I wouldn't think that the vinyl version of Seagulls would sound as good as the CD. Side 1 has almost 30 minutes jammed onto it so you know the bass will have to be severely rolled off to fit those grooves. Side 2 is over 26 minutes as well, but that still might have some bass roll off compared to the CD.

I wish I could find an affordable copy of this. I've been tracking these CDs for years and have only tripped over a few of them in the used bins.

Franco Ambrosetti - Close Encounter (Inner City). I bought this mostly because Bennie Wallace is on it. I tend to enjoy most anything Bennie played on. This one is just OK though. I think a lot of my indifference is due to the crappy bass sound. I don't what they did on the later 70's when recording the acoustic bass, but sometimes, it just sounds bad. -

Terry Gibbs/Sal Nistico/Nat Pierce/Charlie Andrus/Turk Van Lake/Jake Hanna (Time Records). I found a beat up copy of this in a used bin the other day and thought I'd give it a try. Nistico plays his ass off. Guitar/bass/drums rhythm is a bit too straitlaced for 1964 with the guitar playing in a strict swing style. Nat Pierce's organ playing is not doing anything for me at all. -
Unissued Music You Would Like To See Released
Kevin Bresnahan replied to Ken Dryden's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I was just looking through my LPs to see if I ever did grab one of those $1 Jordan LPs of "Night of the Mark VII" and alas, I never did pick that one up, probably because I had the CD. But I did get his Muse LP, "The Adventurer". I see these aren't going for much, so not all of his Muse LPs are going crazy. I wonder why that one is? Makes no sense to me. -
I really enjoy this CD. I play it fairly often.

I used to find that Clifford Jordan LP in the $1 bin! I am not kidding. -

They have?? Man... not that long ago, they were all mostly under $10. I'm talking less than 5 years ago. -

Didn't Brubeck squash those from ever getting reissued? -
That looks like a bad use of noise reduction.

The first two episodes pretty much tracked the first two over there. The first season was pretty good. It started to get weird at the end of Season 2 and Season 3 had a few "are you kidding me" moments. If the US version avoids that, it can be better than the original. FWIW, I think the US remake of "Ghosts" is better than the original UK version so remakes can work. BTW- both versions of Ghosts are well worth watching.

This has potential to be a good show (Ha!) but if it follows the storylines of the original Belgian show, it will add some iffy sidebars that I didn't think worked very well. In later seasons of the Belgian show, Morgaine did some really stupid things that I don't think someone as brilliant as she's supposed to be would actually do.

As I said in my comment, I agree that original prints should always be left in their original state. However, once digitized, it's fairly easy these days to fix minor problems like those folds and bring out more detail with some judicious use of contrast. To be honest, it looks like whoever scanned this originally didn't do a great job with the contrast settings, so at least in this instance, some tweaking would almost be welcomed. I don't really understand the thinking about this either. We have thousands of pages of posts here on the forums discussing which hard copy of musical performances sound the best. None of us want to play scratched up 78s to listen our music. This is the same thing. Just like judicious use of EQ, noise reduction, de-clickers etc. improves the sound of the music we play, some cleaning up of original photographs can do wonders to improve our enjoyment of the photo.

Another fire broke out in the LA area yesterday and burned through over 10,000 acres in less than 14 hours. They're calling it the Hughes Fire.

I find it weird to see a rare old photo like this with all of those imperfections. Those things are fairly easy to fix these days, often through the use of tools that will do it almost automatic. I get that the original should stay original, but there's no need to keep it that way in the digital domain.

I got lambasted by Michael Fremer, LOL
Kevin Bresnahan replied to CJ Shearn's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Fremer's panties are still in a bunch over all of the rave reviews of MoFi vinyl cuts that he gave, usually with some sort of "analog is king" vibe, only to find out that nearly all of them were cut using high resolution digital files. His credibility is shot so it shouldn't be unexpected that he's going to lash out when questioned after that fiasco. -
Sometimes I think that whoever owns the LRC label these days keeps changing the covers to try to fake out buyers into re-buying titles they already have.

I'm not a business, so I don't know if Venmo charges businesses 3% if they receive a payment, but in every Venmo transaction I've made, either sending or receiving, the money sent was the money received. I have never been dinged 3% for any Venmo money sent to me. My landscaper accepts Venmo and I've paid him that way several times. I doubt he'd accept it if he didn't get paid what I was supposed to pay. If I owe him $100, why would he accept a Venmo payment from me for $97? Maybe it's because I've ever had to use my credit card for payments? As for PayPal, I have always had payments get reduced by their fees. It's why I increase my asking price a bit for stuff I sell on-line. I know I'm going to get dinged, so I build that into my asking price. I don't use "Friends and family" for CD/LP sales on-line because you lose payment protection when you go that route & I'm pretty sure that in cases where you use your credit card for a "Friends and Family" payment, they charge you the 3% too.
-
I've never had Venmo take any extra money on any of my transactions. PayPal, yes - Venmo, no. Also, for PayPal, when you send someone money to pay for something, they get dinged for the 3%. You don't pay 3% more.

I started reading this before Christmas but for some reason, it's not doing it for me. I read in bed prior to going to sleep and this book doesn't keep me awake for long. I'm sure I'll finish it eventually but the early parts describing his family roots in deep detail, is probably really interesting for Sonny but not for me.

This is terrible news. So many lost so much. I keep reading all the horror stories of families who lost everything except the clothes on their back. BTW, regarding fund raising efforts, I saw a news report this morning that said that all of these Go Fund Me events have resulted in a statement from FEMA that basically says that any monies raised by a Go Fund Me page will offset any aid from FEMA. I have no idea how that affects John Clayton's Go Fund Me.

You can also ask for an edit or deletion of a post after 60 minutes by using the "report a post" link. If it's a valid request, we can fix it for you. We can also delete an old "for sale" thread in the Classifieds if that's what you wish. However, it would be best to wait until after all of the sales from that thread are fully completed. Personally, I only delete an old sale thread if some of the items haven't sold and I want to move them to a new thread. I don't want items listed in two separate "For Sale" threads. Deleting topics not related to sales is not something that will be done without an OK from the board owner (Jim A).

Sonny Rollins : Paris 1965/Copenhagen 1968
Kevin Bresnahan replied to bluesbro's topic in Discography
I am not big on resurrecting dead threads, but this date has some great music. Has it ever been released on LP or CD legitimately yet?
