  1. Weird to think that ticket stubs are going to be like payphones to future generations.
  2. So far, no, only downloads. $6.99 to download a ~22 minute long 10" LP of cool Christmas music at Amazon is a bit steep though.
  3. Charlie Byrd - The Charlie Byrd Christmas Album (Concord)
  4. That's not the one I used to have though.
  5. I told Jim he should release these tunes on LP to try and take advantage of the vinyl surge but that was two or three years ago. There are signs that LP sales may have already peaked.
  6. My wife and I enjoyed the beginning but felt it got too disjointed by the end.
  7. I have not been able to find the artwork Jim A originally posted for these tunes but I did find another CD backer from somewhere...
  8. I finished watching this today and it was very well done. I chuckled quite a few times with the "descriptions" of a lot of the people they interviewed. Like "Dave Holland - Miles Davis bassist 1969-1970".
  9. Harry Allen - Christmas in Swingtime (Koch Jazz). Unusual for Harry in that he plays these time-worn Christmas classics with an organ trio (Larry Goldings, Peter Bernstein & Jake Hanna) instead of his usual Piano/Bass/Drums accompaniment. I so wish I could have made it down to NYC on Black Friday to see Harry play in trio at Mezzrow. I'll have to watch the schedules to see if he is planning that again in the future.
  10. What's old is new I guess. They remind me of the glasses my late aunt wore back in the 70s. She also had hoop earrings that were about the same size as the glass frame.
  11. I saw Lupri a few times when he was going to Berklee and bought "Shadow of the Vibe" & "Window Up Window Down" from him back in the day.
  12. Actually, an older thread still has the links and includes a video of Jim A groovin' some Xmas in 2023:
  13. All 7 are available. With a little digging, I found them: A Child Is Born Christmas Time Is Here O Christmas Tree Funky Drummer Boy God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree The Christmas Song The order I have from the original releases was: O Christmas Tree God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen Funky Drummer Boy A Child Is Born Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree The Christmas Song Christmas Time Is Here
  14. Sonny is very much retired. He no longer plays. He made it clear in one of his last interviews.
  15. Jim A gave me the ability to approve these registrations. I recently retired so I told him I have some spare time to help out with stuff like this. I don't know if it's permanent or if he just needed some temporary help. FWIW, I don't think it's worthwhile for anyone to go through over a thousand account applications to determine if they are a spam bot or a real person. I suppose I could compare the IP addresses to see if some of them come from the same block of IPs but knowing what I know, those can be spoofed. There are some applicants with somewhat real names with E-mail addresses that seem to match the chosen username. I am thinking maybe I should E-mail some of these to see if it's a real person but a lot more of them seem like businesses, with business E-mails. I figure those are companies that want to come here and sell their shit.
  16. Jim talked about that but he never got around to implementing it.
  17. I wonder if Bandcamp Friday works when the Bandcamp listing is a record label. For instance, if I buy an LP or CD from the Smoke Sessions page, do the artists get more today or does the Smoke Sessions label get more?
  18. It turns out that spammers apply for access here quite often. There are over a thousand accounts awaiting approval. It's really hard to know which applicants are real people and which ones are spam-bots. This is the only reason you didn't get approved. Again, if current posters know someone who wants access here, contact me and I'll see if I can take care of it.
  19. Pretty much... We'll see when they all realize that he's been retired for about 4 years now.
  20. Larry hasn't been here since June. I hope he's OK but I do wonder if he'll be back after what happened during his last absence from the board. But no matter, who is supposed to have posted it, I don't remember anything about a Jazz artist going into modeling. Which jazz artist?
  21. I actually prefer the tunes on Vol. 3 but all of them are excellent.
  22. I saw that second comment and wondered what the heck he was talking about. I don't remember any conversations about Jazz artists taking to modeling to supplement their income. Does anyone remember this?
  23. Someone on the Steve Hoffman forums mentioned that he had been trying to register here with no luck. Do any current members know of others trying to register here? If so, PM me their username/e-mail and I'll see if I can get them activated.
