  2. That will be wonderful. Since I received the small groups Mosaic I've been increasingly frustrated with the sound quality of my old French Columbia lps. An update by Mosaic will be most welcome!
  3. I've bought from them using their website. No complaints.
  4. This info from "Jazz Records the Specialist Labels" by Ralph Laing and Chris Sheridan - Chewy, you need to find a copy of this book - it's not expensive: Count Basie Octet: Clark Terry, Buck Clayton tp, Marshall Royal cl, as, Wardell Gray ts, Count Basie p, Freddie Green g, Jimmy Lewis b, Gus Johnson d. 5. Mosaic recently upped their price for booklets. They now charge $20.
  6. Bob is still with us - he lives in Carlisle PA. His story is here
  7. Side One is from 7/28/1956 Fairfield CT - Connecticut Jazz Festival. Same show as the IAJRC issue but this is additional material. Side Two: Haupe & Flirtibird are from 6/27/1959 Tamiment PA. Balance of Side 2 is from Carroltown PA, June 1957. Same show as "All Star Road Band" on Dr Jazz, but some material is not duplicated. This info is from the "New DESOR".
  8. Duke Ellington - Chicago to Detroit 1940 - Jazz Moderne I missed a copy from a Cadence list. I've never seen another copy on offer. Hampton, Lionel The Fabulous Lionel Hampton Jazztone J-723 ep I was too late on a set sale list from a dealer in Switzerland.
  9. Agreed, Lon. What I really, really, really want is the proposed Cotton Club set.
  10. Lon, I had a similar reaction. I'd rather see them issue the long-projected Cotton Club set, or continue the DETS series. However, there is a wealth of 40's material, and a lot of it not issued, and potentially this could be really nice. The inclusion of the already issued Fargo material is not a good sign, though.

    Dick Wetmore RIP

The Bethlehem 10" lp is a gem. I once asked Bob Zieff if he would share the head-chart for "Sad Walk", which a friend of mine had transcribed. He told me all the harmony was "through-written" and there was no chart for it. I guess you would describe it as a sort of chamber music approach to jazz writing. Very beautiful and challenging music. I have an extra copy of the Japanese reissue, mint except for 1 small unfortunate scratch, if anybody wants to buy it or trade for it send me a pm. It's a tough title to find. Pete
  12. My good wife made sure the new Ellington Mosaic was under our tree!
  13. These are not so easy to find in my experience. It took me about a year of fairly intensive searching to locate vol 1-4. Being a longtime Pettiford fan I've had vol 6 for years. I've never seen a copy of vol 5, but I think it has been reissued on cd.

    Uptown. . .

This from the latest DEMS Bulletin: There has been a French CD with the original "A Drum Is a Woman" album: Columbia CD COL 471320-2. But as is the case with so many of these nice re-releases, it is difficult to find. We are all waiting for a more important re-release with a lot of "fresh" music. Phil Schaap finished his work for Sony for a double CD, but the market seems to have been judged too small for a release. What a pity!
  15. Not as good IMO. I think that "Dana Point" is quite good fidelity. The Xanadu is less so. Still, very listenable, excellent performances, well worth tracking down. To my knowledge, it has not been issued on cd.
  16. It exists - I have a copy. It's a good one - I like hearing WM with a bebop pianist - HH really pushes him. Recording quality is not great but certainly listenable. I shouldn't think that this lp would be that hard to find.
  17. I have heard that the Japanese vinyls with the alternates were issued without Mulligan's permission. Perhaps that is why Verve never issued them. More likely it's just another example of their neglect of their back catalog.
  18. I think the masters of the Emarcy things have been issued on Lonehill as listed at Dusty Groove A 3-disc set on Fresh Sounds looks to have at least some of the alternates on it, listed at World's Records The alternates are worth looking for - I have them on Japanese vinyls (Mainstream of Jazz Vol 2 and 3).
  19. Some jazz vinyls for sale. All are VG+ unless as noted. Covers show normal shelfwear - I've tried to flag any obvious flaws. Flat $2.00 for media mail within the States, actual cost to other countries. Paypal accepted. Send a PM if anything strikes your fancy. 20. I bought a used Nitty Gritty machine which unknown to me had a defective intake which left some tiny scratches 360 degrees on a couple of places on the lp surface. Ruined a half dozen vinyls, nothing valuable but one, my prized Japanese Complete John Williams on Emarcy, took years to replace. I wouldn't have called it a rare record but it seems to be difficult to find. Finally a very good friend gave me his copy. I've since repaired the Nitty Gritty and it's served me well.
  21. I have the following for sale. All prices include shipping within the U.S. I will ship to other countries at cost. Everything in very good condition. Duke Ellington

The other volume was nr. 14 which included two unauthorized tracks of a broadcast with John Scott Trotter and his Orchestra that featured Duke and Jimmy Blanton!
  23. I'm really looking forward to receiving my copy of this, all the more after the comments above. I see that Ms Winters has a new cd schedule for December release in Japan, also with Lou Levy, entitled "Speak Low". Now if only I could find a copy of "Pinky" on the Norma label!
  24. This may be of interest to some of you. I've looked for a copy of this for a long time without success. I noticed on www.amazon.fr yesterday that it has been reissued for a limited time, release date of Oct 30 - see Happy Madness at Amazon the story on this one, from www.pinkywinters.com: Released in France only, this was also slated for US issue when it was caught up in the change of regimes at Verve after the label was absorbed by the conglomerate, Universal Music. This CD achieved the distinction of being The World Class recording in print the shortest amount of time. An instant collector's item. I don't know the story behind the reissue, but it's a nice opportunity to snag what was a tough title.
  25. Last year I bought a Goldring GR1.2 from Audio Advisors and I've been very happy with it.
