for the sub. Also, make sure your sub has a built-in crossover because the tape out jacks output the full frequency spectrum. Do they even make powered subs without crossovers? I've personally never run across one. I don't know of one myself but that doesn't mean that they're not out there. -

Talk about a band with band luck... even though Tommy did make it to 65, that's still pretty young. RIP to The Ramones.

Nice date. It's too bad that this never made it onto CD. I've heard that Richie's family holds the rights to those 3 Concord dates and won't license them. -
I didn't know he was sick but it sounds like his suffering is over. The few times I saw him, he put on a great show. He's my mother's age... for some reason, I thought he was a lot younger than that.

Lucky Thompson - Body & Soul (Nessa). Nice date but I missed that side 2 has a large scratch across the entire side. My biggest complaint about vinyl. -
I've had those two Henderson CDs in cart a couple of times but... I just don't spin those CDs enough to worry about an incremental improvement in sound. I have played to the DoubleTime CDs since these SHM versions came out and they sound OK to me. Even if these are "night & day" better, I don't think I'd play them any more than I play these old discs. I've also had "Out To Lunch" in my cart a few times but that is not one of my favorite Blue Note dates either. Yeah, my Jazz musical taste are a bit on the conservative side, I know it and live with it.

I have held off this bandwagon for a while now. It sounds like I might want to try a few of these after all. Is there a list of 5 or 6 titles that are "must have"?
