FS - Ornette Coleman Beauty is a Rare Thing box

I have a copy of this for sale. The outer box is missing the top part, and the lower part has a 2" dent/tear in it. However, the contents, including the booklet, are in excellent condition. $45 gets it, including media mail within the US. I am willing to send to other countries for actual cost. I can take payment by Paypal, or you can mail me a check. Please respond by pm if you are interested. -
If anyone can point me to a copy, or has one they'd like to sell, I'd appreciate it. Thanks Pete

PREX can still be an excellent place to find jazz vinyl. I go there 5 or 6 times a year, immediately head to the new arrivals vinyl bins. One visit, for example, somebody had evidently turned in an Ellington collection and I ended up buying 20+ "gray labels" at $3 apiece average. Last visit was a remarkable group of Japanese imports, priced in the $10 range. I bought a group of VSOP reissues on that visit, average $4 each, plus a bunch of Boris Rose issues average $3 each. From what I overheard, word had gotten around the local circle and guys were all coming in to check it out. Also, they sometimes stock Mosaic sets at excellent prices - I picked up the Quincy Jones box (Euro edition) for $50 awhile back. I never leave there empty handed.

This box needs a new home. Cds and booklet are nm, box comes with rust intact . $250 postage included in the US. Other countries I'll split the cost. Paypal okay, or a check. PM if interested. Thanks Pete

I need some more Lionel Hampton
Pete B replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in Recommendations
I'd vote for Lionel Hampton Complete Jazztone Recordings. Superior playing by all involved, including the rarely recorded Oscar Dennard on piano and some of Lucky Thompson's finest playing, imo. -
Jackie McLean fan? Too good to be true bargain?

Trying to find copies of the Masters of Jazz Jimmie Luncefords, volume 3 and volume 5 (I've found the rest). I've looked for these 2 discs for some years without success. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Pete

You can ascribe whatever meaning you want. I'm sure his many fans would say he was incapable of producing an inferior recording. I made a rather arbitrary choice and sold the quartet recording which is perhaps more typical for Tubbs. Pete, you'll find on further reflection that this is one of Allen's many posts which don't warrant a serious response! BTW, will you be contributing $1 to Margaret Thatcher for each Tubby Hayes CD sold? Oh, of course I left my sense of humor at home today when I came to work. No contributions to Maggie at this time - I don't want to have to move my thread to the Politics forum.

I've got to make some space so I'm thinning the shelves a bit. Everything here is VG+ or better unless noted. Feel free to ask questions about individual titles. Everything is $3 per title unless noted. deduct 10% if you are considering buying 6 or more titles (excluding those less than $3). Postage in the US will be a flat $3.00 up to 5 discs, $4.00 for more than that (even if you buy them all - go ahead, make my day). Postage to other countries will be actual cost. Many thanks for your greetings! It has been a happy one. Pete

Larry, please accept my condolences. This sounds like a classic symptom of depression - I've been there many times over the past 12 or 15 years, the worst period being after the unexpected death of my brother. I urge you to avail yourself of grief counseling, which I found to be of immense value. I've also found that the proper medication has been of great help in dealing with my long-term clinical depression.

I driver over to Princeton to visit a friend every 6 or 8 weeks and always drop by the PREX. I'm amazed at how quickly their jazz stock turns over. I've learned that if you think you might want something buy it now because chances are it won't be there next visit. I've walked out with stacks of vinyl, or with only one or two cds or lps, but never empty handed. I remember one afternoon walking out with over 20 Ellington lps, mostly oddball labels, for $2-$4 apiece.
