  1. It has been reported that board member Claude Schlouch has died at age 83. Claude was well known for his discographies of Kenny Dorham and Bud Powell and he shared that knowledge with us regularly. I will miss seeing his posts. This is all I could find for a notice: https://www.libramemoria.com/defunts/schlouch-claude/07d95cda5782466190b8425667ff1a3c
  2. The value of this particular record from Chick's personal collection is 100% due to that personalized autograph. I'd love to own it myself.
  3. Hilarious personalized autograph from Miles.

Here's the Record Store Day release info: https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/18870 Tracklist SIDE A: 1. Introduction 2. Blue Bossa SIDE B: 3. Confirmation SIDE C 4. Bag's Groove 5. Memories of You SIDE D 6. Uptempo Blues 7. The Theme
  5. This is up on YouTube and it's pretty good. It has a typical "large music hall" audio sound, which is not my favorite live recording venue & with this band, I was somehow expecting more musically.
  6. 1956-61: All collected in this great Mosaic box.
  7. I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that someone who signs a super-max contract is tied to their team with a no trade clause for a year.
  8. That depends on how many owners have a financial stake in Draft Kings or FanDuel. In the NFL, these gambling websites rule the roost, with the KC Chiefs reaping the rewards of an NFL looking out for the bettors. The calls the Chiefs get on a weekly basis is nuts. If I were a gambling man, I would have trouble betting against the KC Refs... er, I mean Chiefs. It's funny being a Patriots fan all these years and reading all of the "The Patriots get all the calls" and then see it with the Chiefs. Whereas I saw tons of calls go against the Pats, a couple of iffy calls in their favor (no, Chris Jones did not rough the passer, but yes, Ford was lined up offsides) is chump change compared to what I see week after week with the Chiefs.
  9. Is Kirk still playing? He turns 88 in two weeks, so I would not be shocked to hear he has stopped playing.
  10. But does that make sense? Dončić would have gotten a super-max contract with the Mavs. He can't with any other team, including the Lakers. Also his current contract has him near max contract $$ and his player option for 2026 is $49 Million, which is more than a lot of the superstars around the league are getting on their max contracts. I think this is all on the Mavs management not wanting to pay Luka with a super-max contract. They basically screwed him. From: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10153150-nba-insider-luka-doncic-ineligible-for-345m-supermax-contract-after-lakers-trade "ESPN's Bobby Marks reported he is no longer eligible for the super-max extension this summer that would have paid him $345 million over five years." Given how this looks, I would think that this hurts the Mavs for future free agent signings. Who wants to play for a team that screws over their best player?
  11. I don't understand the Mavs on this one. Luka is 25 and Davis is 31. That alone is a reason to say no to this trade. Sure, the Mavs need help on defense, but you don't trade the leading scorer & MVP of the previous season for a shot blocker, even if that shot blocker can score & especially if that shot blocker is 31. After all, one guy can't cover all 5 players on the other team. Team defense wins games, not one player's defense. When the Mavs play the Celtics, are they going to put Davis on Tatum? I don't see that working out for them.
  12. Except that Edison's lightbulb was just an update of earlier attempts by other scientists. While I get that he was the one to perfect it, he didn't really invent it. https://www.livescience.com/43424-who-invented-the-light-bulb.html
  13. When New Jersey's "most famous invention" is shown to be air conditioners, you know this is really wrong. At Bell Labs in Murray Hill, NJ in 1947, physicists John Bardeen, Walter Brattain, and William Shockley invented the transistor, which revolutionized our world. It is one of the most famous inventions in the world nevermind the US.
  14. I wouldn't think that the vinyl version of Seagulls would sound as good as the CD. Side 1 has almost 30 minutes jammed onto it so you know the bass will have to be severely rolled off to fit those grooves. Side 2 is over 26 minutes as well, but that still might have some bass roll off compared to the CD.
  15. I wish I could find an affordable copy of this. I've been tracking these CDs for years and have only tripped over a few of them in the used bins.
  16. Just finished - Joanne Brackeen - Keyed In (Tappan Zee)) Now playing: Red Garland - Groovy (OJC/Prestige)
  17. Franco Ambrosetti - Close Encounter (Inner City). I bought this mostly because Bennie Wallace is on it. I tend to enjoy most anything Bennie played on. This one is just OK though. I think a lot of my indifference is due to the crappy bass sound. I don't what they did on the later 70's when recording the acoustic bass, but sometimes, it just sounds bad.
  18. Terry Gibbs/Sal Nistico/Nat Pierce/Charlie Andrus/Turk Van Lake/Jake Hanna (Time Records). I found a beat up copy of this in a used bin the other day and thought I'd give it a try. Nistico plays his ass off. Guitar/bass/drums rhythm is a bit too straitlaced for 1964 with the guitar playing in a strict swing style. Nat Pierce's organ playing is not doing anything for me at all.
  19. I was just looking through my LPs to see if I ever did grab one of those $1 Jordan LPs of "Night of the Mark VII" and alas, I never did pick that one up, probably because I had the CD. But I did get his Muse LP, "The Adventurer". I see these aren't going for much, so not all of his Muse LPs are going crazy. I wonder why that one is? Makes no sense to me.
  20. I really enjoy this CD. I play it fairly often.
  21. I used to find that Clifford Jordan LP in the $1 bin! I am not kidding.
  22. They have?? Man... not that long ago, they were all mostly under $10. I'm talking less than 5 years ago.
  23. Didn't Brubeck squash those from ever getting reissued?
  24. That looks like a bad use of noise reduction.
  25. The first two episodes pretty much tracked the first two over there. The first season was pretty good. It started to get weird at the end of Season 2 and Season 3 had a few "are you kidding me" moments. If the US version avoids that, it can be better than the original. FWIW, I think the US remake of "Ghosts" is better than the original UK version so remakes can work. BTW- both versions of Ghosts are well worth watching.
